According to Dr John Campbell's latest video, 1.9% of the UK population now vaccinated.

Btw cev shielding Dh had his flu jab this year standing on his doorstep by a sort of flying paramedic in conjunction with our gp practice. These things can happen! Grin

Standing on our doorstep. Not the paramedic's! Grin

Inastatus · 06/01/2021 22:32

@tobee, a flying paramedic - so cool! It’s all sounding vv positive 😊

tobee · 06/01/2021 22:42

Flying as in moving about a lot Grin. Think he had a motorbike. Not a helicopter. Or wings. Sadly. Grin

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 06/01/2021 22:45

I’m sure the motorbike converted to a helicopter when needed, you just weren’t looking.

tobee · 06/01/2021 22:53
Grin
Inastatus · 06/01/2021 23:06

@tobee I know what you meant but honestly helicopter, motorbike, tuk tuk whatever it takes! All super heroes 😊

TeaInTheGarden · 06/01/2021 23:15

I really hope there is lots of positive press coverage of this in the next few weeks.
Loads of reports showing these mass vaccination sites etc.

Love the idea of drive through vaccinations! Just like the testing sites. Roll down the window, stick arm out of window, needle in arm, done!
(Can even park up and sit for 15 mins for the “observation time”?)

tobee · 06/01/2021 23:19

Yes yes deffo!

BigWoollyJumpers · 06/01/2021 23:19

We are allegedly getting a drive through at our cathedral which would be very cool. Drive up the hill, stop at the top, outside the main doors, quick jab overlooked by a 15 ft Angel. Off you go.

tobee · 06/01/2021 23:19

👍

BigWoollyJumpers · 06/01/2021 23:23
@cathyandclare do you need medical training to volunteer? I would love to get involved but not medical at all!
Our local health board has advertised for marshals. 4 hour shifts on your feet, in all weathers, I'm thinking of offering to help 😁

tobee · 06/01/2021 23:38

I suppose they couldn't have hired people before if they weren't sure when vaccines would be done.

Aberforthsgoat · 07/01/2021 00:03

Is there any positive news about the new South African strain? I don’t fully understand it and am trying to stay away from sensationalist threads or news outlets but my understanding was that if the vaccine doesn’t work against it, it can be tweaked - which sounds more hopeful than some of the things I’ve seen written about it.

As this is the hub of good news I thought I’d ask if someone wiser than I had any info :)

TeaInTheGarden · 07/01/2021 00:12

Patrick Vallance discussed it at the last briefing. He said they are checking at the moment whether the vaccine will work. But mutations are normal and they expect to have to tweak the vaccine in the coming years, like they do with flu. He didn’t seem particularly worried about the SA variant, and I think he said if vaccine was affected it might just mean it was less efficacious.
I took it as “it might not work as well, but hopefully will still help” but I may have heard that wrong (I like to hear the positives...!)
He did say the vaccine can be tweaked quickly and easily though, so that’s positive.

tobee · 07/01/2021 00:12

I've heard it is likely to work. As the efficacy for all 3 vaccines is so good that we have "headroom". I will look for a link

tobee · 07/01/2021 00:12

X post

Blerg · 07/01/2021 00:14
Coronavirus Good News tweeted an hour ago with reassurance about the vaccines working still for the U.K. and South African strains. Looking good thank goodness!

This study has analysed CoV2 variants (including UK and South African) for likelihood of current vaccines failing. Author concludes ‘confident current vaccines will be useful for quite a while’.

@Aberforthsgoat there was this info linked a bit earlier in the thread on the SA variant. I don’t seem to be able to quite the link. But it was page 18.

I have keeping an eye out on this because initially it made my heart sink. In the press conference yesterday it was discussed that tweaking the vaccine wouldn’t be too difficult or time consuming if needed.

Awesome

3 Morrisons car parks will have drive through vaccinations starting on Monday - Yeovil, Winsford and Wakefield. Morrisons have offered 47 other carparks too.

BigWoollyJumpers · 07/01/2021 09:15

Another interesting location locally is McClarens Head Office. They have been vaccinating for a couple of weeks already. Apparently they are very speedy 😂

Aberforthsgoat · 07/01/2021 09:22

@Blerg thank you! Apologies I must have missed it earlier, so much good news it’s hard to keep up. What a lovely thing to be able to say in the current climate :)

I saw some good news on another thread - a lady with a severe allergy has had the Oxford vaccine. I have a severe allergy so was worried I wouldn’t be able to have the jab when they reach me (under 40 and low risk so a while!) after the problems with the initial jab and allergies but this sounds really positive.
Another poster also commented the same, and there was an article about it which I’m trying to find to link to.
I’m thrilled that I hopefully will be able to have it at some point now.

sashagabadon · 07/01/2021 09:24

70% of staff will have been vaccinated where I work( large hospital trust) by the end of week. Pretty good going Smile
