It’s back under a new name “clap for heroes.”

OP posts:
Plussizejumpsuit · 06/01/2021 17:54

Nope. Not for me. Didn't do it first time won't be doing it this time.

Woolyminded · 06/01/2021 17:55

I'd rather drink shots of domestos while nailing my tits to a lampost.
It seems to be a competition in my street for who can clap and bang their pans the longest. Last time the bint opposite me banged her fucking wok for a good ten minutes. I work in a school and I'd rather have had a bit of peace tbh

Yohoheaveho · 06/01/2021 17:56

No, I wont, it's a farce now, if they really valued the work of our heroes theyd have done their part and taken things seriously

This has made me lol 💕💕👍
midnightstar66 · 06/01/2021 18:00

No thankfully it's the back of my house that faces in to the street so it's easily forgotten when we don't even hear them

480Widdio · 06/01/2021 18:02

Not a chance.

ToffeePennie · 06/01/2021 18:04

I refused to last time, I refuse to this time. It’s just pandering and makes the government feel they’re doing something when they’re not.

madroid · 06/01/2021 18:04

Isn't it about the PUBLIC showing support for health workers, rather than the govt?

I think it must be really awful to be a dr or nurse in ICU, seeing 50% of ventilated patients not survive. Surely we can honour the work they do personally while agreeing this shitshow of an excuse for a govt should be awarding a payrise for them before they resign

Pootle40 · 06/01/2021 18:04

How about clap for parents

lozjay · 06/01/2021 18:06

No

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 06/01/2021 18:08

@Pootle40

How about clap for parents
Why? For parenting the child/children they chose to have?

I get wanting to show appreciation for nurses and doctors on the front line risking their lives and seeing awful things but parents just parenting ....

fortyfifty · 06/01/2021 18:10

I would like to add that I show support for NHS frontline staff and carers in other ways - liking tweets, posts on here etc... I can't believe the bitterness and jealousy. There are plenty of carers jobs out there and the NHS are doing a massive recruitment drive so if you want a secure job there's nothing stopping you applying.

nomorename · 06/01/2021 18:12

@Friendnextdoor

The bitterness against doctors, nurses and carers in this thread is astounding. We are not 'lucky to still be in paid employment' we are normal people doing a job (most of us aren't actually paid all that well actually) and now we face comments like this as if somehow nobody should show any sort of appreciation for the people who care for them... as don't we already know how lucky we are! I don't feel lucky, my colleagues and I are at breaking point and we will be suffering the effects for years to come. Some are already being diagnosed with PTSD. I really do feel for people who are struggling financially, emotionally and mentally but we are not exempt from those things. My own mum died, my colleague's husbands business has collapsed and they are having to sell their family home, countless other colleagues are working and also caring for vulnerable relatives and are quite frankly fucking terrified of taking anything home. So, no we don't want you to clap for us but we would also appreciate it if you would stop framing us as the lucky ones. We have lost relatives, homes and have still been turning up day after day to care for everyone else. And actually no, we're not alright as we are priority for the vaccine, incase nobody noticed we have been working for months with no adequate protection so it's all a bit too little, too late.
This. Some of the comments on this thread are shameful.

You miss the point. The last time this happened, the government jumped on it and turned it into some sort of propaganda vessel. They’ll do it again.
Myshinynewname2021 · 06/01/2021 18:13

I will. Not because I believe it helps but because last time I felt like shit and didn't do it snd all the neighbours did, and got to know each other. I don't want to be the grinchy one.

Imapotato · 06/01/2021 18:13

Nah. It’s too cold in the winter!

I’ll just go to work and support my colleagues and do my best for the patients as I always do. That’s enough. I found all the clapping a bit embarrassing last time tbh.

CheshireCats · 06/01/2021 18:14

It's a nope from me.

MinnieMountain · 06/01/2021 18:14

The only frontline NHS worker I know (ICU nurse) thinks it’s pointless none sense. Not that I was going to clap anyway.

CremeEggThief · 06/01/2021 18:15

Nope

openallthetime · 06/01/2021 18:16

no chance! Insulting and patronising virtue signalling. Pay them properly, we should have locked down when we needed to and sorted test and trace - pointless clapping no help, I'd be embarrassed to hear it if I were NHS. Ok for a week or so - after that point ridiculous.

LAlady · 06/01/2021 18:19

No and I didn't the first time.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 06/01/2021 18:20

'The bitterness against doctors, nurses and carers in this thread is astounding'

I think most have said they are grateful but recognise this virtue signalling crap is just an attention seeking excuse to chat to neighbours. Nice last year. Overdoing it to repeat.

Sorry for what you've been through Flowers.

GingerNorthernLass · 06/01/2021 18:21

No, it's too cold and I work for the NHS.

AlwaysLatte · 06/01/2021 18:22

No, no one can here us here anywhere and it would feel silly. I thought the spontaneity was lovely the first couple of times but it got a bit ridiculous after a while. I'm glad I don't live on a street!

pinkclouds333 · 06/01/2021 18:24

Noooooooooo! Truly awful idea - totally cringe and shite!
