That's good. It's more their teachers I'm concerned about.

MuseumGardens · 02/01/2021 16:45

And their older or vulnerable family members

Jrobhatch29 · 02/01/2021 16:45

That was good to read

Tootsey11 · 02/01/2021 16:46

Well Im watching Channel 4 news, just listened to a female hospital doctor who states the complete opposite. She says they are seeing a clear rise in children and young adults, those who were classed fit and healthy now in intensive care.

Nappyvalley15 · 02/01/2021 16:49

Was this the paediatrician speaking on the radio earlier today? Very reassuring with regards to the threat to children.

Tholeonagain · 02/01/2021 16:49

Thank you for posting that

WouldBeGood · 02/01/2021 16:50

@MuseumGardens to be honest, I wasn’t thinking about schools. More that I was glad about the children’s health.

Let's hope this calms down some of the panic and hysteria.

Tootsey11 · 02/01/2021 17:06

So the doctor on the news just now was lying then?

Tholeonagain · 02/01/2021 17:09

Which doctor where?

Tootsey11 · 02/01/2021 17:18

Watch the channel 4 news on plus 1. Should be on about 5.45 or shortly after. Doctor from hospital, the last part of the interview by the news man was the increase of children hospitalised, she confirmed it.

WouldBeGood · 02/01/2021 17:22

I’ve also seen this now. Some reassurance is nice.

I think some increase in children hospitalised is to be expected given huge increase in cases and the fact that they have been mixing more than other population groups. The statement above from the RCP is reassuring - was it made today?

WouldBeGood · 02/01/2021 17:29

Yes, today. Also they retweeted this

Thanks @WouldBeGood

That nurse was absolutely out of her depth - she should not be making statements like the one she did. Nurses are qualified enough to be speaking on this matter without prior authorisation. Sorry but it's true. I say this as the family member of someone who is a nurse. She ought to be disciplined.

I agree with you
Jrobhatch29 · 02/01/2021 17:59

I mean, I think nurses are highly skilled and amazing. Loads of our friends are nurses, they are brilliant at their jobs. I just dont think anyone in any job role should be giving statements like that without context or data to support

Satsumatrifle · 02/01/2021 18:01

Is he who he claims to be? Surely an educated person would know to write 'bears'?

WouldBeGood · 02/01/2021 18:02

@Satsumatrifle he is. He was retweeted by the Royal College. It’s a typo.

He’s very measured, not in a camp.

Twitter doesn't have an edit function, so the odd typo does slip through. He has been commenting consistently since the start of the pandemic, and very much is who he claims to be.
Satsumatrifle · 02/01/2021 18:06

Anyway, children getting more seriously ill with those new variant is the least of our worries, the nightmare scenario we don't have to think about because what we have is quite bad enough.

More children getting the virus (no longer protected by a biological advantage with a virus that is now 50 percent better at transmitting anyway) with mean more children becoming ill and needing medical resources.

Whether this is a small proportion of the total number ill is not hugely relevant if that proportion still amounts to a very large number.

Satsumatrifle · 02/01/2021 18:07

Fair enough re typo if he's legit!

WouldBeGood · 02/01/2021 18:08

I think children not becoming seriously ill is very good news.

There’s no agenda. It’s just good
