Email from Head - primary school will be open on Monday

Just had an email from our head teacher 'reassuring' us that the (primary) school will be open as usual to all pupils on Monday morning. Personally, I find this far from reassuring in the middle of the worst part of a pandemic. We are in a county that borders London and rates are over 600 per 100,000.

I'm assuming the staff are either non NEU or have agreed to go in anyway? How can the Head be SO sure they'll open, as to actually write an email on a Saturday night saying so?

Yes - because if it’s a ‘school by school shambles’ they can blame the schools.

Gertie75 · 02/01/2021 22:40

I'm in the Midlands too and have had a text reminding us that Monday is an inset day and school reopens on Tuesday.

Is there definitely an official announcement due? I haven't read any news today so am a bit behind.

AppleKatie · 02/01/2021 22:41

Hard to tell with this govt. but it’s entirely possible they will let it go to the wire and school/by school chaos will ensue.

Poor leadership.

phlebasconsidered · 02/01/2021 22:42

Well, all the staff at my school had a very pressuring email telling us to come in. I will go in because I don't have a choice but I am going to ask if I can at least wear a mask. We were told we are staying open until there are not enough staff left. So once we're all ill, we can close. Reassuring, isn't it?

Sickofthiscrapp · 02/01/2021 22:42

@pinglepongle
What official announcement tomorrow?
Please clarify..

SeldomFollowedIt · 02/01/2021 22:45

I don’t think many will stay off? SLT will make your lives hell can you imagine?

KeysDontBelongInTheFridge · 02/01/2021 22:45

@phlebasconsidered I’m pretty sure the same thing will be happening in my school

itsgettingweird · 02/01/2021 22:45

Well that's premature.

Unison have only just directed their members in the last 10 minutes the same as NEU.

Same thing - letter and rights and have legal right to safe working environment.

That will cover all the non teaching staff.

Ltdannygreen · 02/01/2021 22:46

I’ve not heard anything yet, dd8 is due back Tuesday as they have inset day on Monday, suspect they will leave it until the last minute like everything.

Lifeispassingby · 02/01/2021 22:46

The government have a difficult time on their hands. As soon as they failed to provide evidence to the 19 London boroughs they basically failed to prove schools were safe. Schools in Tier 4 should be shut at least

TheGreatWave · 02/01/2021 22:48

It is an absolute shambles now. The government, the unions, the schools, the whoever need to stop all this fannying around and get something sorted, one way or the other.

In terms of childcare I have no skin in that game, but this ridiculous carry on is dreadful for teachers, children, parents and by extension their employers.

Emmelina · 02/01/2021 22:49

It’s probably in response to a trillion emails from parents asking what’s happening I’ve been on the laptop planning today and tried to ignore the emails sent to my class email, but there are many!

unicornparty · 02/01/2021 22:49

We're tier 4 and had an email saying our primary will be opening as planned on Monday.

BangingOn · 02/01/2021 22:50

@PinglePongle

Our school (Midlands) have text all parents to confirm closure ahead of official announcement tomorrow
Whereabouts and/or which tier are you?

Our school has been very reassuring that they will stay open until they are told to close- it’s an independent school who really doesn’t want to upset the parents. They have allowed parents to home educate with the support of the school where either the children or family members are ECV so are doing their best to try and keep everyone happy.

PinglePongle · 02/01/2021 22:50

We're Tier 4 but no where near to the closed school areas, not sure if official government or school announcement tomorow its not clear from the text but our school tend to stay open e.g the Friday before Xmas

BangingOn · 02/01/2021 22:51

Staff have also been allowed to wear masks and visors, so they are trying to do their best by the staff too.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 02/01/2021 22:51

We’ve had an email from my dc school saying they’re looking forward to seeing children on Monday as planned.

My school has also sent something similar out. The Head hasn’t asked staff what their plans are...

Viviennemary · 02/01/2021 22:52

If folk aren't happy then just don't send the children to school. What's the problem. I doubt anyone will be prosecuted.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 02/01/2021 22:52

Tier 4 also.

TheGreatWave · 02/01/2021 22:52

Well that would be sensible if the tiers were not largely politically motivated and were actually based on a scale of cases. Also my tier 4 area borders a tier 3, many teachers will live and work in the two different tiers (going either way).

^cant you just say you are not well ????

Cecilia2016 · 02/01/2021 22:54

We are in tier 4 and my son’s school is open on Monday. We had email from the school 2 days ago

I agree. It's not an option for me I will be sENDing dc back on Monday and if school closes they will attend as parents keyworkers but if I didn't work I would keep them off

TillysMum02 · 02/01/2021 22:54

tier 4 ....local mp is hoping to convince government our schools and nurseries should ALL close

bluechameleon · 02/01/2021 22:56

My head has sent two separate emails to parents today, setting out first one plan then a different plan. Neither plan is likely to actually happen based on what I know about the number of teachers likely to submit their letters tomorrow, and she knows this so I don't know what she is up to.
