I hate the way he talks as if the decisions are out of his control.

Presumably lots of practice from explaining why he has impregnated yet another mistress.

🤣🤣🤣

@Curtainsarefab

I don’t think it’s a parallel universe, I think parents in RL are massively torn and having to want things/make decisions that should be clearer if the fuzziness and data from the top wasn’t bollocks!

I have RL friends in one school completely wanting their kids in for either education or because they can’t stand them at home. And a few that absolutely want them to close and don’t want to send them.

At the other (older) school things seem less polarised and more nervous about what the right thing to do is. They all want them in but are equally nervous about the growing threat.

Whereas my sister, a primary school teacher with asthma is absolutely fucking terrified and has to be there.

It’s an absolute awful mess!

@Curtainsarefab I was in the NEU zoom meeting yesterday. They are advising the primary teachers to not go back to school whilst it’s full classes as it was last term in H&S grounds. There is a letter she can find on their website to send to ht. they said she should still get paid because she has said she will wfh. It’s not strike action. The letter is available to everyone and can be used if not a member of NEU.

@Bagamoyo1

Is there anyone on mumsnet who doesn’t want a full lockdown with school closures? It’s like a parallel universe here.
I don’t. Even though I’m a key worker I worry about all the people who will lose their jobs.
Legoteacups · 04/01/2021 06:58

Why does sky say first time round we could only exercise once a day? That was never true.

It’ll happen but my god I’ve had enough. I’m just biding my time and then I’ve got an excellent way out planned. Clearly it’s necessary but I’ve had enough, not as it matters. I just cannot see the point any longer. The phrase lockdown alone makes me feel claustrophobic, I wish it were called something else. Back into lockdown. It’s immeasurably depressing, not that I’m suggesting the alternative is better.

Agree that he shouldn’t have allowed schools back today, what’s the point? They’ve been off for two weeks, it would have been a good start.

Rainbowqueeen · 04/01/2021 07:01

If lockdown happens the borders also need to be closed to non essential travel. Anyone overseas has 48 hours to return or they need to apply for exemption (like in Victoria, Australia)

leafygarden42 · 04/01/2021 07:07

Fucking idiot twat Boris from start to finish.

And I won't apologise for using swear words.

Totallycluelessoverhere · 04/01/2021 07:21

A school in Oldham has decided to close due to the virus rates.
In November rates in Oldham were over 600 per 100,000 and the rates are currently 150 per 100,000. Why didn’t they close in November?

Travelledtheworld · 04/01/2021 07:25

I would have gone for a full lockdown right after Christmas while schools were still off, and many people were off work.

Explaining to the mistress about the other mistress must have been quite the conversation.

Maybe because the twat that is Gavin Williamson would have threatened them with court action?? But now London is affected they can close. I hope the people outside of London remember how the government treated them when they were in crisis.

Another fucking lockdown is coming, cases will reduce slightly, then surge, then maybe another lockdown or we go back to tiers (lockdown rebranded), and it goes on and on and on. These lockdowns just aren’t working.

TheMostHappy · 04/01/2021 07:50

My brother works in IT. C£100M was spent by DofE last lockdown for laptops for home learning, to my knowledge, haven't been distributed. What's going on??

Absolutely. This life is a total misery.

There is a vaccine available now. Not saying is will sort things instantaneously but it should help significantly in the future and we will hopefully see an end to the lockdown cycles that we were warned at the start we would have until that vaccine was up and running.
Pisteachios · 04/01/2021 08:05

I've been living like we're under full lockdown for the past 4 months anyway, everything I want to do is closed... It makes no difference to me what BoJo decides

Pisteachios · 04/01/2021 08:08

Really funny to have so many people complaining about going into lockdown.. some of us never left it

nosswith · 04/01/2021 08:14

The best decision he could make is resignation.

Peregrina · 04/01/2021 08:15

I wish the PM would decide to resign immediately and then maybe someone who can make sensible decisions could be put in charge.

I am in a region which didn’t really leave lockdown...but, the schools were opened and that makes a huge difference.
LobotheBotanist · 04/01/2021 08:16

I am dreading a full lockdown and school closures and I think it’s the wrong decision

Pisteachios · 04/01/2021 08:17

Is there anyone better who could replace him if he did design though? I wish we had someone like New Zealand's prime minister, she's so switched on

annevonkleve · 04/01/2021 08:17
@mrsknottschicken

There are legitimate arguments about whether schools to be closed to reduce overall transmission and protect NHS capacity.

However, DC themselves are at extremely low risk from COVID. Indeed, they are at far more risk from schools being closed.

Parents and staff are also at very low risk unless clinically vulnerable.

The ‘risk’ to DC is a terrible argument for schools to close.
This. There was someone on R4 today who models scenarios and he was asked a direct question about whether he thought primary schools should close and he said that they didn't think so, at the moment.

He said secondary schools were a different issue.

As I've said before, if you are worried keep your children off.

PopsicleHustler · 04/01/2021 08:21

Really hoping for a lockdown and all schools closed for a food while.
Everyone mixed at Christmas and going to school without the symptoms and spreading to others is really worrying.
This new variant is affecting children big time.

Coffeeandcocopops · 04/01/2021 08:24

It scares me that schools will close. My oldest sons A level results were disappointing last summer so he is planning to resit then this summer. Well that will be cancelled and his future career on hold. My second son has GCSEs this summer. I know exams aren’t everything and life is more important but tell that to future employers and kids.
