Why is Eton trending on twitter

Why is Eton trending for not re-opening next week: isn’t that because it’s in Tier 4? Rules apply to all schools in Tier 4, whether state or private?

.....that Eton is responsible for the high coronavirus stats that Slough had last term. Apparently one of the boarding houses got infected and a load of the boys then got it.

Eton isn't in Slough. It would be under W&MBC not Slough.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 03/01/2021 15:04

@ShaunaTheSheep

Is Windsor in Slough?

No, Windsor & Maidenhead

Looks equidistant between Slough and Windsor on the map You do know the virus doesn't get out an AtoZ or google to check political boundaries?Hmm
Ellmau · 03/01/2021 15:09

Unless there are lots of non resident staff who live in Slough, that seems unlikely. The pupils and resident staff would go in the Windsor stats.

Bert2e · 03/01/2021 15:10

@KirstenBlest

Eton is between Windsor and Slough, but in Windsor & Maidenhead Borough Council, not Slough BC. Windsor is about 2 miles from Slough.
Bits of Eton college are in Slough BC
KirstenBlest · 03/01/2021 15:11

Which bits?

KirstenBlest · 03/01/2021 15:13

Ah, yes, Dorney Lake. Teeming with coronaviruses, obvs.

Pyewhacket · 03/01/2021 15:13

@KirstenBlest

Which bits?
My thoughts too, which part then ?
user1471565182 · 03/01/2021 15:14

People are aware a virus can travel?

user1471565182 · 03/01/2021 15:16

“That is what most people in the country have thought about the Tory party for decades. I know a lot of Tory MPs and I am sad to say the public is basically correct. Tory MPs largely do not care about these poorer people. They don’t care about the NHS. And the public has kind of cottoned on to that.”

-Dominic Cummings.

KirstenBlest · 03/01/2021 15:16

It all started from Eton tennis courts and Dorney Lake and all the boys hanging out is Slough. How did I not see it before.

princessandthedragon · 03/01/2021 15:35

@Thewiseoneincognito

It’s trending because hardcore lefties have spotted a new way to attack the ‘system’ and the upper classes. Watch as this starts to spiral, it won’t end with Eton it’s just the start. Trying to push the clear disparity between the classes to suit their agenda under the cover of the pandemic.

It’s mostly smoke and mirrors and subverting the truth but those who see Eton and a possible class difference will jump on the bandwagon and hey presto, more bollocks.

Also I’m seeing a lot of chatter about news coming out soon that may change things drastically, perhaps this is a distraction.

Exactly - any excuse for a bit of Tory bashing. Imagine if Corbyn had got in. Do they actually think he would have handled this any better?
KirstenBlest · 03/01/2021 15:42

@EveryDayIsADuvetDay, Eton town is nearer to Windsor than Slough.
Eton boys (pupils) are I would imagine, quite unlikely to wander under the M4.

The figures are based on where you live, and very little of Eton College is in SBC. There are maybe 15 dwellings that are in SBC, and these are likely to be occupied by teaching staff. As the road they are on is in RBWM, the addresses probably come under RBWM.

For the purposes of reporting cases, it does! Eton College is in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. Not Slough (with the exception of a handful of houses).

jessstan1 · 04/01/2021 00:52

It's quite nice around there too, like being in a country town but very close to London.

Not that that has anything to do with Eton.

MerryChristmasToYou · 04/01/2021 11:18

It is nice around there.

Slough is not the best but the view from Upton Court Park is spectacular. Herschel Park is worth a look. If you are walking from Slough to Windsor, which is about 2.5 miles, you can walk by the Jubilee River and through the Playing Fields.
