They knew a vaccine would be the only way of getting us out of this mess. The country has already been locked down twice. Why, why, why didn’t they use this time to set up the logistics of distributing and administering these vaccines?

Why, why, why are the government allowed to decide who to prioritise to receive these vaccines when they were always going to distribute in a way that benefits them. Surely any government with an ounce of realism would be self aware enough to realise that they would make this vaccine distribution a political decision and instead allow the decision to be made by an independent third party who can distribute it in a way that would allow the country to get back to work. Instead it’s likely that months and months down the line we’ll all be forced to go back to work despite still be unprotected.

I have visions of pensioners being able to swan off on holiday over the summer while the workers of the country will still be unable to.

It’s an absolute fucking farce. Watching that press conference last night just finally made it snap for me - they genuinely don’t know what they’re doing at all

As a teacher and a parent, really not a good impression to give people. If you can't string a sentence together without peppering it with swear words, maybe your child prefers screen time with his mates, regardless of Covid.
It's your job as a parent to boost morale and help your kids through this. Having a hiss fit isn't helpful. Nor is blaming Boris. Take a breath and let it sink in NOBODY KNOWS WHAT TO DO ABOUT COVID. IT'S NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE....

@arethereanyleftatall

The problem the government has is this -

You say they're so fucking stupid they should vaccinate X first.
Mrs bloggs says they're so fucking stupid they should vaccinate Y first.
Mrs S says it's fucking outrageous that they close the schools
Mrs p says it's so fucking outrageous that they open the schools.

They cannot win.

Completely agree with you! Doesn't matter what they do, they can't win. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.
Dontsayfuckorbugger · 07/01/2021 20:45

My nan is 93. She has repeatedly said she will not have the vaccine as it is a complete waste. She would much rather it goes to someone with their whole life in front of them. She thinks any who is passed 90 should decline as 'many will probably pop their clogs soon anyway'. I'm inclined to agree with her.

midgebabe · 07/01/2021 20:48

So your nan is happy to get ill, and take up a hospital bed that means another cancer treatment needs to be cancelled?

trulydelicious · 07/01/2021 20:48

@hopsalong

Anyone in their 80s has had a long life by any standards and has outlived the majority of their generation. It's fantastic if everything can be done to preserve it but society doesn't have infinite resources. Policy needs to be about allocating them fairly

Your train of thought is alarmingly twisted and everything in your post is lacking any rationale.

400rabbits · 07/01/2021 20:51

Jesus, the over 80s aren't being vaccinated first because anyone in charge thinks they're the most important section of society, it's being done in order of people who are most likely to take up hospital beds if they catch covid. Obviously it is having to be done on a population level- of course there will be 50 year olds who are cev and more at risk than a healthy 85 year old ( I'm one of them!) but everyone's individual circumstances can't be taken into account- they're trying to vaccinate millions of people as quickly as possible!

Richdebtomdom · 07/01/2021 20:51

Lots of truly awful people on this one... I should be surprised but, hey... BREXIT...

midgebabe · 07/01/2021 20:51

Anyone in their 30s has had a long life by historic standards , let's kill all them at the same time
Would probably solve the climate change problem too

You first...no I insist

ThistleTits · 07/01/2021 20:52

@Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady

It's about reducing deaths and pressure on the NHS. Always has been.

And I say that as a CV person of working age. Even as CV I won't be getting the vaccine until the summer.

The death rate reduces then restrictions will be lifted. The way the govt. Have arranged the vaccination schedule is one thing they've done that I agree with

I couldn't agree more.
Hesma · 07/01/2021 20:52

The elderly are most likely to die... they should get it first. Those of us under 50 are most likely to survive so we shouldn't be first. I say this as a covid survivor, key worker and single parent. I can't believe how selfish some people in here are being 😥

MillieVanilla · 07/01/2021 20:53

In 4 days, and with no extra cash, our secondary has turned their hall into a fully functioning, rapid Flow test centre, as per the original government instructions for when they had originally been going back.
Now, they have under 30 kids in, it is sitting idle.

There is no fundamental reason why schools, now almost empty, most with at least one large hall (our school has two, and a leisure centre with a squash and badminton court indoors, plus an exercise and dance room), mostly in easily accessible areas with parking, and many on bus routes, couldn't be turned into vaccine Hubs.

Theatres, sports halls, non essential shopping malls, you name it, you could do it there.

It's not that they can't for any other reason than they don't have enough qualified staff to man them.
A relative is a nurse, she is trained and has volunteered, but she said other nurses who aren't vaccine trained yet take blood and all manner of other things and who could easily be trained in under a day are being told no.

Once again, the government and their chronic underfunding strikes again.

Think you might find that there isn't a huge supply of vaccine on tap either. You need enough distribution for the volume you have

Icequeen01 · 07/01/2021 20:58

@Dontsayfuckorbugger I totally respect your Nan's feelings but I don't think she is thinking about how you would feel if you knew you were the one that had passed on a virus that made her "pop her clogs"? That's the bit I couldn't live with.

JessicaBlack101 · 07/01/2021 20:58

it's always going to be political, and what suits their agenda. I was thinking they'd be jabbing the oldies first as guinea pigs to see what happens, and if they die, then hey, less pensions to pay out. a win win for the govt whichever way you look at it.

ExpatAl · 07/01/2021 21:02

It’s short sighted to think like that. The at risk and elderly are more likely to be seriously ill if they catch Covid and require hospitalisation. The elderly desperately need contact too. I find it quite unpleasant to talk about them in such a way.
