I’ve been reading the threads on here about how overwhelmed schools are for keyworker and vulnerable children places and this is so totally different to my experience! Are most schools overwhelmed by people needing keyworker/vulnerable children places?
For context i have two children who go to different primary schools in the West Midlands , dd who is 4 has 4 children in her year in out of 60 and dd who is 10 has 7 children in her year in out of 30.

35 out of a year group of 58

minisoksmakehardwork · 08/01/2021 20:01

We had 70 pupils total out of 1700. I suspect that will rise by next week though. We have a small number of ehcp students who are really struggling with online working from home so think they will be invited in to school.

Swimmingiscancelled · 08/01/2021 20:01

From what I can see in Dd year it’s about 30% in. A high proportion of vulnerable children are making it up.

I am watching closely as if they get any more I think they will crack down on key workers where only 1 parent is a key worker

Swimmingiscancelled · 08/01/2021 20:02

That looks like 1 bubble of 15 in one classroom and a separate group of 7 out of 60

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 08/01/2021 20:02

3 in my kid's class. Possibly up to 5 next week as a couple of families will be out of isolation. The biggest class at the moment has 7 kids.

Gncq · 08/01/2021 20:04

We are in a small village school, YR1 would normally have 8 children in. 2 of those children are being homeschooled right now.

Rest of the years it's about 50/50.

ellenleaves · 08/01/2021 20:04

Under 20% - they are saying two parents must be critical workers outside the home.

CreamFirstThenJamOnTop · 08/01/2021 20:05

School sent out an email today asking people to reconsider whether they really need the provision as they’re overrun. When I picked dd up there appeared to be 5 in her class (out of a usual 29). I thought this seemed pretty reasonable and they had 3 staff in the class which really surprised me.

I’ve since heard from other parents that the foundation year is very oversubscribed.

munchbunch12 · 08/01/2021 20:17

In DD's primary school there has been a maximum of 20 children in per day in her year, split into 2 groups of 10 (usually 90 children in 3 classes) so about 22% are in at most. Other years must be busier though as a teacher told me that over all about 30% of children are attending, although some like DD will be part time so day to day the figure varies.

BikeRunSki · 08/01/2021 20:23

Y4 - 8/31
Y7 - 7/30, including a child from a remote farm where broadband speeds will not support online classes.

Badgerstmary · 08/01/2021 20:27

Yr 7 24/210 split into a 15 & a 9.

bluechameleon · 08/01/2021 20:29

4 children out of 30 in DS1's mainstream class. 11 out of 48 of my department in an SEN school.

cadburyegg · 08/01/2021 20:34

17/50 in Y1

FrancesHaHa · 08/01/2021 20:42

14/60 in DD's year. But they are the biggest year in the school. Year 6 only has 1 child out of 60 and one of the other years has 3 children. They've been keeping them in their year groups but talking about mixing some of the years next week as the ratios are small in those years. It fluctuates from day to day though as kids only in when parents working so some in for a few days, some half days etc.

Supervised by TAs and doing the work on iPads the same as the children at home (no live lessons).

freezedriedromance · 08/01/2021 20:44

East Midlands - 16/62 children in the year group.

ConfusedcomMum · 08/01/2021 20:44

Y1: 14 out of 120 but we are in a borough where 1 out of 18 people had covid recently (apparently).

ConfusedcomMum · 08/01/2021 20:44

1 in every 18*

LillethCrane · 08/01/2021 20:53

In my dad’ class- 11
In my class- 26

oohmyback · 08/01/2021 21:02

Really low numbers. The first day they offered emergency places without checking so kws could get to work then that day they sent emails asking for evidence of kw status. As they see inundated!! My girl was in first time today as I work pt. There was only about 20 kids arrived same time as us but saw a few walking up the road too. Dd has about 8 in her bubble from y1 and y2. I'm happy they've been strict about it and relieved I got my girl a place as although Im a kw dh is only classed as essential business but he works in a workshop and can't do it at home. I can't teach live lessons with a 7 year old in the house!!

HamishDent · 08/01/2021 21:06

Not many, but the school is being very strict. They are also just receiving childcare and not actual face to face teaching and attending the same online learning provision as the children at home. This is the way it should be. There should be no educational advantage to attending school under these circumstances and therefore disadvantaging those at home.

badlydrawnbear · 08/01/2021 21:13

About 8-12 out of about 60. I have DC in year 1 and year 5. DC1's teacher told me there were 8 in yesterday, DC2 listed everyone in her class which was about 10-12, but it will vary slightly from day to day as there will be other parents like me who don't work 5 days a week.

DoThePropeller · 08/01/2021 21:14

85/160 but that does include nursery/pre-school class that’s fully open

Avebury · 09/01/2021 11:43

Independent primary school and although the numbers as a% are reasonable so many people abusing the criteria. SAHP with senior investment banker partners and full time Nannies and Housekeepers. It is making my blood boil not least because the teachers who have to be in to care for these DC have had to take key worker places for their own DC so that adds to the number of people not staying safe at home. And we are London.

Overthinker12 · 09/01/2021 12:37

15 out of 50 reception kids in my DS school so 30%

I am a key worker but WFH (and my kw Status is questionable IMO). I've been made to feel so guilty for sending him in by friends and family but my work will not allow me to look after him while WFH and keep telling me school cannot refuse me a place.
It's such a horrible situation to be in.

However he loves being there and is having full lessons including PE and forest school. Feel extremely sorry for those unable to go, many children on my street unable to go to the same school and it honestly feels like the walk of shame when I take him 😔 have cried so much this week.

Oh God yes! Live in a small community where all the local kids attend the same school. I know of so many parents in neighbouring streets finding it just so difficult, so the guilt is huge.
