If you did mix over Christmas

Is there anyone now unwell as a result? The number of cases today is daunting and deaths are over 1000, the timeline would correspond with it being the Christmas period it would have been caught. I was thinking about this and wondering if anyone is aware that someone they saw over christmas is now unwell as a result?

No one is ill.

Everleigh2021 · 06/01/2021 16:46

they can of course claim ssp but what if it turns into long covid or bigger problems. dont think its fair at all

Jenasaurus · 06/01/2021 16:47

@Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady

Has it been long enough for today's deaths to be caused by Xmas mixing though?

I thought we wouldn't see that until the end of the month.

This is more in line with when cases started to rise early December in London and the South East.

I was looking mainly at the cases rather than the deaths, The deaths would likely rise in another 2/3 weeks as a result of christmas mixing if that is the case.

Yes we mixed, we isolated except walks for 2 weeks prior though and no one has so much sneezed once since!

Pleased to hear, sounds like your isolation paid off :)

No. Had my mother over as she was on her own after working an early shift and we are all fine. She works in a care home and is tested regularly and she's had her first Covid vaccine.

Huugi · 06/01/2021 16:51

On our local news the other day they reported from a frozen pond talking to skaters and families having a day out I thought DH was going to explode with rage we have been in a lockdown since boxing day 🙄

OP is asking about people who got together for Christmas not people exercising outdoors which is allowed even in lockdown Confused.

Glad your mum has had her vaccine, she does a very valuable job and is at risk so very pleased to hear she will have some protection and that you both kept safe and well over Christmas.

@Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady

We took childhood out of school on the 11th and were very careful in the lead up. 3 families at my parents Xmas day. None of us have had it yet
I thought Christmas mixing was with one other family only?
DrunkenKoala · 06/01/2021 16:54

No we didn’t mix. We were put into tier 4 before Christmas, and our street was really quiet on Christmas Day. I’m in Kent and I know a lot of people who had it in the run up to Christmas (all seem fine now).

Affor · 06/01/2021 16:54

Hasn't it been too long for cases? Most people get symptoms on day 5 so should be tested by days 5-10 which has passed.

Jenasaurus · 06/01/2021 16:54

I felt very sorry for some of my locals last night. There was a major gas leak and 700 of the residents had to vacate their homes at 1.30am and be put in temporary accommodation. It was freezing cold last night and with the pandemic it must have been so hard for them to feel safe when huddled outside awaiting to be taken to safety. (it was on ITV news this morning) We live close by and residents were all told to close their windows.

Went to my parents. We're all fine thus far. We were careful to limit exposure to other prior to going to see them as my Dad is vulnerable. Glad we did go as we've now made the decision not to see them until he's vaccinated, unless there are any drastic changes for the better in rates, which seems unlikely, and which means it could be months before we get to see them again.

I hadnt realised that, I though most get symptoms on day 8 and then I would think they would get tested either the following day or possibly day 10 which would be this week. Just a thought, probably wrong though.

I’m sneezing like fuck, but I have high ige levels so it’s probably an allergy to something 🤧

I agree, too early for this to be as a result of Christmas. Remember last time deaths peaked in April but we'd locked down in March.
toastfiend · 06/01/2021 16:56

We're all in the same county, which was in Tier 2 over Christmas, too. Don't know if that's relevant or not, really at this stage. 🤷‍♀️

Jenasaurus · 06/01/2021 16:57

25th Dec - (10 days later is 4th Jan) so not far off

My betting is that > 95% of families who mixed over Xmas did not transmit anything (covid or other).

I didn't mix but some other household members did -- all fine.

PoppiesinOctober · 06/01/2021 16:57

Nope, none of them.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 06/01/2021 16:58

No. We mixed within the rules. No one is ill.

My mother is in a support bubble with us (so same household).
My daughter came home from university for the holidays and had a (negative) lateral flow test before she travelled.
My other two children who don’t live at home came over for the day, we didn’t hug etc and hand washing was observed. I hated not hugging my kids on Christmas Day Sad.

Lottie4 · 06/01/2021 16:58

Auntie and Uncle spent Xmas and Boxing Days with their DS and his wife. DS and wife both tested positive just after Xmas, Auntie and Uncle both started coughing New Years Day tested positive. Luckily they feel like they've got a bad cold, but worried as Uncle is high risk.

FamilyOfAliens · 06/01/2021 16:59

My betting is that > 95% of families who mixed over Xmas did not transmit anything (covid or other).

What is the basis for this assertion?

IndieRo · 06/01/2021 16:59

We didn't see anybody. BIL (who is an arsehole) visited everyone and got a positive for Covid yesterday. Apparantly he would decide whether he would see people or not as its his decision.
