Also from an Infectious Diseases / Virology Clinician & Scientist:

evidence suggests that B.1.1.7 is more transmissible overall, which means more transmission across all age groups. But there is no evidence so far to suggest that it favours certain age groups more than others.

The issue, as I see it, is not that children will get ill, but that they spread it.

@Tootsey11

Well Im watching Channel 4 news, just listened to a female hospital doctor who states the complete opposite. She says they are seeing a clear rise in children and young adults, those who were classed fit and healthy now in intensive care.
Watched that segment a few times over. She said, "younger people". She did not say children.

Watch from just over 12 mins in if anyone wants to see it for themselves.

Thanks for posting this. The RCPCH have also responded officially here:

We should publicise this as widely as possible to reassure parents when might be alarmed reading twitter or scaremongering threads on her.

FourSeasonsTotalLandscaping · 02/01/2021 18:37

This is comforting to see - I was really really anxious about this last night.

NaughtipussMaximus · 02/01/2021 18:39

Me too, @FourSeasonsTotalLandscaping! I spent all night fretting.

Ginlovingmumof4 · 02/01/2021 18:42

I LOVE a picky tea - they’re the best! Can only get away with it once in a while as DH thinks it’s not a proper dinner! 😜

WouldBeGood · 02/01/2021 18:42

@NaughtipussMaximus yes, I agree, it needs to be spread. I’m quite cavalier but was bit worried about kids.

Let’s spread the word

As a parent of 2 primary school aged children I feel some relief, however DH and I are mid 40s secondary teachers and I worry about our heath - I want to be able to care for our children.

Chosennonesneakymincepie · 02/01/2021 18:55

This is reassuring.
I don't want myself or DH to get ill or die. Not at all. But the thought of it affecting the DC is much more of a concern.

VenusTiger · 02/01/2021 19:02

@WouldBeGood and pps - did you also see my attachments above - I can provide direct links if you prefer??

WouldBeGood · 02/01/2021 19:12

Yes, thanks @VenusTiger

Something else I've seen many times on Twitter these evening - looking into the Matron's background (who made the "worrying" and false statement on Radio 5) she's a Labour activist 🤦🏼‍♀️ it's disgusting that a virus has become a political football!!! It enrages me!! It's like the nurse selling ppe and going on the news to say they hadn't received any!!
I despair - but luckily I don't watch terrestrial TV/radio.
