News is that people who have had first dose are only getting second 3 months later. Against the guidelines of the org who made the vaccine.

I said this rush to push it out would result in, how are they going to follow up and make sure they get the second?

And here we go. Second dose not organised. UK govt say this is AOK.

FFS. I'd rather they took the time to do it properly. But hey. Pissup in a brewery situation again.

I said a few days ago to DH. Are they properly tracking this to make sure the follow up jab isn't missed?

I was too optimistic. Govt have decided second jab isn't that important.

FFS.

I’d be furious. If you consent to a drug that’s approved to be used a certain way I think it’s appalling that after taking it you this is changed. That’s not what you consented to and the manufacturers have pointed out there isn’t any testing of this approach. I understand they want to speed up the roll out but that mustn’t be at the cost of efficacy and safety.

boredsolicitor · 01/01/2021 03:30

It's supported by medical advice to increase protection scope more quickly. I think it's a good move for the reasons given

NiceGerbil · 01/01/2021 03:33

Yes I heard the defence on the news just now.

It's bollocks. They know better than the company who made and tested the vaccine? Uh-huh.

I knew they'd fuck it up. It's so soon though.

It’s this government. It wouldn’t be them if it wasn’t a total and complete fucking cock up.

Mummyoflittledragon · 01/01/2021 03:56

I’m wondering if these people won’t even get the second dose and will then have to start again with the Oxford vaccine. That is the vaccine, we would have enough doses for if it can be packed and dispensed in time. For me, it’s a gamble, an experiment.

user1471565182 · 01/01/2021 04:00

This is fucking endless.

MrsMiaWallis · 01/01/2021 04:06

I'm really sad about this. My poor PILS were so excited. They were supposed to have 2nd dose next week.

LadyJaye · 01/01/2021 04:09

I wouldn't trust these arseholes to organise an orgy in a brothel.

It's Tucker's Law, innit?

Pyewhacket · 01/01/2021 04:26

You’re the one talking bollocks. People are already getting their second dose.

VashtaNerada · 01/01/2021 04:48

It’s ridiculous isn’t it? I have friends who are doctors who are equally frustrated. They’d much prefer to give the second dose as planned and then move on to the next group of patients. There’s just so much risk of ‘losing’ people in the system if they delay the second dose now.

Whydoelephants · 01/01/2021 05:01

I actually think this is a rare wise decision. I think those who have had the first dose are very very lucky compared to the extremely vulnerable older people and frontline staff who are risking their lives every day caring for Covid patients who haven’t yet had a dose. Surely it’s much better for those to have a bit of protection too rather than a very small group having total protection and others having none?

EmmanuelleMakro · 01/01/2021 05:12

Does this mean that people who are already scheduled for the second dose -ie appointment arranged will have it cancelled?

Furries · 01/01/2021 05:12

FFS - the second jab isn’t being missed. Much better to get more people vaccinated with first jab. The second will still follow.

Six months ago it was “there will never be a vaccine” and now it’s “everything has gone to pot, I’m waiting for my second dose”

Obviously I’m paraphrasing, but fuck me - are there still people who don’t realise how fortunate we are to have science on our side? Yes, all fed up, totally get it. But we are moving towards better times.

Athinginitself · 01/01/2021 05:50

It seems like a really good rational decision for me. People wont be missed they are just being offered 2nd appointments a few weeks later. Better that we vaccinate as many people as possible with the first dose, giving a good level of short term protection. I dont agree with appointments being cancelled, it's a waste of nhs time, but think anyone receiving the vaccine from now on should have a longer interval.

lovelemoncurd · 01/01/2021 05:55

Calm down dear! It's going to be given. It's better for us all to get more people vaccinated. Or do you want to keep socially isolating and mask wearing forever?

namechangefail2020 · 01/01/2021 05:55

Try and understand it before going all crazy eyes about it. And have a stiff drink

leafygarden42 · 01/01/2021 05:59

@Athinginitself

Oh righto - are you a doctor? Or maybe a scientist from Pfizer?

No?

Maybe the OP is completely and utterly correct and everyone else is talking bollocks.

If it's such a fab idea why has the BMA strongly advised against it?

Humpty11 · 01/01/2021 06:04

I agree that it’s better to have more people vaccinated with the initial jab than to have half of the people vaccinated with the top up too.

It’s not a cock up, it’s the fact that 3 weeks ago I don’t think they realised that we’d be back up to the point of 50,000 new cases and nearly 1000 deaths for the last couple of days, whilst the NHS continues to battle with covid and non covid related admissions; with many hospital declaring major incidents and patients being transferred out of their area to receive treatment.

Of course it’s upsetting for people to have their appointments cancelled but maybe this is for the best. They still have some protection from the initial dose and there’s also talk that the Oxford vaccine can be given as a second dose.

I think the more people vaccinated with 70% protection the better. Flu jabs are 60%(ish) effective and in the majority it prevents serious illness and admission to hospital. 🤞🏼

Athinginitself · 01/01/2021 06:05

@leafygarden42 The link is broken, but as I said I dont agree with appointments being cancelled but do think delaying the 2nd dose going forward is a good idea. Being an anonymous forum means it doesn't matter what career I have in the real world and am entitled to my informed opinion. Ta

leafygarden42 · 01/01/2021 06:07

@NiceGerbil There is no point in arguing with such idiotic people, who all think they know better.

People are thick as fricking mince - make no mistake on that one. And the people at the top of the chain -Boris Johnson I'm looking at you - you big fucking twat - really does top them all off.

Enjoy the shit show that is January 2021 - what with Covid 19 (and Brexit) - and having locked down waaaaaay too late - NHS beds will be overwhelmed by Jan 14th. Guaranteed - no matter what the idiots do with the vaccine/s.

Happy New Fricking Year

leafygarden42 · 01/01/2021 06:10

@Athinginitself you are entitled to any opinion you like - of course.

Please excuse my ranting as it is not personal to you (unless you're Boris) but I agree wholeheartedly with the OP. My profession is nursing, and I have been doling out drugs to people for the last 30 years. It is BETTER to follow the manufacturer's guidelines - then the drug works BETTER.

SuperbGorgonzola · 01/01/2021 06:12

The BMA appears to object on the grounds of logistics and causing upset to people expecting their second dose, not on the grounds that giving one dose only renders it ineffective.

I also think that the decision is a good one.

Mincepiesallyearround · 01/01/2021 06:22

I think it’s the sensible decision and many countries - especially poorer ones - will do this. The existing data shows the bio in tech vaccine to be v effective from one dose, the second only increases the protection by a few more %. I saw some reports on the data in the New York Times that some countries may just do the first dose and not the second at all, so they can vaccinate more people quickly.

louisejxxx · 01/01/2021 06:22

Haven’t the MRHA approved this new approach? They were talking about it at the press conference detailing the Oxford-Astra Zeneca approval the other day.

lovelemoncurd · 01/01/2021 06:23

For all we know the GPs may be objecting because they won't receive their £10 per vaccination until both doses are given. It wouldn't be the first time doctors have been up in arms and said it was due to patient care whereas in fact they were more worried about their own financial situation!
