How many people are in your children’s classes at the moment?

I’ve been reading the threads on here about how overwhelmed schools are for keyworker and vulnerable children places and this is so totally different to my experience! Are most schools overwhelmed by people needing keyworker/vulnerable children places?
For context i have two children who go to different primary schools in the West Midlands , dd who is 4 has 4 children in her year in out of 60 and dd who is 10 has 7 children in her year in out of 30.

Also just to add I am nhs frontline which is why my children have a space.

Small primary school. Over 120 children need places so classes of 20 children.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/01/2021 20:38

14 children out of around 60 in DS's year in today, not sure about the other years.

80 kids in, school size 300 kids so 27% in

Randomschoolworker19 · 05/01/2021 20:44

We had 7/30 in class today which was broadly representative of classes across the school. Some had fewer and some had slightly more so around 20%.

Sparkles715 · 05/01/2021 20:46

I’m a teacher. 50% of my school in with numbers rising as more employers declare their workers as critical workers.

Randomschoolworker19 · 05/01/2021 20:46

To add, our head has policed the list very carefully as a lot of parents were trying it on. You either need to have 2 key worker parents travelling to work or be classed as vulnerable to get a place.

Doubledoodlemummy · 05/01/2021 20:49

About 30-50% in classes in my large urban primary. A mix of vulnerable and key workers. We are keeping all classes open so the groups are small and we are therefore trying to reduce the risk.

WaveAndSmile · 05/01/2021 20:53

Year 2 - 13/60 children
Year 4 - 16/60 children

gingajewel · 05/01/2021 20:55

Wow so a real mix then, I wonder if it has to do with demographics/areas the schools are in. I have just spoken with a friend whose daughter goes to school a few miles away and there was 25 out of 60 in her daughters reception class, so really different to my experience.

My eldest is in secondary school, he thought about 10 were in his year and about 4-6 in each lesson, he said the year above him only had 2 pupils.

Ds2 is in primary, we didn't send him back today but the school actually emailed to offer him a place so I think they must either be accepting more pupils this time or less parents have used the spaces.

HailFairy · 05/01/2021 21:05

We have about 30% of our children in.

Meredusoleil · 05/01/2021 21:07

Very interesting thread OP as I too was wondering about numbers.

The 2 form primary school I teach in had around the same total number of children today that my dd1 had in just her one class!

I think it definitely depends on the demographics of where the school is located!

Meredusoleil · 05/01/2021 21:07

Dd2 that should say 🤦🏻‍♀️

DipSwimSwoosh · 05/01/2021 21:09

R - 3 out of 25
Y2 - 5 out of 28

Jemma2907 · 05/01/2021 21:11

20 our of 150 in his year group. They will all be isolating now though until next week as one of the boys tested positive this evening. He tested as part of the community testing so had no symptoms and was at school.

gingajewel · 05/01/2021 21:11

My eldest dd just said that in year three there was one child in and as they couldn’t mix the bubbles he was taught and played by himself all day, and that’s made me feel a little sad 😞

Are the kids who are in school getting proper lessons?

SpaceOp · 05/01/2021 21:14

I think it depends on demographics but also school. Dd's class has, based in WhatsApp, about 10 kids in as key worker or vulnerable. But I know school is being generous - ds is in as a "vulnerable" child because he has some additional needs but he doesnt have an EHCP but school still taking him.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/01/2021 21:17

DS said they have been doing work all day. I think it will probably be the same work the teacher puts online.
gingajewel · 05/01/2021 21:18

Did who is ten said that they put the things from google classroom onto the whiteboard and did those, so the same things that the children did at home.
Dd who is 4 said she played all day-but who knows!

Just over 30% here

Randomschoolworker19 · 05/01/2021 21:24

@CalmDownBoris72

The 7 children in my class were working all day using Google Classroom doing the same work that has been set for those at home. We are also going to be doing live lessons which those in school and at home will attend.

MrsWombat · 05/01/2021 21:25

15-20 out of 120
