I’m just so fed up. It feels like Groundhog Day now. Worried about business, worried about ds’s schooling. Doing dry January too - thinking about scraping that tbh. How’s everyone else doing?

OP posts:
bluebeck · 04/01/2021 21:35

@tootsytoo

Nurseries were only open to key workers children, there are support bubbles now which we didn't have in March, and shops other than grocery stores are open.

Flaxmeadow · 04/01/2021 21:35

It was inevitable. What did people expect?

It's been obvious from the start that this is a crisis of massive proportions.

ivfbabymomma1 · 04/01/2021 21:37

@MajesticWhine hahahah your comment proper had me laughing! All this discussion about lockdown and you come in with dry jan! You've proper cheered me up thank you!!! & I agree x

tootsytoo · 04/01/2021 21:38

@MrsMiaWallis 😂 same I think they should be too. I think every adult should be clapping for the kids right now because they're suffering BIG time for all of us.

Sobeyondthehills · 04/01/2021 21:38

It was inevitable. What did people expect?

It was, I am angry how the government have insisted that children go in today, when everyone for a least the last week have been saying they need to close schools.

If it was obvious to all of them, why was it not obvious to our Government?

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 04/01/2021 21:39

Extremely disappointed (understatement personified) but obviously very necessary as no other less bad option.

However as expected too little too late yet again. No surprise! But why? British entitlement? Not sure why we are as a society are so different from say Australia or New Zealand etc? Obviously we can’t compare to Taiwan and South Korea as we Brits do not have the discipline nor social cohesion and culture etc.

Only slight optimism is obviously the vaccines but naturally two job vaccination not just vaccines as the globe fights for supplies as per shortages of medical facilities, PPE and ventilators before.

Will we ever lose the non believers? Why are some people forever protesting it's all a hoax including being en masse disrupting overwhelmed hospitals etc?

Very sad! Look after yourself all! Stay safe.

Keepyourdistance000 · 04/01/2021 21:39

Someone on my Facebook has put it could be until the end of March Sad

I don't know how I'm going to make it through until mid February, let alone end of March.

Nat6999 · 04/01/2021 21:40

It's going to be at least April until everyone eligible has had at least one dose of the vaccine, can anyone really see things changing before then?

MistressoftheDarkSide · 04/01/2021 21:40

Surely the main reason for the anger here is because right back in the beginning the government gambled on this being a mild virus for most and that despite the WHO calling a pandemic they left it right to the last minute to take action. Borders weren't policed,testing was shambolic, there was no erring on the side of caution, just a gung ho "I've shaken hands with lots of people in the hospital" attitude that backfired massively.

Would it really have been so disastrous to stop mass events and clamp down on travel right back at the beginning for a short while? How did NZ manage it? They are an island too.

This year of yoyo-ing at immense cost both virus related and economically is the reason we're in this mess. I don't think asking for a little bit of accountability is out of order.

TheClitterati · 04/01/2021 21:40

I feel
Sick. Working FT & homeschooling 2 dc. Single parent.

9yo has changed schools since last lockdown so Im hoping the level of set work from this new school will be better than the purple mash shit show of the last Svhool. It's really not a high bar.

Main worry is we are in 11+ area and Dd has to sit the test in September Confused

GetOffYourHighHorse · 04/01/2021 21:40

'Yesterday and this morning there was one set of data available.By lunch time another set of data had been delivered, other conferences held, other precedences set. There'll be more by Wednesday.'

(Curious I'm your new no.1 fan.) This though, exactly! It is a rapidly changing situation. So reviews, changes etc are made. Honestly imagine if he didn't make changes as necessary.

@tootsytoo it is nothing to do with 'ripping away away human rights', it is a crisis. Have you not seen the news lately?

Seasaltyhair · 04/01/2021 21:41

@Nat6999

No it won’t. We’re fucked
Longpinknails · 04/01/2021 21:41

It has to be stricter, because so many people haven’t given a damn. I know so many suffering right now with Covid. This is the right thing to do in the circumstances we are in.

herecomesthsun · 04/01/2021 21:42

@Seasaltyhair

I think Boris tried to do his best to make sure the country doesn’t go bankrupt - that’s why he kept kids off school. I’m sure he is well aware of the unemployment and bankruptcies that will come from this.

This was not an easy choice to make - especially when so many of us didn’t want schools to shut

Health vs the economy is not an either / or.

If Boris has listened to the scientists earlier, had shorter lockdowns when SAGE suggested, the numbers would not have grown so high and we wouldn't be facing such a long lockdown now.

We really need to follow the science better, that is what to take from this.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/01/2021 21:42

tootsy my human rights still exist. My civil liberties have been curtailed.

Currently I have lost nothing and there are checks and measures being put in place to ensure that my civil liberties are not curtailed for longer than necessary... many well respected legal minds have been working on that for about a year.

If you want to discuss what rights we have lost, permanently not temporarily, at least try to identify them correctly.

And try to remember that with rights come responsibilities... and this is a time to be aware of our responsibilities rather than standing, bantam proud, on our perceived rights.

Tara336 · 04/01/2021 21:42

I am feeling hopeless, there is no light at the end of the tunnel because Boris keeps switching it off. I feel flat no emotion at all except what is the bloody point any more. We are living in Groundhog Day and a police state in all but name.

Chel098 · 04/01/2021 21:42

@WobbleTime

I’m having a Gin and tonic.
Best update of the night Grin
lovelemoncurd · 04/01/2021 21:43

15 year old daughter thrived last lockdown. She's cried tears of joy! She prefers to work online and her and all her friends organise quizzes via Zoom etc.

I don't think I will ever get her back to school again 😥

CantSayJack · 04/01/2021 21:43

I’m so gutted.
The middle class Mums at our school with big houses and gardens and who don’t need to work were wanting this at our school, I’m so angry I could smash shit up. Wfh and homeschooling with crappy worksheets the teacher downloads because she can’t plan for toffee.. again. I haven’t the time or inclination but will have to force myself to avoid kids dropping back further.Am livid.
How did the Govt.get this so wrong? It’s been 10 fucking months!!

RaininSummer · 04/01/2021 21:43

I think this was inevitable but the false hope of schools opening should never have been given. This will pass though so try to cling on to whatever sanity you have . It must be so hard for those of you with very young children especially in flats and having to wfh.

tootsytoo · 04/01/2021 21:44

@GetOffYourHighHorse yes it's a crisis when people cannot earn a fucking living and the government aren't paying them to shut shop.

It's a crisis that kids are NOT being properly educated.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 04/01/2021 21:45

@Tara336

There is hope. 2 vaccines! It really is a case of gritting out teeth in Jan, actually adhering to the rules and I'm sure by mid Feb we'll see an improvement.

It isn't a police state.

MrsMiaWallis · 04/01/2021 21:46

My kids are lucky and very privileged. Nice home, good school, garden. But today I realised that this is going to damage their mental health. They are going to suffer. And so many kids have it worse.

I can't bear it.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/01/2021 21:46

And those inconvenient enough to die... Don't forget those in your crisis....

southeastdweller · 04/01/2021 21:46

@Nat6999

It's going to be at least April until everyone eligible has had at least one dose of the vaccine, can anyone really see things changing before then?
Sunak won't want non-essential shops and services closed until April so I do think after lockdown 3.0 ends some tier 4 areas will move down to tier 3 or tier 2. Between now and April that's the only change I believe will happen.
