Todays a good day 🌻

secrettwitcher · 30/12/2020 07:26

On the day more restrictions are likely to be announced and brexit happens 🧐 woohoo indeed.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 30/12/2020 07:27

So at today's announcement they can go with

"We are fucked. But not totally fucked and not as fucked as we could have been!" Grin

On a serious note, brilliant news and well done to the team behind it

Literallynoidea · 30/12/2020 07:29

Matt Hancock just tweeted that we have 100m doses, enough for everyone to get vaccinated.

That is seriously good news.

Bagelsandbrie · 30/12/2020 07:34

Fantastic news. They need to get everyone having their first dose ASAP - first dose alone gives 60% - that’s enough to stop the NHS being overwhelmed whilst they work on rolling out the second doses.

Right, just need to keep head down for a few more weeks, then can breathe again(group 4,before someone doom mongers that it will take years to vaccinate everyone, which it won't as they'll bang this out ASAP as it's the cheapest and easiest option, and we know how much politicians love those!)

leafygarden42 · 30/12/2020 07:36

Fucking Ace!!!!!

Thank you for sharing - love mumsnet

RememberSelfCompassion · 30/12/2020 07:37

Oh wow! Im group 6 and cant wait. Every week my kids are in school that Im not "done" I am so anxious they could live to have passed on something that might "kill mum."

Oh I so hope this speeds up the groips.

Sway19 · 30/12/2020 07:38

Incredible achievement by the world of science

itsgettingweird · 30/12/2020 07:40

I have to say when I woke and saw this it did make me start the day with a huge grin Grin

So,etching that's getting more and more difficult when usually I just think "where small I walk today?" 🤣

FourTeaFallOut · 30/12/2020 07:43

"It’s really important to note that within 21 days of the first vaccination, nobody was admitted to hospital with Covid or had severe Covid and that’s just after one dose – that’s after any one dose in these trials – no admissions to hospital, and that’s a really major result for public health benefits,” Prof Sarah Gilbert, who led the research at Oxford University, said at the time of publication of their full results."

No hospital admissions - that will do nicely.

nosswith · 30/12/2020 07:46

Very good news, the vaccine is the only way this will stop the virus being fatal for some.

PilatesPeach · 30/12/2020 07:46

Fabulous news - I start volunteering shortly at the mass vaccination centre locally - non-medical - but so pleased for everyone at this news!

Bagelsandbrie · 30/12/2020 07:47

I am so excited about this. I am in the extremely clinically vulnerable group and can’t wait to have mine. I have school aged children and a husband who works in healthcare and everytime they leave the house and come back again I’m convinced I’m going to get covid and become seriously unwell. Plus the fact I’m terrified to go to hospital for any of my health conditions which are un Covid related as I’m terrified I’ll get COVID. This will be a complete game changer for me and more likely to become quickly available at our local rural doctors rather than the other one that needs refrigeration to a ridiculously low level.

LittleFir · 30/12/2020 07:48

🥂🍾

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said that the gap between the first jab and the second jab will be extended from four weeks to 12 weeks to ensure as many people as possible can be vaccinated before Easter.
nutmegofconsolation2 · 30/12/2020 07:51

Thank god for that

ditavonteesed · 30/12/2020 07:53

Best news of the year, here's my arm get that baby in me.

HelloDaisy · 30/12/2020 07:53

Woohoo, fabulous news 😁😁.

Dh is clinically vulnerable which clashes with having teenage dc at school and running our own business so I am so relieved this vaccine has been approved.

Madcats · 30/12/2020 07:53

I've been listening on R4. I imagine Astra Zeneca made a stock market announcement at 7am. I was wondering why there was nothing on the news last night. It's made my day!

I think another contributor said that the MHRA have reviewed their advice and there can now be a gap of up to 12 weeks between the two doses. It appears a longer delay is better than the current 3 weeks.

So we just need to pray that our local health people are all set to vaccinate like crazy.

RememberSelfCompassion · 30/12/2020 07:55

Oh wow. By Easter!?!?! Oh thats made me happy. I was getting so anxious about icu beds and already my brain was imagining I might not get treated....

Just schools for me to worry about in the mean time but oh my goodness I feel like crying.

I still dont quìte get the efficacy. Ive asked before but wasnt sure. If its 90% am I still 10% likely to wnd up in hospital with full symptoms? Or likely still not to get it as strong?

RememberSelfCompassion · 30/12/2020 07:56

A friend's shared a volunteering add for marshals for the vaccinations locally. Oh ai so hope it rolls out fast.

RudolphtheRemaindeer · 30/12/2020 07:56

Fabulous news! I'm low down on the list of priority, but have an elderly parent and parents in law and this will mean they can start to live more normally again. On a more selfish note, my job depends on people being able to travel domestically and if this means they can do that, then hopefully my job is safe.

Science is amazing!

CeeJay81 · 30/12/2020 07:59

Am I the only one that can't get excited excited about a vaccine that could only be 62% effective. The vulnerable should have the Pfizer one at least.

LemonSherbetFancies · 30/12/2020 07:59

By March everything should be pretty much back to normal. So very pleased.
