So here's mine:
I look after my niece one day a week and last week it happened to fall on the day our grocery delivery was due, it arrived without my dogs food and we'd run out that morning, so loaded my DD and niece (6 month old and 1 year old) to the supermarket, literally went in, both girls in pushchair so she wasn't running wild, grabbed the dog food and headed to the till, she'd been very good so I grabbed her a individual packet of chocolate buttons as a treat from next to the till, only for the lady behind me to tut and say 'that's not exactly essential shopping is it! Idiots like you are the reason we're in this mess! You should be ashamed of yourself! Then again what do we expect from girls like you that have nothing better to do than keep popping out kids for the benefits!' 😂 I love people's assumptions!

  1. Only 1 is actually mine,
  2. Both girls we're planned and very much wanted,
And 3. I'm 26 and married 😂 I loved the look on her face when I turned round and informed her 'and I'm pregnant again!' 😂

What a strange man. How would he have known what the Journeys were for?

Singing80s · 01/01/2021 11:46

Ridiculous one way system in the St Enoch’s shopping centre in Glasgow which means to exit the building (from the car park) you need to be ushered via multiple high viz “COVID staff” through the toilets! Ladies and gents being duly separated through says toilets. If my OH was not there I would have taken issue with being separated from my son for this ridiculous purpose.

Singing80s · 01/01/2021 11:47

said* toilets

110APiccadilly · 01/01/2021 12:11

I'm not sure if I'm amazed or terrified that at least two other workplaces feel the need to stop us congregating in a toilet.

(Unless we all three work in the same place, I suppose!)

ReadySteadyBed · 01/01/2021 12:38

@GrapeLipBalm

Our local police Facebook page (Tandridge) posted in the first lockdown about a man who'd driven his dog to his local park to walk it. Obviously must have a lot of time on their hands.
This type of thing was just nuts. People argued such things as these were terrible in case the driver broke down and needed AA assistance 🙄

People got so caught up with the rules they forgot the whole idea was people didn’t mix.....

Took my DD to a theme park in the summer when it was open- they had done an excellent job with limiting numbers and cleaning the actual rides etc. I did notice that the actual metal queuing barriers did not seem to be getting wiped down though, even though the rides themselves were being stopped for regular cleaning. The number of people who would run their hands along the barriers, lean on them etc, but the worst thing I saw was a young lad (maybe about 8 so mask not compulsory for that age) take off his face mask for a bit, then run the inside of the mask along the top of the barrier. His parent watched him then told him to stop messing about and to put the mask back on (!). All I could think about was that he was now wearing any potential germs from the barriers so close to his face. Yuck. Also the number of people in general (in shops etc) who eye up a queue then try to push in or walk to the front as if everyone else is just there for the fun of standing in a line and don't actually want to be served.

People completely going over the top about the rules. Elderly neighbours have a static caravan in Cornwall. They’ve been down there for a month or so. Our area went into tier 4 from tier 2 on Boxing Day and the caravan park owners knocked their door and told them they had to leave as they’re now from a tier 4 area 🙄. 80 years old, driving 4 hours home in the storms!

BonnieDundee · 01/01/2021 14:00

My work put stickers on all the rooms with how many people could be in a room at once.

We have this at work (NHS). Office along the corridor from mine is a small crowded office with too many staff in it. They were told they cant have the max number on the door as there are too many people in there anyway so everyone and anyone wanders in at will Xmas Grin

I bet they felt so much better for everyone clapping on a Thursday night Xmas Hmm

FoxinaScarf · 01/01/2021 14:13

People making up stuff on MN along the lines of how they are a teacher/TA/ITU staff and how everything is fine and we must prioritise things like children's birthday parties and anyone saying anything else is a dementor.

For what it's worth I am the Queen of Sheba...

AfterSchoolWorry · 01/01/2021 14:33

Someone on here started a thread fuming that science had misled us and that masks didn't work.

She had seen a video of someone breathing out vapour while wearing a mask, vapour of course exited out of the sides of the mask.

The poster was furious that masks were not airtight. 😂

EmmanuelleMakro · 01/01/2021 14:35

Local care home bans family and friend visitors. The asks on Facebook for volunteer visitors to sit and talk to residents. As they are lonely because not allowed to see family and friends
Xmas Shock

Al1langdownthecleghole · 01/01/2021 15:48

So I have an extra, up-to-the-minute example.

Have literally just had a txt from family member we saw xmas day on his way to work. (Tier 2 at the time before anyone asks). He Has just tested +ve for Covid and was told to tell us that we would need to isolate for 10 days.

All fine except that the message was to isolate for 10 days from today when we last saw him 8 days ago. I’m still trying to bottom out who exactly gave him that message - it’s notT&T - but surely someone has misunderstood the guidelines somewhere.

RaiderOfTheKitchenCupboard · 01/01/2021 16:05

A woman told me off for walking my dog off the lead in March because she’d heard that dogs could spread the virus. Even if that had been a possibility, I was in the park with my dog and there was nobody else there. She’d crossed the road to have a go at me over the hedge.

Presumably they're trying to be topical or deliberately raise a smile with that.

Your relative was on his way to work? What when positive?

You are right though. 10 days from contact.

Al1langdownthecleghole · 01/01/2021 16:43

No, tested +ve today. That's why I'm so bemused as it's more likely he picked it up through work.

Seems the tester told him to speak to everyone he had contact with over the last 10 days. That bit is fair enough, it's the isolating for 10 days from today that makes no sense.

My other half who "doesn't believe" in it while simultaneously believing it's a manufactured method of mind control

darksideofthemooncup · 01/01/2021 20:25

I work in a supermarket, this last week has been wall to wall with entire families doing their shopping. I have no issue with one parent having to bring their young children with them, but mum, dad and two sulky teenagers lolloping about seems very very stupid and selfish. We have one 'security guard' on the door who counts people in but he isn't in a position to stop it, and I don't think he should have to. We all know the rules, we all know that shopping should be done quickly and alone where possible but apparently this doesn't apply to some people

ichundich · 01/01/2021 20:29

People on MN demanding we keep all cats indoors because they might have Covid.

I've been lucky enough not to have encountered a COVID-sceptic (yet). So does he think it's entirely made up, or just exaggerated? Does he not know anyone who's had it? What does he think the reason was for making it up?
Gingernaut · 01/01/2021 20:41

The weird thing people have about pulling their masks down TO HEAR BETTER.

Purpler5 · 01/01/2021 20:44

The stupidest thing I’ve encountered is:

Gavin Williamson

darksideofthemooncup · 01/01/2021 21:04

Oh and another one, my partner is a bus driver (not TFL) he contracted Covid, highly likely from work as a numbed of his colleagues also did, one died sadly. He only got SSP when he was off work (which he was legally bound to do) and wasn't eligible for the £509.00 top up as he doesn't claim any benefits, this was just before Xmas.

He has said that many of the other drivers were saying that if they thought they had Covid, they probably wouldn't take the test as they couldn't afford to be off and lose 2/3rds of their wages for two weeks.
This is a council subsidised bus company, putting money ahead of people's lives.

darksideofthemooncup · 01/01/2021 21:04

£500.00 , not £509.00 !
