Have just stumbled across Taffix which scientists say reduces risk of covid by 78%. How is this not bigger news, could be an absolute game changer especially for school staff

Op I used first defense back in March when I felt a strange tingle in my nose and throat. I had read that it can do something to help and whilst I have no 100% I had covid I did loose sense of smell and taste, had gastric symptoms and so on. I had a very mild experience of covid - whether that helped I do not know I also gargled.

Something simple like this will provide that break through for sure!

There’s research underway on Boots Dual Defence spray as well in Swansea.

bingandflop · 04/01/2021 11:14

This gives me a ray of hope in a dire situation

Vicks first defense for me. Stops a cold in its tracks so that's good enough for me.

bingandflop · 04/01/2021 11:17

I wonder why there isnt more about this in the media? Surely if this is true we could all start using nasal sprays and go about life in a more normal fashion

Sounds good. I used vicks first defence religiously every day as I was so worried about getting corona. Well that didn't work so work so would be keen to try something else.

eeiizzol · 04/01/2021 11:20

Was advised by a work colleague (Doctor) back in January last year to use first defence daily and also to vitamin D

Jrobhatch29 · 04/01/2021 11:22

My neighbour was talking to me about this last week. He is an optician and says he has been using a nasal spray

EngineeringFix · 04/01/2021 11:23

Every little helps.

tara66 · 04/01/2021 11:27

It is in media and on sale on amazon but quite expensive and delivery only at end of month.

Giggorata · 04/01/2021 11:47

I have been using Nasaleze, the green one, throughout.

Lucidas · 04/01/2021 11:55

If it lasts for 100 days (one application a day), then I don't think it's that expensive no?

Surprised that more outlets haven't picked up on it. Is there a peer reviewed paper?

Fernie6491 · 04/01/2021 11:56

I read about the vitamin D supplement possibly helping so DH and I have been taking it since the end of November.
A higher of dose of 4000 IU was recommended , but as we couldn't find that, so I got some with 5000 IU and we take half a tablet each daily. Not quite the amount suggested but it gives us a bit more confidence.

ginnytrap · 04/01/2021 12:15

Vitamin d is meant to help I heard this as well

Deux · 04/01/2021 13:06

On the vitamin D, you can take several days or a whole weeks worth of dose in one go. I had a diagnosed vitamin d deficiency and both doctor and pharmacist told me this as the vitamin D is stored by the body and excess isnt peed out like some other vitamins. I think there’s more about that on the vitamindcouncil website.

weepingwillow22 · 04/01/2021 13:44

I had mild covid, cold symptoms and a bit of fatigue for a week. I gargled mouthwash, used vicks first defence, took high dose vit d, drank lots of green tea and sambucol. 10 days on I feel back to normal.

RunnerDown · 04/01/2021 15:52

A Cochrane review earlier in the year found no evidence for benifitsor risks of using nasal sprays in corona virus

The article in the mirror offers no link to a controlled trial to back up the claims being made. Unless someone can show such evidence then I would be extremely wary of relying on something like this to help. Anecdotal evidence about individuals and their beliefs hold no water . Think of Trump and his conviction about hydroxychloquine

RunnerDown · 04/01/2021 15:52

Hydroxychloroquine .

picklemewalnuts · 04/01/2021 15:55

I've used first defence in the past. It burns and leaves me feeling like I'm on the edge of a cold. I assumed it was fighting something off, but actually I feel like that even if I feel fine when I first take it. So I'm not convinced.

DarceyDashwood · 04/01/2021 17:13

There currently a trial going on about Boots Dual Defence www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1368453/coronavirus-uk-seaweed-nasal-spray-carrageenan-trials-swansea-university/amp

But if you had it mildly, you'd probably have felt better in 10 days anyway!

BlackInk · 04/01/2021 17:52

First Defence makes me feel like my head/face/nose/throat is about to explode, and makes my nose bleed... not sure I'd recommend taking it daily for any length of time!

orangenasturtium · 04/01/2021 17:54

I am mildly amused to note that the CEO of Taffix is called Dr Megiddo, which translates from Hebrew (it's an Israeli company) as Dr Armageddon.

The main active ingredient is in other powder/gel nasal sprays.

StormyInTheNorth · 04/01/2021 17:59

Have been taking Vit D since Sept. DD and DH had a cold later in the year. I didn't get it. I'd usually get it because 5 year olds are germ spreaders.
I was geared up to be really ill because I get bad postnasal drip cough.
I was amazed.
