Retired nurse willing to vaccinate... but..

So I've rejoined the temporary register and looked at joining nhsp so I can vaccinate.

They're expecting me to complete online training (all of which I've done before when employed) which I know is about 2 days worth before they will proceed with application.

About 90% is irrelevant.

Feeling very fed up.

It’s about the bigger picture though isn’t it? The NHS runs in an archaic manner a lot of the time, there are reams of paperwork for everything and policies about writing policies. Some of it is required but lots of it could be stripped out to make things more efficient and ultimately more cost effective. People should be paid a fair wage to work and paid to train if you need to do it to get the job done safely. Culturally it has become accepted that people will do more for less if not free in the NHS and that then sets a precedent for everyone within the organisation. Obviously it is a global pandemic and this changes the landscape but the change should be streamlining and common sense. A nurse with 40+years experience should surely be able to sign something to state they feel adequately trained to patient face and deliver the vaccine under a PGD this covers everyone’s bum and means we can crack on.

Volunteer as a steward instead then. No need to do the online checks, or offer to help your local high school with testing their pupils. I’m doing this tomorrow and Thursday and Saturday too. All for free!
Or offer your services for a vaccine trial. My hospital is currently recruiting for the imperial trial. They’d love a retired nurse. It’s a bit time consuming with appts for screening, the actual jabs, bloods etc , weekly tests (at least that is the case for me in the Oxford trial) but no on line courses to do but you do have stuff to read and consent forms to sign (loads of them)
There’s loads to volunteer for if you really want to do it.

Op, what device do you use for MN? I het you can use that to do the training. I did it on PC, didn't run to get a laptop.

I understand there's a lot of paperwork but after reading the article yesterday about the dentist who wanted to do it, I think it's crazy. There's a module on radicalisation - I teach in adult education and we do a full term on radicalisation/county lines/British values to ensure our students spot any potential signs but also we look for those signs in our students who we see weekly... surely someone willing to administer an injection shouldn't have to go through that amount of paperwork when they're going to see someone for all of ten minutes.

Hats off to all those who have put themselves forward to administer the vaccine - we really applaud your efforts Thanks

An iPhone.

I've tried... won't work. I have 2 friends finding the same thing

Tried updating phone... made no difference.

I’ve done most of the training - still got Safeguarding children level 2 to do. It’s taken me days and days. I have an apple iPad and each assessment has been freezing for hours.
Some of the training was on a different format, specifically the vaccine training. Whizzed through that and thoroughly enjoyed it.
But for some reason safeguarding children is just freeze, freeze, freeze.
