It's all over fb that our local primary schools are closing tomorrow. My son is in nursery so I'm assuming that will follow suit. He will be so upset as he's been so excited about going back :(
We're in Lancashire. This happening anywhere else?

HappyNewYear
Staff did not necessarily catch it over Christmas. I caught it at work before the end of term (I'm NHS in fact but timings still apply). DH then caught it from me towards the end of my isolation period (right on the 14 days if I recall) so he's still in isolation this week. If he was a teacher he couldn't work.

NHS staff were at work all over Christmas plus other key workers. If any teachers live with (married to, live at home, flat share) these people they could have caught it off them.

It's bizarre you'd suggest they are to blame.

Bookworm65 · 03/01/2021 21:10

I'm in the North West. It's business as usual in my school.

november90 · 03/01/2021 21:13

Our nursery have just announced they're open because they are not led by the teachers union and they have little advise otherwise! I think there might be a review on it all tomorrow? I'm glad my son can go in for some play tomorrow at least.

Thinking of all the staff at all of the schools. I desperately want my son in pre school for his development, but I completely support the staff and their right to be kept safe. It's such a horrendous position. They should be an absolute priority for these jabs!!!

Surrey here, tier 4 and had an email today that primary will be open and all children expected in unless considered extremely vulnerable. It’s quite a heavy handed ‘we expect your child back’ and I feel quite disappointed.

DataColour · 03/01/2021 21:13

Northwest here too. We got a back to school tomorrow email.

frizzyandfrazzled · 03/01/2021 21:18

@Pastanred

lancaster rate now is 250

lancaster wc 10/10/20 - 358 so was actually higher then

If you drill down by postcode this was the university areas. Now it's in the wider, non student, community. I don't know if they should or shouldn't open, it's the worst situation imaginable but noone should have to work and feel unsafe (yes this includes NHS staff who were also let down) I firmly blame the government for not putting more in place in the months and months we have now had in this crisis and tbh think we going full tier 4 plus school closures within days.

Not all academy schools are part of a MAT.

The original question was clearly about a MAT as a SAT wouldn't have multiple headteachers.

Does anyone know who makes the decision in academy schools? Does the academy trust decide or do the headteachers?

cdtaylornats · 03/01/2021 21:22

I trust the NEU will be paying your salaries.

Char2015 · 03/01/2021 21:23

Early Years Alliance have written to Gavin to say they are not happy at Early Years being excluded from plans regarding re-opening. They are due to meet with DfE officials tomorrow.

twinkletoesimnot · 03/01/2021 21:24

Many schools here in Norfolk closing to all but key workers and vulnerable children.
The county council are in support of this too.
This has been handled so badly.
Teachers should not have to make such obvious public health decisions off their own backs!!

Willyoujustbequiet · 03/01/2021 21:24

North East here. Just heard one of our local primaries has decided to close - with the support of the council who is leaving the decision up to the schools.

Merinocool · 03/01/2021 21:25

Ours is in as every teacher has agreed to go in. Some of the other schools around us are not opening tomorrow.

pennylane83 · 03/01/2021 21:28

So if the government are now going to have to step up the furlough scheme a gear or 3 to account for the huge numbers of working parents that will be forced back onto furlough as of 9am tomorrow morning, where do the unions think the money is going to come from to assist them in making schools more covid secure 🤔

yawnsvillex · 03/01/2021 21:28

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot

Reading schools mostly closing.

Any others in Berkshire?

I am a TA tested positive on Xmas Eve. My isolation ends midnight tonight, just in time to go in to school tomorrow. I most definitely caught it at school. I left school at 3.30 on 17th December and did not set foot outside my house until I went for my test Xmas Eve. DH wfh, both dc’s bubbles had burst and both had been at home since 2nd December working online. We have supermarket deliveries. Apart from dh going out for a run a few times a week none of us have been anywhere or seen anyone.
RobinRedford · 03/01/2021 21:30

I’ve only heard that one school will not be opening here tomorrow, most of the other schools were due to go back Tuesday and Wednesday And as of yet opening is planned as normal, but that may change.

Dd is in a (very) small independent college and assuming she’s back in tomorrow as as we haven’t heard otherwise, even though the main college is closed (Larger numbers).

Were in Northamptonshire tier 4.

OrangeBananaFish · 03/01/2021 21:30

Sorry not read the full thread.

North Yorkshire here, not heard anything yet BUT they have an inset day tomorrow so not due back until Tuesday anyway. There is still time for the email. I have seen various reports on FB that a lot of Co. Durham and Teesside primaries are closing (I'm near the border). Although Co. Durham and Teesside are both in tier 4, whereas we are in 3 so not sure if that means anything.

DD2 is aware that there is a chance she may not be going back just yet.

Ihatefish · 03/01/2021 21:32

West mids - email saying school reopening as local rates are much lower than they were before nov lockdown. But will be kept under review.

LoLo2020 · 03/01/2021 21:32

Lancashire here, my child's school is closed bar key worker and vulnerable children.

Eggsley · 03/01/2021 21:33

@TammyTwoSwanson
@hedgehogsarecosy

I'm in Northamptonshire too, DS's primary is due to open on Tuesday as planned, there's a planned inset day tomorrow. I'm not aware of any schools closing locally, we are south Northants, tier 4.

Rockbird · 03/01/2021 21:36

Surrey and my school and dd2's school still open. Oh and stop with the Tory crap. We're not all like that. Hmm

SunshineOutdoors · 03/01/2021 21:39

York tier three just had email to say dc’s primary only open to key worker and vulnerable.

twinkletoesimnot · 03/01/2021 21:43

@pennylane83
It's not really going to make a difference what they spend money on.
They won't even give schools money to pay for extra paper towels or antibac spray, so they're not going to throw money around to make them 'Covid secure' anyway. Schools have been chronically underfunded for years.

Littleposh · 03/01/2021 21:54

And for those of us that don't live in 'happy ever after', schools need to be open.

Open your eyes to the world that exists outside of your own little bubble, people that need to work, that have to work, children that aren't so desperately in need that they have external help but still NEED to be in school. Imagine all those people in a world unlike your own that need this.

You. Are. Not. The. Only. Important. Ones.

Keep your kids off if you want but let us sensible folk carry as we must do

Timeturnerplease · 03/01/2021 21:54

Well the money wasn’t forthcoming from the government clearly, so far short of robbing a bank....
