All to delay opening.

Yea please don't be jealous of keyworker provision - by all accounts it was not very good - and I am being polite.

ottertail · 01/01/2021 20:17

Primary schools were "shut" for 14 weeks not all year.

Also from June they were open and teaching Nursery, Reception, Year 1, Year 6 and keyworker children.

JassyRadlett · 01/01/2021 20:17

Yes, friends have already been informed that any children at school will be supervised by non-teaching staff.

At least it will be there though so that frontline workers can go to work. Imagine the case where schools closed and weren't able to put anything in place for key workers. That particular spiteful post you're referring to says a lot about the poster as a person.

I'm putting plans in place for my t4 area to have primaries closed just in case and suggest others do the same.

JassyRadlett · 01/01/2021 20:21

Let’s be honest - some weren’t doing that. For example, ours didn’t reopen at all to Reception and was closed to all, including key worker children, on Wednesdays. And used the fact that some children were back at school 4 days a week to halve the provision for the majority of children (all but Y1 and Y6) altogether, including cutting all teacher feedback. I’m aware of others who similarly left out whole years.

I’m aware that some schools were brilliant. But let’s not pretend that all reached those standards, or will this time around.

ANewDawnANewDay · 01/01/2021 20:21

Keyworker provision at DC school is sitting them at a computer to access the online lessons the rest of the kids are doing. And a few cover teachers to oversee.

Sad for the kids not jealous at all.

Mumofsend · 01/01/2021 20:22

@ANewDawnANewDay not at DDs school it wasn't. Differnet schools had different approaches

ANewDawnANewDay · 01/01/2021 20:22

Cover staff rather

Whiskeylover45 · 01/01/2021 20:24

I was messaging my grandad wife earlier who expressed suprise at me going back to work on Monday in a school. I told her it was just London ATM but there is still time. (In tier 4) Maybe 8pm on Sunday evening?

Oh well at least they get to speak to other children.

And my DD completely refuses to engage with home learning so those kids in school are already ahead of her.

CallmeAngelina · 01/01/2021 20:31

"And my DD completely refuses to engage with home learning"

How is that the school's fault? It's probably something you should be addressing.

ByersRd · 01/01/2021 20:33

Whilst the children worthy of an education thanks to their key worker parents get educated and socialised. This is disgusting

It isn't about whether children are worthy...
It's because KW are keeping the country going...

Bloody stupid to have doctors and nurses at home with their children and people dying ( and yes, I work in education I know the selfishness of people who claimed their job in retail (clothes shop??) was essential.

Covid is definitely bringing the worst out in people!

It's not just key workers keeping the country going. Everyone currently working is keeping the country going with their taxes.

Barbie222 · 01/01/2021 20:36

Time to work on shifting her mindset, then, and setting a good example yourself.

Mumofsend · 01/01/2021 20:36

@CallmeAngelina its not as simple as just addressing the issue. Mine is autistic. Her brain literally can't allow her to blur school and home.

Barbie222 · 01/01/2021 20:36

@Waxonwaxoff0

Absolutely. But the key workers we really need in London now are the medical staff.
OnlyFoolsnMothers · 01/01/2021 20:37

It's because KW are keeping the country going clearly didn’t see the last key worker list, included workers in finance, people I know who work from home from a laptop not saving lives in hospital

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/01/2021 20:39

Barbie of course, but we also need to have the money to pay for those medical workers.

Some jobs save lives and keep us fed and transport running but all jobs are critical to the economy.

I couldn't really argue with the key worker list. The jobs are necessary, yes even finance / bank jobs. That's why I also think it needs it be 2 key workers per family - although that wasn't officially mandated, most areas seemed to ask for this.
NeurotreeWenceslas · 01/01/2021 20:43

@OnlyFoolsnMothers

Our nursery hasn’t had one case- no you don’t shut them!!!!

Mine had several including 8 staff over 2 weeks.

CallmeAngelina · 01/01/2021 20:45

@Mumofsend, I really do sympathise, but my post was to formerbabe, who has made some pretty unpleasant accusations about schools, teachers and the Key Worker system about perceived preferential treatment.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 01/01/2021 20:45

The jobs are necessary, yes even finance / bank jobs by that token all jobs are necessary. We all need to focus in our roles to keep them

formerbabe · 01/01/2021 20:46

I know plenty of key workers who work from home, who during the initial lockdown kept their children at home but as time went on, eventually sent them back...so clearly didn't need the place. And now I know key workers who are debating whether to send them in or not...if they have a choice, then they don't need the place. It's a system which is being abused and creating a two tier system.

formerbabe · 01/01/2021 20:47

I didn't say anything about schools or teachers Confused

Yes, I did see it. Yes I had to apply it to parents who tried all ways of cheating the system. Yes I agree the definitions are broad and allow for selfishness. A tighter criteria would make my job so much easier.

However, the government compiled the KW list, you need to write to your MP to complain.
