I’m just so fed up. It feels like Groundhog Day now. Worried about business, worried about ds’s schooling. Doing dry January too - thinking about scraping that tbh. How’s everyone else doing?

OP posts:
bluebeck · 04/01/2021 21:24

@CoronaIsWatching

This is the best time to do Dry January when you can't go anywhere
Totally agree with that!!

It is a lighter touch than Lockdown 1, and the vaccines are coming.....

Cherrysoup · 04/01/2021 21:24

I want to know how I’m meant to do live lessons when my dh is asleep in the next room after a night shift. How is any teacher meant to do live lessons with their own little dc running round? How are parents meant to stay at home with small dc when they have to work? I just give in, I was delighted to be at school today. 😢

Caspah · 04/01/2021 21:25

@Vebrithian > You can and you will. When we're going through really good times do we expect them to last forever? Life goes in cycles. Unfortunately the great times don't last, but conversely the horrible times don't last. They can't, so we need to ride them out. We don't expect life to be always wonderful, which means it can't always be crap.

herecomesthsun · 04/01/2021 21:25

@Bathroom12345

I really didn’t want the schools to close. However it is the right thing but now that this has happened we need to look at ourselves, are we doing everything we can to avoid spreading it. Or are some going to start the yes but the rules don’t apply to me because xxxxxx (insert random selfish reason).

Some on MN are on some sort of lefty march. The comments they have made about our politicians are disgraceful. Calling someone a cxxt shouldn’t be allowed. They mouth off and won’t listen to any other view point.

Shame on them.

ok I didn't use that word about Boris (I don't use that as an insult)

But do you not think some of his decisions have, well been a bit unwise?

For example, waiting till the children have already been into school today and mixed before announcing a lockdown - did you think that was a good idea? or what?

There could be quite a lot of deaths just because of that.

Also, if there is an upswing from the return to school, it could mean we all spend even longer in lockdown, which isn't what anyone wants.

And as someone who is CEV it has been really stressful having unsupportive messages from the school, even though we are now in Tier 4.

It has been a hell of a day.

I can see it is a difficult situation for any Prime Minister but I personally think Boris is really particularly unsuited for this crisis. And today is quite a good instance of why.

Seasaltyhair · 04/01/2021 21:25

DuchessOfDerbyshire We are talking of 5 weeks to mid-February. WE can all DO that

What’s the betting this poster has a lovely bloke that’s goes to work for her, wfh with quiet kids, on benefits or has a lovely pension...

tootsytoo · 04/01/2021 21:25

@bluebeck how exactly is it a lighter Touch than lockdown 1? It's exactly the same

Dee261 · 04/01/2021 21:25

Thoughts and prayers are with you all 💞. It is a horrible virus and I do hope and pray you are not impacted with the longer lasting effects of (long COVID). It blooming drains you so so much Flowers

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/01/2021 21:26

Oh! I should have run a Bingo card.

Yet civil liberties us bein' eroded would have meant a full house.

Oddly nobody who spouts that ever has a clue as to what else could have been done. Unless they are brave enough to actually type we should have just carried on as normal cos nothing would have happened.... to anyone important, productive...

tootsytoo · 04/01/2021 21:26

Anyone who still thinks lockdown and closing schools is a good idea has truly lost their minds.

Astressedmumoftwo · 04/01/2021 21:26

I wasn't sending mine to school, so I'm pleased they took that out my hands.. But, I'm a stay at home mum. I feel for everyone who is going to struggle with these announcements and of course vulnerable children who thrive in a school environment.

CarlottaValdez · 04/01/2021 21:26

Get used to your human rights being restricted every time theres a bad flu season in future.

This worries me too - it’s actually quite common for hospitals to reach capacity and for lots of prior to die of flu. One way to deal with it would be to increase hospital capacity but I guess instead we’ll all just be locked up like animals every winter. I honestly think it’s a possibility- once the narrative of restricting us all to keep hospitals ticking over is accepted it’s a terrible precedent.

Sobeyondthehills · 04/01/2021 21:28

WE can all DO that

@DuchessofDerbyshire

No, we all can't do that. Over three 3 million people been without help for nearly a year now. My mental health is in the fucking toilet, I have friends only just clinging on by their fingertips.

Another 6 weeks for those who live in flats, barely have any food in, living on the poverty line.

We are all in the same fucking storm, but while some are on cruise ships, the others are in a fucking rubber dingy with a hole, using a sieve to bail out the water

Seasaltyhair · 04/01/2021 21:28

I think Boris tried to do his best to make sure the country doesn’t go bankrupt - that’s why he kept kids off school. I’m sure he is well aware of the unemployment and bankruptcies that will come from this.

This was not an easy choice to make - especially when so many of us didn’t want schools to shut

safariboot · 04/01/2021 21:28

I will cope well. My thoughts are with all those who won't.

This has all happened because last year the British government failed to control the virus. It has been constant wishful thinking and head-in-the-sand attitude from them. We have this virulent strain, which will probably go global, because our government allowed the original strains to spread and evolve in the UK.

SmokedGlass · 04/01/2021 21:28

@Unsure33

Well said, it’s tough times for sure
Like him or loathe him, we can’t blame Boris, it’s slow, crap communication and dithering by all members of the Government on all sides and the other official bodies supposedly looking out for this country
No one has given the people confidence - and Boris has had to do a lonely job
Everyone is very critical, but no one steps forward to help or advise

Not one governing body or individual wants the backlash on taking decisions, their egos are huge and they all keep schtum in fear of losing their precious jobs

Every family is suffering
It’s all just one big mess

Ok. It’s a ‘British’ covid strain is it? Hmm
CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/01/2021 21:29

Oh! Just had sector journal confirm that this time housing sales and letting will not close down.

So I can carry on doing the one job a week or so I get offered. Yay! My business might limp on a while longer.

tootsytoo · 04/01/2021 21:30

Once the narrative of restricting us all to keep hospitals ticking over is accepted it’s a terrible precedent.

So true. If hospitals her full at this point I'd be willing to take the risk. This is honestly the most fucked up thing I've ever seen.

So true, but remember we have to just keep saving lives. At any cost. So it's all acceptable! Because saving lives is more important than alive ones that are total shit because everything's been stripped from them.

I agree
wanderings · 04/01/2021 21:34

@GreenlandTheMovie I'm worried that future flu seasons = lockdown as well. A massive precedent has now been set: NHS struggling? Lockdown. People will have got used to being paid not to work.

And yes, "I hope to reopen schools in February" means sweet fuck all. Remember these?
"We can turn this virus around in twelve weeks."
"Normal by September."
"Normalish by Christmas."
"It would be inhumane to cancel Christmas."
And now "Schools are safe."

When he said "I hope things will be better by Easter", did he say which year? And did somebody tell him that the magic money tree is as fabulous as Santa Claus?

tootsytoo · 04/01/2021 21:34

@CuriousaboutSamphire yes maybe you should leave.

Because if you agree with your human rights getting ripped away then you've lost it.

MrsMiaWallis · 04/01/2021 21:34

I hope the NHS claps our kids next Thursday.
