To say if they bring in the "only one hour a day outside" guidance I am NOT going to follow it

There are rumours on the BBC news that the Government might bring back rules saying you can only exercise outside for an hour a day.

AIBU to ignore it if they do? I followed it last time despite the fact that it was only in guidance (rather than the law) even though it had a negative impact on me and there is an incredibly low chance of the virus being transmitted outside, especially if you keep away from people.

Bringing this rule back whilst schools stay open seems especially ridiculous.

@MrsMiaWallis

The things people say on here!
Everyone is going bloody crazy
CeibaTree · 03/01/2021 22:39

I voted YABU as that was never a rule. But if it was then YANBU not to follow it :)

MrsMiaWallis · 03/01/2021 22:40

Half of the posts on here sound deranged, and I use that word deliberately

Quaagars · 03/01/2021 22:40

Just reported that one (and I don't care lol) I'm all for thinking some posts are Hmm or Biscuit but personal attacks like that are below the belt

Nospringchickendipper · 03/01/2021 22:40

So because I’ve got a garden I’m expected to walk around it for in circles for a couple of hours.

chomalungma · 03/01/2021 22:40

@ZenNudist

Friends in the police say its unpoliceable. It doesn't make a difference anyway.
Obviously the police lack imagination in how to enforce it.

Microchips anyone?

Or the security Daleks from Dr Who?

DipSwimSwoosh · 03/01/2021 22:40

I would not stick to that, no way. I am training for a half marathon so need at least 2 hours. How could anyone know?

matronyoshka · 03/01/2021 22:41

@Yohoheaveho is that actually a serious suggestion? Good Lord, I hope 2021 is the year in which people stop thinking they can tell each other that their normal, healthy behaviour isn't allowed. I have a 'nice big garden' and I also have a rescue dog (working border collie) who needs hours of exercise and stimulation each day. She'll get as much exercise as she needs and anybody who disapproves can piss off. As I said upthread, I've seen 3 people since my workplace sent us to work from home last February - I've done my bit, in my opinion, to my own detriment.

Oh OP you silly woman. Of course you’ll ignore it, of course you will. I bet you bought one of those lanyards off amazon as well so you can cough all over Tesco.

What an idiot. I feel sorry for your DC being cursed with such an abomination of a mother.

Do you really think these are equivalent?

Going for a 2hr run in a quiet area poses no real risk to anyone as distancing is likely to be very easy, and outdoor transmission is very low; going into a shop full of people without a mask is not only against one of the actual rules, but also poses an obvious potential risk to others.

Some people seem to have taken leave of their senses over this. Just listen to what you're saying!

Me too.

God, if my dds ever thought typing something like that on SM was acceptable...

Charlie63849 · 03/01/2021 22:42

@Yohoheaveho

If you have a nice big garden you're not allowed to go out at all if you live in a flat go as much as you want That should be the rule
Batshit 😂
Fingfoxes · 03/01/2021 22:42

Lung strength and capacity is a key factor in surviving covid, so restricting people's ability to undertake vigorous exercise or placing a time restriction on it is daft.

Making people walk laps around housing estates with thousands of other people is also daft with a new highly-contagious variant.

There should be no time limit and a short drive should be allowed (as was finally agreed to in the first lockdown the guidance that you should not drive for longer than you walk - that seems sensible).

Hippopotas · 03/01/2021 22:42

Maybe if everyone stuck to the rules in place then the issue wouldn’t be as bad as it is.

GrandTheftWalrus · 03/01/2021 22:43

@RaspberryCoulis I live in South Lanarkshire and it's massive. So I can go anywhere in it. However I can see glasgow from my window and I'm not allowed to go there. Makes no sense.

I never stuck to a "1hr rule" either. We walked for hours.

Of course I was being facetious but the underlying point is that being confined to your home it's a very different experience if you are wealthy can afford your own gym facilities etc

Going for walks in the countryside does not spread Covid.
ThatDamnKrampus · 03/01/2021 22:45

If I recall (and my brain is slightly alcohol addled currently) wasn't the guidance:

One exercise outside per day but with mo time limit on that exercise?

EndemicPanda · 03/01/2021 22:45

Haha. No. I wear my mask when I'm in the shops. I just don't see how me going and spending as much time as I like in the local woods and parks, where I keep away from everyone, is going to make the slightest difference to virus transmission.

Sandsnake · 03/01/2021 22:46

I certainly won’t limit my exercise this time, even if it’s mandated. We’re semi-rural and very close to lots of walks with barely any other people around.

Ellmau · 03/01/2021 22:46

How would they possibly enforce it? They can't even police the rules they have now.

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 03/01/2021 22:47

This is sensible guidance I think. I exercise from home mostly and occasionally drive a short distance if desperate for a change of scene. In all cases, I exercise for as long as I like. Me spending 5hrs up on the largely empty moors is not a danger to anyone.

NoWordForFluffy · 03/01/2021 22:47

I won't stick to the mythical hour either. I often go to the allotment for 4+ hours at a time in most weathers. Not today though as the ground was frozen, so it wasn't worth trying as I don't want to damage the soil.
