The government at putting UK into full lockdown cases are rising rapidly and people are still dying why so much delay.

I don’t want to go into lockdown so anytime is too soon for me.

Cupcakegirl13 · 30/12/2020 07:45

I don’t understand the people continuously crowing for lockdown. The effects of another full lockdown on society will be far far more devastating than the small amount of excess deaths we currently have compared to this time last winter.

SycamoreGap · 30/12/2020 07:47

I suspect we will hear more today - they have been waiting for approval of the AZ vaccine as the good news story to run alongside the announcement of tighter restrictions / lockdown.

ivfbeenbusy · 30/12/2020 07:48

Lockdowns don't solve anything they just delay the inevitable

Clappingforjoy · 30/12/2020 07:48

Vaccine is going to take a long time to roll out they should lockdown until its fully available

Years then 🤔

Presume you're in a safe job then

Dogsandbabies · 30/12/2020 07:54

Echo the sensible view that lockdowns do not help. So hopeful the won't.

Yeah? That's exactly the point. Lockdowns were never going to (and were never meant to) eliminate the virus. It was only EVER to reduce transmission, reduce pressure on the NHS, and reduce deaths until the vaccine was delivered to the masses.

We're so close to that now. Seems pretty stupid to get this close to a mass rollout but let thousands of people die needlessly at the end.

Clappingforjoy · 30/12/2020 08:01

I understand the concern over peoples jobs etc but ideally this would be the correct procedure. Tier systems dont work. The last lockdown saw numbers go down drastically.

This constant baying for lockdown = baying and pleading for more ruin to our children’s futures. We are sleepwalking into a massive recession, huge unemployment, and government by dictatorship and brainwashing, with the total blessing of the public.

And this pleading for hell to become even worse belongs in the coronavirus topic.

Toomanyparsnips · 30/12/2020 08:06

"I understand the concern over people's jobs etc"you talk about this as if it's a side issue - it's not just a few jobs, it's people's ability to support, house and feed themselves and their families, not just this month but for the future too. A lockdown until the vaccine is fully rolled out will destroy the economy and many more people's lives than will die of Covid (and poverty will kill many more people than will die of Covid). The time for complete suppression of the virus was last February/March - it's too late for that now.

FippertyGibbett · 30/12/2020 08:07

I heard on the news yesterday that the Oxford vaccine has been in production for some time now. Therefore it should be ready to roll very quickly. As the flu season is virtually over the infrastructure is ready to kick in.

user1487194234 · 30/12/2020 08:08

Lockdowns don't work and ruin jobs and businesses
The only people I know in real life who support them are people in public sector jobs who are at home on full pay

SimonJT · 30/12/2020 08:09

The Oxford vaccine is being rolled out from the 4th January.

I’m interested in your economic plan for the UK to be in a full and strict lockdown for 12 months.

Have you noticed how many of those endlessly demanding lockdown all seem fairly "bqised" its all unemployed, or under employed roles who don't really give a stuff.

But then when you do basic office administration or low end manual labour I suppose one company is much the same as another and pension benifits aren't exactly tied in. If one goes bust move to another hey go

Do you have any concerns over your job?
Doingitaloneandproud · 30/12/2020 08:19

I don't want another lockdown, the negatives are huge. But if you would like to explain how you would have a lockdown and ensure the country won't incur more debt and unemployment, please do. Also what you plan to combat the domestic abuse figure that rose and the children's abuse figures that rose.
It's easy to call for a lockdown when you are in a safe house and safe job.

Quite. If you want to lock down, do it. Arrange a massive online shop (or click and collect), including loads of chocolate and wine, and stay in for a month.
yummyscummymummy01 · 30/12/2020 08:20

I don't think people in public sector jobs can be furloughed?
I think a lock down whilst they vaccinate the most vulnerable would be a proportionate response.

IndecentFeminist · 30/12/2020 08:20

How are you going to fund this?

Whatafustercluck · 30/12/2020 08:22

Nobody likes or wants a lockdown. This was always about protecting the NHS from overload by flattening the curve. I am filled with dread at another full lockdown in the middle of the shittiest time of year. But sadly I cannot see another way when you listen to the news and discover that Essex has declared a major incident with other areas likely to follow in the coming days. If you want the NHS to treat life threatening illnesses other than Covid, then we have to put the brakes on. And indeed op, I fear it's already too late. The biggest fear I have is not that someone I love will get Covid but that someone I love won't get the treatment they need when they need it because of Covid.

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 30/12/2020 08:22

Of course lockdowns work. People spread the virus to each other. If they aren't in contact then they can't spread it. Excess deaths are on track for 100,000, the numbers affected were doubling every few days in march so would have been so many more than 100k if we hadn't locked down. Countries that locked down earlier and harder have had much lower deaths than us. The NHS is almost at the point of being overwhelmed. And if it is, there will be no emergency icu beds. So if you dont want a lockdown because you think the virus wont affect you, you better pray you and your loved ones don't get in a car crash, have a heart attack, slip and have a nasty break when you're out walking, have a stroke, have an infection that turns into sepsis etc as with a half days delay getting to hospital and no spare beds, their chances wont be good

wanderings · 30/12/2020 08:23

Saint Boris’s magic money tree will only bear fruit for so long.

Clappingforjoy · 30/12/2020 08:23

Well funding is up to the government isnt it there is plenty of money in this country it just doesnt go to the right places
