If you did mix over Christmas

Is there anyone now unwell as a result? The number of cases today is daunting and deaths are over 1000, the timeline would correspond with it being the Christmas period it would have been caught. I was thinking about this and wondering if anyone is aware that someone they saw over christmas is now unwell as a result?

I know two separate sets of people who came away with it after Christmas day.

PoppiesinOctober · 06/01/2021 16:59

I thought Christmas mixing was with one other family only?

No. The three households rule was still in place, but just for Christmas day only instead.

Echobelly · 06/01/2021 16:59

I don't think that many people have seen another (not among my London mates) - a few friends in the weeks before were planning on cautious visits to see one other family household, but when things were obviously getting really awful the week before almost all of them seemed to cancel.

DH and I saw our parents in their front or back garden (reachable without going indoors) but it was only for 10-20 minutes because it was so cold and we were more like 3-4m apart, so I'd be quite alarmed if anyone could catch anything on that basis!

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 06/01/2021 16:59

No but just see DS, we were tier 3 then

Porcupineintherough · 06/01/2021 16:59

We pulled the kids out of school a week early so we could all self isolate for 14 days ready to see grandparents - then ds1 came down with COVID. He was so mild we didnt even realise what it was but luckily he gave it to me and I developed a cough so disaster was averted. But I can see how it could easily happen.

UghNotThisAgain36 · 06/01/2021 17:00

Two cases at my mums work from Christmas (huge supermarket) have resulted in over 100 people being off work isolating due to Test & Trace.

We saw noone over Christmas. We've basically been in isolation since 18th December (bar DP who lives alone & in our bubble and DC have been to their Dads as permitted). No illness here whatsoever.

annevonkleve · 06/01/2021 17:02

I saw my mum for two days. But she has had covid anyway. We are all well and symptom-less.

Belladonna12 · 06/01/2021 17:03

I know a couple of people who mixed within the rules and now have Covid. One person "quarantined" beforehand but visited the shops. Considering about one in 50 now have it I'm sure a lot got infected by mixing at Christmas.

DoubleTweenQueen · 06/01/2021 17:04

No. Stayed on our lonesome. Very dull. Family - just mine & DHs siblings these days - are over two hours away, and will have been bubbling with in-law’s elderly rellies, so not worth it.

Saving up expense and energy for hopefully seeing each other in the summer.

AlexaShutUp · 06/01/2021 17:04

I'm not sure people would admit to illness through Christmas mixing anyway

This. I don't believe that many who chose to mix at Christmas will admit that they made the wrong decision...even if they know it deep down

User158340 · 06/01/2021 17:06

@Mrsjayy

Went to my parents we are all fine no illness.
Same on 25th, but we all effectively quarantined for weeks before. How many were in the shops, pubs, restaurants, schools, workplaces in the 7-10 days before 25th before mixing over Christmas?
HmmSureJan · 06/01/2021 17:06

I went to my parents early in December as couldn't face how bad traffic would be over actual Christmas. No one got ill thankfully.

AdditionalCharacter · 06/01/2021 17:07

My family mixed with my sisters family. Doors and windows open, we kept our distance, no Christmas hugs or kisses. We are all fine.

I am CEV and my sister did all she could do limit contact with others with the run up to it, as did my family.

GameSetMatch · 06/01/2021 17:07

We went to my parents, so far everyone is covid free, although I’ve got shingles which apparently MAY be a sign I’ve had silent covid but I’m doubtful.

I always said if Boris was too much of a shithouse to 'cancel Christmas' then the needed to be a firm message to isolate for a week or two beforehand.

Instead, due to Boris's late action we had the scene of packed out train stations and transport 5-6 days before Christmas Day due to the late announcement.

Going to shops is not isolating and the shops were still mad busy.

NerrSnerr · 06/01/2021 17:08

We went to see my mum and then saw my dad and in-laws outdoors (separately and within the rules of the tiers at those times). No symptoms for anyone as yet which I'm relieved about.

Lovelydovey · 06/01/2021 17:08

My parents passed Covid to my brother - they started displaying symptoms on Christmas Day. To be honest they were worried more about the risk the other way round so my brother isolated for 10 days prior, but turns out dad picked it up at a hospital appointment (he’s in critical care now being treated for Covid) - my mum and brother haven’t needed treatment.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 06/01/2021 17:09

They'll never admit it.

I'd like to know if people are still having essential playdates. Mn was full of them in November/Dec.

Valkadin · 06/01/2021 17:09

We mixed with just DS GF for a few hours Christmas day evening and her family mixed with no one. We are all ok. I know my friend mixed within permitted rules and one of the other families has tested positive so him and his GF have been in isolation for a few days now.

sleepyhead · 06/01/2021 17:09

No. Spent Christmas Day with parents & brother/SIL & children.

We were all extra careful in the period between then and now in case we had unknowingly shared an infection, but it appears that we were all clear.

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 06/01/2021 17:09

Occupants of 4 houses in my street (that I know of) have tested positive.

In one case, they think it's very likely to be from a family member from another tier (primary school children coming for sleepover), their next door neighbours might have got it from them as they went in for a drink.

I don't know about the others, but they did see family over Christmas.

I also know of a family who tested positive after outings at the cinema, lord knows how many they infected, if any.

dingoesatemybaby · 06/01/2021 17:09

We mixed (within the T3 rules). Nobody has covid

Themanofmydreams · 06/01/2021 17:10

Yes went to see my sister and husband and we are all fine.

Keepdistance · 06/01/2021 17:10

Imo it moves quicker than people think. Loads of positives on 29th dec.
There was an article where mother of a bride died.
It said positive day 5 and dead by day 9 after the wedding.
Today is day 12 after xmas. obviously 6 after new year. So might get even more deaths start to come through.

With xmas though most likely whole families exposed at once (diff to work and school) so it might not work it's way through families in the same way. So more very quickly but less later spread.
But people who caught it 25th without symptoms would stsrt shedding maybe 30th until say the 9th.
So could see an increase due to the kids going into school still contagious

usernolongerexists · 06/01/2021 17:11

we mixed but had arranged to isolate for 2 weeks prior to Christmas, our parents are quite clinically vulnerable but were desperate to see us too. we were very careful beforehand and from a mental health perspective it was absolutely what we all needed. none of us have shown any symptoms or felt unwell since. I think we were incredibly lucky to have life circumstances that would allow us to isolate in this way. If the rules stay so strict as we get towards easter, it is likely we'd do the same again.
