I fucking knew it. Second vaccine dose.

News is that people who have had first dose are only getting second 3 months later. Against the guidelines of the org who made the vaccine.

I said this rush to push it out would result in, how are they going to follow up and make sure they get the second?

And here we go. Second dose not organised. UK govt say this is AOK.

FFS. I'd rather they took the time to do it properly. But hey. Pissup in a brewery situation again.

I said a few days ago to DH. Are they properly tracking this to make sure the follow up jab isn't missed?

I was too optimistic. Govt have decided second jab isn't that important.

FFS.

@daisypond agree elderly mid 80’s independent living CEV relatives not been called yet. 2 million a week needed to contain this (alongside T4) is pie in the sky.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/01/2021 14:35

If people were asked a year ago would our Government go against trial data in a national crisis people would scoff

Actually no; I recognise it's a volatile situation, but the picking and choosing of data and the lying is exactly what I'd expect of any of them (and FWIW I also accept I've perhaps had too much experience of politicians)

MushMonster · 01/01/2021 14:35
@cathyandclare yes it’s hoped the vaccines will limit spread but as yet there’s no data and if you’re a betting person the mRNA are likely to limit spread more than Oxford.
This approach will not provide accurate data of the effect on transmission either, will it?
Not in community settings.
As NHS and carers still have to work, the data of transmission in hospital settings should be ok. To be compared with places where pfizer's vaccine was administered as per original instructions. And we will see if there is any difference.
But in community transmission, we will not have data. Because people will still be SD.
Or am I wrong here?

BBCONEANDTWO · 01/01/2021 14:36

@daisypond

I know loads of people in their late 80s. No one has been offered the vaccine yet. I only know health care workers who have had it.
Same here - my 87 year old uncle not had it yet - but saw on Live with Jooles Holland last night that 80 year old Tom Jones has had it - figure that one out!
toolatetooearly · 01/01/2021 14:40

I agree it must be annoying for those who have already had the first injection (my mum, who is 82 and has had the first, is definitely annoyed!). But emotion aside, the logic in delaying jab no.2 to roll out lots more of the first one make total sense to me.

countrygirl99 · 01/01/2021 14:40

@AldiAisleofCrap actually the many more is largely made up of the extremely vulnerable. The only GP practice in the town where my very elderly parents live has not received a single dose yet and doesn't know when they will.

Lordamighty · 01/01/2021 14:42

I know a few over 80’s who have had the first dose of vaccine, none of them are rich famous singers. It’s just a lottery at the moment, no conspiracy, people aren’t jumping the queue.

Oaktree55 · 01/01/2021 14:45

@MushMonster I would hope there’s a “trial” or perhaps monitoring is a better word being set up whereby say 10k people on Pfizer trial dosing and 10k people on Gov amended dosing are compared. It should be easy to choose a randomised cohort. At least for future dosing as required and to give info on vaccine effectiveness to U.K. variant etc.

Em777 · 01/01/2021 14:45

The Americans are not doing this and their numbers are as dire as ours. The Europeans are facing massive shortfalls of the Pfizer vaccine and they’re not doing it either.

yup, my totally normal and not-rich-or-famous 82-year-old mum had the vaccine a week before Christmas. She didn't jump any queues, she was just given a date to go in for the jab.
Honeyhoops · 01/01/2021 14:45

I live in the North East, near Durham. My health authority are currently vaccinating the over 80s. My dad (81) had the first dose yesterday and has an appointment for the second on the 21st Jan, so 3 weeks later, which I think is the correct guideline? My aunt has also had the first dose and another aunt and uncle (both 90) are due to get it.

It seems to be being rolled out quickly in my area, there was a constant stream of elderly people in/out the walk in centre while I waited for my dad.

It seems hospital admin staff are also being vaccinated so I assume the front line medical staff already have been.

Yet!!
SchnitzelVonCrummsTum · 01/01/2021 14:49

Depressing to read people moaning that their GP surgery hasn't 'pulled their finger out' and vaccinated their relatives yet.

I realise you are worried but huge numbers of surgeries haven't received any vaccines yet. DH's was told 21st Dec, then 4th Jan, then told possibly the 7th but could be delayed again.

Piles and piles of patient calls and complaints. What are the surgery meant to do other than continue to hassle those in logistics in the hope that some eventually arrives?

When it arrives, they will receive enough to do about a third of their over 80 population. So they have been told to prioritise the care homes. But this will mean another swathe of complains and recriminations.

They literally can't win.
**@IrmaFayLear* I am frankly ASTOUNDED and very, very angry at all the selfish fs on here, wanting full immunity for them/their parents at the expense of quite a bit of immunity for many more
But the many more are able to safety leave their homes wearing masks and SD , and if the many more get Covid they are very unlikely to be seriously ill or die. This has been done once again to protect the economy. More vulnerable people will now due but the hospitals will be less full with people who would have made a full recovery.
It’s making an 80 year old wait for full protection so a healthy 52 year old gets a vaccine sooner.
It’s not making an 80 year old wait for full protection so a healthy 52 year old gets a vaccine sooner. It’s making an 80 year old get some protection so that another CEV 80 year old can have at least one dose. Lots of CEV people, elderly or not, haven’t had anything yet.

Oaktree55 · 01/01/2021 14:49

I think people need to keep an eye on supply. It’s not the tents/army/volunteers that’s the issue it’s the actual vaccine itself. There’s a long long way to go and communication on this fact is poor especially by the likes of Sunak.

SchnitzelVonCrummsTum · 01/01/2021 14:50

@Honeyhoops - it's such a lottery by postcode. DH's surgery is in a nearby county to yours and lots of surgeries have received no vaxes at all.

No it really isn't.

There are approx 6 million in the first two cohorts (care home residents and their carers, 80+, NHS staff.)

This is about making one 80 year old wait so another 80 year old gets a vaccination sooner.

fussychica · 01/01/2021 14:53

Insufficient vaccines available, and apparently likely to be for sometime, so get frontline NHS staff done so we can reduce the numbers off sick with Covid or isolating before there isn't anyone left to care for the sick and if you want schools to stay open as a priority get the teachers inoculated too.

Can't see the 2mill per week happening anytime soon or perhaps just anytimeSad

psychomath · 01/01/2021 14:55

@Em777

Those countries also haven't approved the Oxford vaccine yet, so maybe we shouldn't use it at all if those are your criteria.
Oaktree55 · 01/01/2021 14:56

Agree. The communication with public is appalling. Expectation management needs an overhaul. Everyone is thinking Easter and that’s based on 2m a week!

Honeyhoops · 01/01/2021 14:56

I rang the Covid booking number to rearrange my aunt and uncles appointment and queried why they had to wait longer than my dad who is younger than them and not shielding. I was told they are currently working through the over 80s and whether you're 80 or 102 makes no difference in terms of priority.

LizB62A · 01/01/2021 14:57

IF the vaccination had been tested with a twelve week gap between first and second jabs, people wouldn't be so concerned.
It's the fact that the government seem to have made yet another knee-jerk decision without (it seems) checking with the vaccine provider first....

In our area they've started on the over 90s already then will do the over 80s after that.
But they ran out of vaccines so no idea when my 80+ dad will even get his first jab

Honeyhoops · 01/01/2021 15:02

@LizB62A

From the posts on here it there seems to be big differences depending where you live. You would think there would be an agreed protocol to stick to nationally (made public) which would make it fairer and avoid confusion.

When I rang I was told they had now ran out of vaccine but expected to start booking people in again within 2-3 weeks.

I agree. My CEV lymphoma patient DF has heard nothing yet but we have been specifically asked not to chase the GP surgeries and so we are sitting on our hands and waiting. The thought that people are phoning to whinge and complain and that some are talking of suing is unbelievably self-centred.
