It's all over fb that our local primary schools are closing tomorrow. My son is in nursery so I'm assuming that will follow suit. He will be so upset as he's been so excited about going back :(
We're in Lancashire. This happening anywhere else?

In our area the LEA has left it up to the HTs.

Hurtandupset2 · 04/01/2021 09:31

SE, tier 4, no email yet but there was a FB post from the school yesterday saying that they'll be open for online and key worker dc as of Tuesday 5th and will open properly to yr 11 and 13 on Monday 11th, and to all other years in Monday 18th, which was the plan they decided upon last week.

Hurtandupset2 · 04/01/2021 09:31

Hurtandupset2 · 04/01/2021 09:32

This is secondary though.

Frazzled2207 · 04/01/2021 10:40

Stockport, greater manchester.
Apparently opening as normal tomorrow
I'm surprised.

Our cases locally are similar to what they were in early November. But if things escalate I suspect many parents (myself included) will pull the kids out.

Appuskidu · 04/01/2021 10:45

@AlwaysLatte

I really don't understand how the decisions are made. Our two boys' schools are closed - south east in tier4. But I see others in the same area are open!
It’ll be down to available staffing.
HeadIsFucked · 04/01/2021 11:02

Ours was off for teacher training today, so was obvious it would change now the councils back them like. Last school in the area to 'fall' but seemingly falling the hardest so far as..ther schools have said 2 weeks closure. Ours is indefinitely. First I have seen admitting that among friends! 2 weeks IS probably optomistic mind thinking about it.

Luckily ours is still open for keyworker kids/vulnerable, as most round here are closed 'properly', to everyone. Expect ours will now become a keyworker hub again, which seemed a bit counterproductive last time tbh

Onceuponatimethen · 04/01/2021 11:23

NEU saying 6,000 primaries in the non closed areas are not open today

stovetopespresso · 04/01/2021 11:27

west sussex here, school closed till Friday, hinted its due to staff availability

Blubellsarebells · 04/01/2021 11:27

Not a peep from our primary.
Banner on the website saying open.
No email.
I couldnt get through on the phone this morning to authorise my sons absence.
Sent them an email.
No reply.

drspouse · 04/01/2021 11:39

DD school only open for KW/vulnerable "this week" i.e. from tomorrow (today was supposed to be a school day), just sent round the link to say if your family includes a KW.
DS PRU will be doing lateral flow tests which is reassuring.

JudesBiggestFan · 04/01/2021 11:52

I work for a large urban police force. I've just been to a meeting where they said both domestic abuse and child abuse are at the highest levels ever recorded for the force. Huge, dramatic increases in both. And that's just recorded cases.
I do wish those clamouring for school closures would think for one second about the lives of unmitigated misery some children will be condemned to, with no chance of escape.
Lockdown is the bluntest of instruments, with catastrophic consequences for many, many people.
The thought of those children locked up with their abusers makes me want to weep.
And the idea of any of those children being home-schooled'...as if. And yes, I know the most vulnerable should be at school, but it just doesn't happen in practice and kids fall through the cracks.
Not to mention kids in special schools...my nephew is autistic and his regression since March is startling. He rocks in a corner if his parents suggest he leave the house. His school was closed completely between March and September. He's had to be dragged in since then.
Our most vulnerable citizens, let down and abandoned. Schools should be left open...happy for fines to be lifted for those who have good reason not to send children in.
Vulnerable children to receive home visits and strongly encouraged to attend. Those who can afford catch up tuition and have the capacity to teach at home can then keep their kids off, making it safer for everyone else.
Not perfect, but better than full closures.

HeadIsFucked · 04/01/2021 12:06

Near all the schools here have closed totally this time. No keyworker provision. No vulnerable kids. Nothing. I am almost hoping ours turns into a hub again, though it means putting loads of kids together again Hmm I find the thought of NOTHING for those who really need it so awful.

christinarossetti19 · 04/01/2021 12:13

Our most vulnerable citizens, let down and abandoned.

Yep. This is the role of social services with properly trained and experienced child protection specialists and social workers, not teachers and TAs.

Where are social services in all this?

Frazzled2207 · 04/01/2021 12:14

@HeadIsFucked
Is this in England? I don't know how they can go about not offering KW provision. If they really can't/won't and you need it your council should be able to help.

christinarossetti19 · 04/01/2021 12:15

It might be an INSET day...

Appuskidu · 04/01/2021 12:16

Which area are you in that is offering no KW or vulnerable provision at all?
HeadIsFucked · 04/01/2021 12:19

Yeah england. I am wondering if they are not offering it specifically because there is going to be the 'hub' again? I thought it sounded mad, but had so many friends who work in multiple areas that cannot afford staff off, many NHS, massively kicking off as been told, no, and no help basically.

Last time around, as I said most shut and our local became a massive hub (looking at it, seemed busier than before, but maybe their actual issue was staff shortages all round, rather than 'fear' as such? So pooling the kids and having more teachers worked) so possibly thats the plan. Though not sure how much area the hub covered, I have people 20 mins drive away saying there is no option at all for them through this. Wouldnt have thought ours would cover distances like that..unless other hubs are being setup. But seemingly parents are not being iformed about any plans for hubs, just..sorry, no Hmm

I dont personally need help, we can deal. Its friends who cannot, if something doesnt give that I am worried about, aswell as the potential for making he NHS even worse than it currently is by having more staff off!

HeadIsFucked · 04/01/2021 12:20

North east. No mention of hubs earlier, but just checked again now and they did an announcement 30 mins ago that ours IS going to be a hub, for about 20 surrounding areas. So thats probably it. Was massively worried there like.

christinarossetti19 · 04/01/2021 12:21

It's probably because school leaders, like everyone else in the country, don't have a clue what's happening.

You said on another thread that the school has an INSET day today, so they wouldn't be offering any childcare provision anyway.

There will be a plan, as soon as school leaders have the information that they need to make one.

HeadIsFucked · 04/01/2021 12:21

I should say, I live really rurally, places here are proper sparce, so 20 areas might sound horrific to many but its really not. It did, last time at least, seem busier then usual though as I said. 'Applications' are open from anyone who thinks they qualify in all surrounding areas they say.

HeadIsFucked · 04/01/2021 12:23

Yeah was inset day today. Not sure if that was all over or not though..know it was ours. Calmed significantly now, seemed fucking horrid at first!

Panickingpavlova · 04/01/2021 12:23

our council Tory have sort of intimated there are no fines at the moment but also mention looking at each case and those shielding etc .

HeadIsFucked · 04/01/2021 12:29

Oh wow, got their shit together at amazing speed here. Now also announcement stating they have arraged for breakfast and random food items to be available for people who cannot get a school place but are low income to help them. Impressed. Guessing this is one of the most eventful inset days they have had, fgrom the sound of the speed of things!

nevernotstruggling · 04/01/2021 12:46

Plymouth - only heard of two primaries not opening. Ours is open. My school is in a large academy chain and they are all open in primary.
