Whats happening in China now?

Zara50 · 29/12/2020 22:05

I have googled but I dont seem to get any answers.
All I seem to be seeing is that China have got rid of it without a vaccine, followed by talk of propaganda blah etc.

But can anyone tell me what has actually happened out there for them to have it under control?

Are they still in some form of lockdown?

@HibernatingTill2030

Their government did- and is doing- the sort of lockdown that people here would never accept. Locking people into houses, roadblocks, the full shebang. Effective but unethical.
What’s unethical about a road block? It stops people travelling between tiers which is a positive, surely. People were ‘Locked in’ as part of the quarantine procedure, which was 14 days in a hotel, but the same procedure happens in Australia too. It’s boring, but is it unethical?

What a spiteful comment. Many Chinese have also suffered the loss of family members and friends.
Ilovegreentomatoes · 31/12/2020 19:01

Why not apologise for what they have done? Why cover it up in the first place and unleash it to the rest of the world? No doubt my comment will be deleted because how dare anyone mention china.

Ilovegreentomatoes · 31/12/2020 19:02

Along with their cruel and inhumane wet markets.

Wet markets are normal markets and are neither cruel, nor inhumane. These markets are found all over Asia.

Not sure what you think your post will be deleted. This whole thread is about China. The Chinese have also suffered during the pandemic.

That's a matter of opinion.

These markets are found all over Asia.

That doesn't mean it's right, just that other countries are cruel and inhumane.

Well apparently today they’ve got their first case of the ‘UK mutation’, brought in by a student from the UK ...

Exactly. Don’t rise to it!

It’s a normal market. You will not find exotic species for sale in a standard wet market, just meat and vegetables. No animals in cages, no pools of blood...just a normal market.

So many posters seems to be experts on Chinese markets...yet have probably never visited China.
Ozzie9523 · 31/12/2020 19:42

I have no intention of ever visiting thanks. Are you saying all the horrific photos and videos of the wet markets shown around the world are fake? Ok then.

Insertfunnyname · 31/12/2020 19:42

@ShanghaiDiva please watch some YouTube videos about wet markets. They’re an animal rights travesty. Absolutely disgusting things.

ShanghaiDiva · 31/12/2020 19:47

There is a difference between a wet market , which is a standard market found all over Asia and those markets which illegally trade in exotic species. There is nothing inhumane about a wet market, this is my point. Markets which trade in exotic species (which I have never seen in China, but am sure existed) have been banned since Feb of this year and I hope these restrictions are strictly enforced.
I get tired of all the inhumane, cruel comments and the casual racism to be honest.

I lived 10 mins walk from a wet market so I don’t need to see a video of something which is not a wet market, but rather a market which I assume is trading in exotic spaciest.
As I have already said, these are not wet markets. However, what do I know only lived there for 12 years...

Well a lot of us get tired and upset hearing about the cruel and inhumane way that China treat their animals. Bear bile farms and god knows what else. Those markets may be banned for now but I’m pretty sure they’ll make a comeback when this is all over.
ShanghaiDiva · 31/12/2020 19:51

Species, not spaciest.

ShanghaiDiva · 31/12/2020 19:52

Hopefully, they will not come back.
I do not condone animal cruelty.

Insertfunnyname · 31/12/2020 22:29

It’s not racist to condone a country with a shocking, horrifying and distressing history of animal rights.

People playing the racist card just stop people taking actual racism seriously. I’d make the same comments if someone of my ethnicity (you don’t know what that is of course) were running these markets.
