So here's mine:
I look after my niece one day a week and last week it happened to fall on the day our grocery delivery was due, it arrived without my dogs food and we'd run out that morning, so loaded my DD and niece (6 month old and 1 year old) to the supermarket, literally went in, both girls in pushchair so she wasn't running wild, grabbed the dog food and headed to the till, she'd been very good so I grabbed her a individual packet of chocolate buttons as a treat from next to the till, only for the lady behind me to tut and say 'that's not exactly essential shopping is it! Idiots like you are the reason we're in this mess! You should be ashamed of yourself! Then again what do we expect from girls like you that have nothing better to do than keep popping out kids for the benefits!' 😂 I love people's assumptions!

  1. Only 1 is actually mine,
  2. Both girls we're planned and very much wanted,
And 3. I'm 26 and married 😂 I loved the look on her face when I turned round and informed her 'and I'm pregnant again!' 😂

The woman who left her flat to buy a takeaway coffee from the delicatessen opposite her flat and was told by a police officer to go home again as it wasn't essential and she was old!

And yes, the post on here about using cheese if you ran out of milk.

That you could catch covid from a park bench. Or even better; from your shoes (presumably because you handle them taking them off and you might have walked over a patch of ground with the virus on it)

People moaning about social distancing in shops, if I momentarily walk closer than 2m past your back the virus will leap from me (despite mask wearing) to your back and crawl around to your face and up your nose.

All the moaning about virus shedding joggers - and the person who was convinced she'd caught covid from a virus shedding jogger but never came back to update us on whether her test was positive.

Oh and all the people who allegedly never went out, at all, yet managed to catch covid from a letter/parcel they received.

And the idiots who went to beaches, left tonnes of litter and peed and defecated everywhere. Nice.

@2tired2bewitty

Not the stupidest thing, but it does amuse me how football players and managers carefully avoid shaking hands at the end of a game, do the whole elbow bump thing, then go in for a little hug anyway 🙄
And F1 - lots of standing on socially distanced disks and then hug everyone afterwards. What's that about?
bumbleymummy · 31/12/2020 17:14

Yes, apparently rural stile are one of the main transmissions sites. What are MNers doing to stiles, licking them?

This made me properly LOL Grin

spoonrace · 31/12/2020 17:24

The use of the terms 'face rags' and 'face nappies' for masks. I just skip reading the post if I see it as they're clearly dim.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 31/12/2020 17:26

@TheDogsMother

A woman ranting on in the queue for the Co op this morning. Apparently we aren't seeing any tv footage of hospitals now because they are actually empty. The government is deliberately making everyone panic.This whole thing is hugely hyped up apparently. Pathetic.
This and stuff about the plandemic, scamdemic, Great Reset, Bill Gates and microchips in vaccines and 'they' are all in on it Hmm
110APiccadilly · 31/12/2020 17:27

Popular cliff top walk had signs up reminding people not to be so enthusiastic about social distancing they fell off the cliff!

I'd like to think this was unnecessary, but given the number of people who jump into roads to avoid others, I'm not sure it was.

grassisjeweled · 31/12/2020 17:30

Inviting guests over to the house and then insisting on all the windows open. In December

IrmaFayLear · 31/12/2020 17:35

Went for a walk at the beach (not a scenic one) in the early summer and found the council had roped off all the car parks “due to COVID-19” Confused . Consequently everyone was annoying the natives by parking in residential roads.

mrshoho · 31/12/2020 17:36

Pretty much every single idea that Gavin Williamson dreams up for schools. Each time he unveils a new plan I think it's the most ridiculous thing ever and then he goes and beats that with something more ridiculous.

itsgettingweird · 31/12/2020 17:36

Lockdown 1.

Take da to Tesco. Queue. Sanitise hands. Halfway up escalator ds sneezes and his
Nose bleeds.

I have tissues and wipes and plastic bags.

Take him to toilet to wash hands.

To be told they are shut and they won't let me use another sink for "hygiene reasons" due to covid.

And yes, DfE and specifically Gavla.

Raaaaaaarr · 31/12/2020 17:40

I'm not getting over the mum at the school gate that felt the need to hug another mum a couple of weeks ago (not consoling just a 'hi' type hug). I instantly wrote her off as a complete idiot. Harsh but I can't help how I feel. I have lost any respect for her - totally ignorant behaviour. I had been warned that she seemed to not get the social distancing thing and then saw that happen. Poor teachers are begging for social distancing at the gates each morning. I actively find reasons to walk away from her if she approaches now. Won't be a problem anytime soon as schools are now closed ! Hmm

Beccasb · 31/12/2020 17:43

The Barnard castle incident. Clips were replayed on a podcast I listen to rounding up the year and it’s just unbelievable knowing what people were going through at the time

EllenRipley · 31/12/2020 17:56

@TheLeastBit
Oh god I'm so sorry you had to go through that 😟 Jesus.

In answer to the original post, I think the mass extinction of critical thinking is the stupidest thing. And Boris Johnson being in charge.

stoneysongs · 31/12/2020 18:04

People on here not believing what is happening in ICU at the moment and attacking a doctor for talking about?

Yes, some spectacular logic and arrogance on display on that thread.

Also Dominic Cummings, followed by the cabinet being trotted out to defend his eye test.
Poor Gavin Williamson is obviously not the brightest bulb in the chandelier.
Thread after uninformed thread about the vaccines not being safe.

georgiamag1 · 31/12/2020 18:05

Me I'm stupid ! Went to the shop earlier and was going to wear my hat so I put my mask on first to get it round my ears then put my hat on. Pulled it down under my chin for the walk to the shop. Got to the shop completely forgot about mask until I'd got back outside and realised what I'd done.I must have looked like a complete dick.

WestendVBroadway · 31/12/2020 18:09

During the early part of first lockdown I was paying fir shopping at suoermarket. The man behind had a toddler who was sucking a lollipop , she put the licked lollipop onto the conveyor belt. The dad told her not to do that as it was dirty, he then promptly put it back in her mouth. Also a lady sat on park bench, another lady sat on other end of bench and remarked on the first lady wearing gloves. She replied it was more hygienic as you never know what germs are on things you touch. She then proceeded to eat a bag of cherries with her dirty gloved hand.

MrsRockAndRoll · 31/12/2020 18:10

@Char2015

Oh another thing...

A week or so after lockdown began, my GP advised me to 'shield' as my asthma was and still is unstable (about 6 months prior I became really unwell with my asthma following a chest infection and has remained really bad). Basically the GP changed my diagnosis from mild asthma to severe asthma and I was given stronger treatment. My GP sent a letter/evidence to my manager advising them about my asthma diagnosis and that I should not be at work as the public health advice for those with my condition was to 'shield'. My manager responded to me saying he wasn't accepting this letter as he didn't believe I had asthma first of all and even if I did it's not bad enough. I work for the NHS but I am not clinical neither is my manager. It was shocking he wasn't accepting my GP advice and that he was making his own judgments about my health. He told me that he expected me in work. My GP couldn't do anymore as he had the evidence that I should be shielding. In the end my GP signed me off with anxiety as that was the only way he would accept me to me to be off and he was actually increasing my anxiety to the point I ended up on meds. I was signed off for a while and he had the dates of my absence period but yet he demanded I contact him every morning telling him I wouldn't be at work. In the end, my GP sent him a personalised note telling him his actions were excessive and that they would support me in a tribunal case as he was not accepting shielding advice and was excessive in their treatment of me whilst sick. He then came back to me once he received my note telling me I shouldn't be speaking to my GP about him and that I had no need to discuss my anxiety with them.

Stupid is probably not the right term to use in this example, but he really was a bully during this time.

Shocking!

@Char2015 have you complained about your manager?

kessiebird · 31/12/2020 18:11

A few weeks into the first lockdown a friend asked me what I was doing for the Easter weekend and made the mistake of telling her I'd organised an Easter egg hunt for my DC. Explained I'd already bought eggs in early March or collected them from my DMs porch just before lockdown. She didn't reply but instead launched into a tirade on Facebook "Easter is just another day so the masses should think about that before they descend on the shops to buy Easter Eggs, is it really worth it" followed by lots of angry emojis.
Imagine getting triggered into a rage by Easter eggs.

CoffeeCreamandSugar · 31/12/2020 18:14

Boris Johnson announcing live on TV that schools are safe as long as no households are mixing in them! Still pissed about that!

itsgettingweird · 31/12/2020 18:45

@CoffeeCreamandSugar

Boris Johnson announcing live on TV that schools are safe as long as no households are mixing in them! Still pissed about that!
He must have been pissed when he said it.

I'm beginning to think our government are so stuck on keeping schools open whatever because they're worried the next generation will be as thick a cunts as they are!

EveryoneRevealsThemselves · 31/12/2020 18:54

Inviting guests over to the house and then insisting on all the windows open. In December

To be fair, I’m not encouraging having people round, but If they are, having the windows open is absolutely recommended.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 31/12/2020 18:57

@grassisjeweled

Inviting guests over to the house and then insisting on all the windows open. In December
I would actually class that as sensible not stupid - if households are mixing indoors it's recommended to open windows so there is good ventilation.
Eileen101 · 31/12/2020 18:58

Milk and bread not being essential Confused

Masks covering mouths but not noses.

Someone on here said no one should be buying Easter eggs because they weren't essential - even mixed in with your regular shopping.

That stay at home meant you couldn't go in your own garden.

Hmm

I'm sure some people just enjoyed the drama.

Northernsoullover · 31/12/2020 19:05

Probably myself. Back in March going to the supermarket in a hat, safety goggles (yup) mask gloves and clothes over my pyjamas. I'd come home, dump the shopping get in the shower and put all my clothes in the machine.
I still have a cautious approach to the virus and believe in masks but the rest of it? Overkill. I did go quite crackers though and had to speak to my GP.

TornadoOfSouls · 31/12/2020 19:07
  1. The people who thought if you went shopping you weren’t allowed to buy anything ‘non-essential’ - although I’ll admit to being judgy about people going to the shops a few times a week instead of planning or using alternatives.
  2. The utter stupidity of everyone who defended that malign, cowardly liar Cummings. The even greater stupidity of those who think he is an exceptionally clever and able man who was needed to help the government respond to the crisis. I mean WTF.
