Or is it an extended holiday until 18th?

Learning

milkysmum · 30/12/2020 21:40

Learning online- awaiting email from school next week

RememberSelfCompassion · 30/12/2020 21:40

I thought learning....

WhenSheWasBad · 30/12/2020 21:44

I think the advice was online learning for exam year for the week commencing 4th Jan.

For 11th Jan exam years will be in school and taught. Online learning for all other years.

Everyone in on 18th Jan

DecemberStar · 30/12/2020 21:45

Exam years (generally 11 and 13) online learning first week, in school second week.

Other years may have online work first week (depending on if school can resource it), online second week.

sofakingg00d · 30/12/2020 21:45

Extended holiday - just online learning for exam years in first week.

Elephant4 · 30/12/2020 21:45

I hope so. You would think so. But GW didn't say so, did he?

Locally - and anecdotally - the word is that learning will not be online as the teachers are going to be setting up testing centres and will therefore be busy ...

Is there any actual information about this yet? I've looked on line - nothing in papers yet - gov information is confusing.

Our school has emailed to say lessons will be online until they go back on on the 18th. All schools were given an October deadline to have a suitable online learning setup so that any more closures or periods of self isolation would not disrupt learning.

Orangeblossom77777 · 30/12/2020 21:46

Exam year here revising for mocks mid Jan. Not sure we need more work tbh

theblueflowers · 30/12/2020 21:47

It depends on the age of the student. Only y11+13 next week it seems, and that is online only.
I'm a teacher and am wondering what we are going to do with the key worker children in other years, as (rightly so!) they will be in school...

Elephant4 · 30/12/2020 21:47

Is the plan that testing centres will be up and running by the times kids come back?

If so - who's going to be running these testing centres and how will all the testing fit around any learning?

VerbenaGirl · 30/12/2020 21:47

Ours will deliver online learning.

SecretBabychamDrinker · 30/12/2020 21:47

I took GW announcement that non exam years had an extended holiday while exam years did remote learning from the 4th.

Then from the 11th online learning for non exam years while exam years were in school

littlemisslozza · 30/12/2020 21:49

Ours has emailed to say that it will be online lessons for mine from next week. Years 7&8. Unfortunately I suspect it might vary from school to school.

Elephant4 · 30/12/2020 21:52

Thank you. I can see there's another thread about the same thing. Sorry I missed that.

Yes the plan (which may not equal the reality however) is for testing "centres" to be running so that children are tested as, or slightly before, they return.

Different schools are resourcing these in different ways.

noblegiraffe · 30/12/2020 22:03

The reason you don’t know is because the government fucked up and have already amended the guidance.

Originally it was online next week for Y11 and 13 only, then they realised they’d be breaking the law they themselves created so they’ve now said ‘and for other year groups too if resources permit’

So the answer to your question is ‘maybe’.

Monkeytennis97 · 30/12/2020 22:06

Yup. What @noblegiraffe said.

cheeseismydownfall · 30/12/2020 22:08

Guardian is reporting that secondary schools will not be delivering online learning for non-exam years next week. So that is how they have interpreted it.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 30/12/2020 22:13

The school I teach in has already emailed staff to say that we'll be teaching all year groups online next week, which is what I expected. Waiting to hear from DS's school but I'd be surprised if it wasn't the same for them as they taught online lessons throughout lockdown so will be ready to shift back online at a moment's notice.

ColouringPencils · 30/12/2020 22:14

It was very (deliberately) vague, wasn't it? Not helpful. I imagine our school will email about it.

SuperbGorgonzola · 30/12/2020 22:15

I expect most will be online learning for all from next week. Our school is likely to be doing that, as we were going to be online for the 6th 7th Jan any way to accommodate covid testing.

Movinghouse2015 · 30/12/2020 22:23

My DD wax due to be on exam leave the first two weeks of term, just in for mock A Level exams and an actual BTec exam.

She is in year 13. Would be helpful to have some clarity about the actual BTec exams. Feel so sorry for all students in exam years, the uncertainty is very unsettling for them.

Movinghouse2015 · 30/12/2020 22:37

Cactusowl · 30/12/2020 22:45

@Movinghouse2015 my DD is year 12 and has a Btec exam second week of Jan - I hope she gets some teaching before the exam as it seems to be forgotten that year 12 can be exam year too.
