As far as I can see , with the exception of a few areas in Tier 3 and schools closing , nothing has really changed. Except if you work in non key worker roles your life has just become exponentially more complicated?

If - for example you work in a fashion warehouse. Travel by public transport and have a couple of children at primary .. exactly HOW are you going to 'Stay home, Protect the NHS & Save Lives ' ?

Because - as far as I heard, yet again there was no MUST .. only the weasel words of ' should, where possible work from home' .. no order to close businesses. No mention of non essential workers required to be furloughed.. so tomorrow, all those people who can't work from home but haven't got 'key worker status' (so can't access schools) do WHAT exactly ?

There’s no unlimited exercise, it’s back to one walk a day in your local area.

partyatthepalace · 04/01/2021 23:52

Yep, but we have the mother of all economic crashes coming, so the desire to keep as many businesses as possible going, while hoping the closure of schools and leisure will be enough to keep the virus at a level the NHS can just about cope with is understandable - it’s just hugely frustrating implementation hasn’t been more consistent.

I absolutely agree it’s shit the burden feels so heavily on mothers, but I would prefer to try and extend childcare than extend borrowing to provide furlough that isn’t absolutely necessary. Again this would be easier if we’d implemented earlier so the spread wasn’t so extreme.

Other than that I hope we can address childcare balance going forward, but am not holding breath.

There are some v weird comments on this thread re going out for exercise and kids going out to play. Going for a couple of walks is not a major cause of spread. We know the virus transmits much less effectively outdoors.

TillysMum02 · 04/01/2021 23:54

you can still go to home bargains for new cushions and a lampshade....maybe get a few wallpaper samples from b and m whilst out

and then a lovely trip round the garden centre looking at the pretty flowers

its no real lockdown is it!

Yohoheaveho · 04/01/2021 23:56

Going for a walk is exercise, exercise saves lives
I'm going to walk my socks off

Kids need to go outside and exercise they need fresh air and time in nature. Adults need to go outside to exercise for their physical and mental health. Transmission rates outside are very low. If everyone is respectful these things can be done perfectly safely.

LoudTree - Are you one of these people who claims to be a 'breatharian' - and that only the very weak-minded and those lacking any personal discipline will succumb to the belief that they actually require food in order to survive?

(We dont have Home Bargains and B&M here, I have heard of them - why are they allowed to open though; is that like Wilkinsons? or B&Q?) And yes garden centres are open, I assume also places like Superdrug and Boots, Holland and Barrett, so where I live with those places open plus supermarkets, M&S food hall, and every restaurant and cafe doing takeaways for collection, playgrounds open, there's plenty for people to do and see every day, drop the kids off at nursery go shopping and get coffee etc. The groups they are with will, of course, all be their "bubble", and the bubble will change every other day apart from Sundays when they go to church.

Those that scream ‘it’s not a hard enough lockdown’ are often generally those that will a) be in secure jobs that aren’t affected by lockdown b) feel that everyone should be paid indefinitely by the state through the furlough scheme not understanding that the bill will have to be paid back and that in the meantime the economy will crash meaning less money for public services and pensions.

bugwife9 · 05/01/2021 00:03

@LoudTree I assume you are joking? As otherwise you are starting to sound a tad totalitarian.

No- being allowed to leave home is a privilege, not a right. Too many people have abused that privilege and broken the rules- which is why we are now in this situation.

As a result, there need to be harsh consequences and that should include the removal of the right to leave home.
You sound ridiculous

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 05/01/2021 00:06

LoudTree - I don't know what country you're in, but are you used to living in a Western democracy? We all know that these are strange times, and that we have to make some compromises; but the way you're talking is really making me think that you might have been brainwashed into believing that life in one of the countries that (ironically) has the word 'Democratic' in its name is the only sort to which anybody should ever want to aspire.

borntohula · 05/01/2021 00:06

@LoudTree

It’s about messaging *@KitKatastrophe. If the government made very clear that the only* acceptable reason for leaving home is essential work, they would stay the fuck at home.

Equally, there needs to be proper enforcement. Army and police on the streets issuing large fines to people caught outside their homes. Prison for second offenders.

Pp right, you sound fucking deranged. What kind of a pathetic little life are you actually willing to live? So sad.

Bang on.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 05/01/2021 00:09

....as in "I believe you are absolutely correct" - I'm not suggesting that you're banging on with 'nonsense', in case that's how it came across!

This must be a troll - surely to God there aren't people this deranged in real life?

GordonsAliveAndEatsPies · 05/01/2021 00:13

Ha! Thanks :) They will also be the first to whinge when it happens

Bagamoyo1 · 05/01/2021 00:13

To the people who feel the lockdown isn’t hard enough - I’m sorry your lives aren’t as miserable as you’d like them to be. If it’s any consolation, my life is shit. So there you go, you can take comfort from my suffering.

borntohula · 05/01/2021 00:14

@ProfessorPootle

Doesn't seem to specify how long that 'one walk' has to last though. So you could go on a 3hr walk I guess.
PickAChew · 05/01/2021 00:14

I suspect that some of these people who think that staying at home with no exercise for 3 months is desirable must be in pretty poor physical shape. That makes you more vulnerable to covid, you know.

I'd feel sorry for a DC being taught by a parent that their 'right' to go out for a walk or to play is more important than saving lives.

The DC in Spain were disciplined and understood that they had to stay indoors to keep others safe.

Here on the other hand we have people desperate to go out multiple times per day for non-essential reasons like walks or buying chocolate bars Hmm
If we lockdown as hard as the Spanish did in the spring, will we see similar levels of success?

I'm probably looking at the wrong sources but sites like Worldometer suggest that the UK has a lower number of cases per 100k and a slightly higher number of deaths per 100k when compared to Spain.

Fizbosshoes · 05/01/2021 00:18

Is this the appropriate place for most of MN to get their knickers in a twist about B and M bargains and The range. (these 2 shops seem to be a marker of whether a lockdown has been properly implemented Hmm

Wheresthebeach · 05/01/2021 00:19

loudtree you’ve been having an absolute ball winding everyone up. You’ve had you’re fun now so run along and let the grownups have a sensible talk now...

Saylethewayles · 05/01/2021 00:25

LoudTree has been posting the same shite under different usernames for a couple of weeks now. Change the record.

HibernatingTill2030 · 05/01/2021 00:28

Are there any tier 3 areas now? I thought everywhere was tier 5?
