If you did mix over Christmas

Is there anyone now unwell as a result? The number of cases today is daunting and deaths are over 1000, the timeline would correspond with it being the Christmas period it would have been caught. I was thinking about this and wondering if anyone is aware that someone they saw over christmas is now unwell as a result?

No.
Didn't visit mum (seven hours drive away so not possible to do in one day).
Kids drove 7 hour round trip to spend Christmas Day with us.
Saw no one else.
Back at school tomorrow.

Glad all are well ketosavedmylife - looking at your username I may need to talk to you about keto as I have gained rather a lot of weight over christmas (I compensated for not seeing my loved ones by eating for them as well as me!)

Went to my parents we are all fine no illness.

pissoffwhydontyou · 06/01/2021 16:29

No didn't mix over Christmas , but just having driven home ( lawfully from work ) 20 mins ago you wouldn't think we were in lock down far too many people about, I don't consider standing chatting on the pavement as daily exercise
No wonder we are in this mess , idiot people making any excuse as to why they are not complying

Mindymomo · 06/01/2021 16:30

Had my brother round, he’s in our bubble as he is single and lives alone, all fine at the moment, as far as we know.

Everleigh2021 · 06/01/2021 16:30

2 off with it at work now....first 2 throughout this whole shitshow as well!

cadburyegg · 06/01/2021 16:31

I saw 1 other household as was permitted on the day. No one is ill.

The number of deaths is extremely concerning considering the ones who contracted the virus as a result of household mixing on christmas day, will probably not even be severely ill yet

Mrsjayy · 06/01/2021 16:33

On our local news the other day they reported from a frozen pond talking to skaters and families having a day out I thought DH was going to explode with rage we have been in a lockdown since boxing day 🙄

Sorry to hear that. Do you know where these 2 caught it? Trying to work out if its directly linked to christmas mixing or not.

My DS is having to work at the moment as he works in banks all over London ant the South East, he is an engineer that ensures the cash machines are working (internal not external ones) and he said out of 1 people in his depot where he collects the parts, 7 of them have got it. Thats so scary, he has been told to wash his hands (which he already does) and he has to go back tomorrow to collect more parts.

My Mum who is in our bubble came round, and my in laws came. None of us have been ill as yet.

Msgiggles30 · 06/01/2021 16:37

No and none of my friends or colleagues who mixed were ill either. I feel people were careful beforehand to feel more comfortable mixing though so didn't have as much chance to catch the virus to spread it anyway.

MooChops89 · 06/01/2021 16:39

We didn't see anyone but a colleague's family all got together (she didn't, she was working) and 9 of them have tested positive (lots of them in the bubbles, I don't know ins and outs but I think it was within guidelines!)

This is really reassuring to hear. I hope that the majority of people who mixed were careful and wouldnt be infected.

No positives following a one day get together with one other family group. No other mixing over the holidays. I can’t do my job from home so have been working in my office throughout 2020 and back at work now. Avoided COVID so far.

Everleigh2021 · 06/01/2021 16:39

yes, they both stayed over at respective boyfriend/girlfriends for christmas....not sure which days. They dont live together so, question is should work pay them? our company has paid fully for isolation if needed

this pair have taken the piss and put others at risk..theres nearly 100 colleagues in our store. of course, theres no proof. and thats a problem

This is what I feared and would explan the massive spike today. I imagine the New Year gatherings that went ahead will cause another spike in cases in a weeks time :(

We mixed with my parents. No ones ill. That includes a pre-schooler who attends nursery and a reception age child.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 06/01/2021 16:41

We took childhood out of school on the 11th and were very careful in the lead up. 3 families at my parents Xmas day. None of us have had it yet

LindaEllen · 06/01/2021 16:42

I'm not sure people would admit to illness through Christmas mixing anyway.

Just because they couldn't doesn't mean they should have - and it brings home reality when your actions have real consequences rather than just abstract, possible consequences.

Thats a good point and to be honest they shouldnt be paid if they broke the rules at christmas which has resulted in having to isolate and stay off work. There choices have impacted their colleagues as well as their health. They chose to take the risk, it would be cheeky to expect their employer to have to pay for their error of judgement.

No.
However, in the same period, one friend was hospitalised with a non-Covid illness and one friend died of a non-Covid illness. There is more to the world than Covid.

XenoBitch · 06/01/2021 16:44

Stayed a few days at my parents (they are my bubble), and went to visit my brother as it was also his birthday. No illness here.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 06/01/2021 16:44

Has it been long enough for today's deaths to be caused by Xmas mixing though?

I thought we wouldn't see that until the end of the month.

This is more in line with when cases started to rise early December in London and the South East.

Jenasaurus · 06/01/2021 16:45

I agree and the point I was trying to cover, if people realise that a direct result of something they did that they were advised not to (mixing at christmas) caused a loved one or themself to become infected and unwell then it will be a stong message to learn from.
