This Christmas Holiday is the most boring ever

Getting me down, ever since Boxing Day we have just been so bored and it's that lethargic type of bored. Tried to go for a bike ride today but began raining so we had to turn back after 5 minutes. No snow in my area which would perk us up!

I love Christmas holidays usually but in Tier 3 we are bored! I know people have it much worse so trying to be grateful! Is anyone else feeling the same?!

We'd usually meet friends, go to play areas, cinema, bowling, trampolines, out for meals etc.

Bored too. It's the lethagy that is getting me. The can't be arsed and brain fog from not being as active as I was.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 29/12/2020 20:47

It is boring really but I personally don't do much at Christmas holidays anyway.
But I was looking at holiday pictures from a few years back and felt so sad.
When i woke in the morning the smell of the air and the look in the sky made me think of times that I didnt have to SD or worry about catching covid by going to work.
Its shit.
TheJanuary gloom just stretches out though...
I will be sad to take the tree down too :(

Stripyhoglets1 · 29/12/2020 20:52

Yep. I'm usually pretty good at not doing much but I'm bored and unmotivated to do anything to relieve the boredom today.

LoafEater · 29/12/2020 20:55

T4 here and Soooo bored! I usually love the run up to Xmas, parties, panto etc and h then love the chilled week after it to relax and unwind, but I’m so bored now I’m actually looking forward to going back to the (probably) covid infested school I work at.

It’s our 20th wedding anniversary today and we had such lovely things planned. A takeaway curry watching the darts on tv is not the same as the cocktails in the 5* hotel I was supposed to be in.

cissyandbessy · 29/12/2020 21:02

Am in Tier 2 here and it's still boring! Doesn't feel right to go to pubs and eat a meal with the numbers going up as fast as they seem to be. All my family are abroad/vulnerable so seen no-one for months. My one pre Xmas shopping trip was the most people
I've seen in a supermarket since March and made me very nervous so staying away for a bit and am unfit and overweight so walking not very pleasurable. Been planting bulbs in the garden today and trying to remember that in 12 weeks the garden will have flowers in it. It's just dragging on and on now.

Calmandmeasured1 · 29/12/2020 21:03

Yep. I'm off work until the 4th, normally we'd do loads. Meet up with friends, go out for meals/cinema. We're tier 3 so all we can do is go to the park. DS and I have literally spent days sitting home watching films and eating.
Oh no, all you've been doing is watching films and eating at home rather than, er, watching films at the cinema and eating out. No wonder you are bored. Grin

Yetithesnowwoman · 29/12/2020 21:08

So sorry you’re feeling so low @DrizzleandDamp. How old are your kids? Do you have a partner and if so could they give you a break for a bit? FlowersBrew

mynameiscalypso · 29/12/2020 21:09

Another one with a one year old here and in Tier 4. I'd love to spend the days watching films and eating chocolate but that's not going to happen with him around and so we go to the park, again. I throw a ball for him to run after, again. We wait in a queue for the swings, again. And then we come home and watch the CBeebies Christmas special, again.

I'm going back to work in a couple of weeks post maternity leave and I can't wait (presuming DS' nursery is still opening...).

Christmasfairy2020 · 29/12/2020 21:10

Snow here. We had Carol's in the park with all neighbours socially distanced and then one neighbour on another cul de sac was santa and others did disney Grin

we've done two country walks, just a few minutes drive and used OS maps to make a circular walk of 6 miles - boots very muddy but we took food and mulled wine for half way round

another walk on a decent track of 4 miles just 10 minutes away

back home card games and reading

its been lovely

were in tier 3 but not been shopping or supermarket yet

back to work Thursday so making the most of walking and chilling out, tbh can't say its that different from other years as I tend to avoid shops and shopping anyway after Christmas

blue25 · 29/12/2020 21:15

We’re enjoying it, but we’re happy reading, watching films, playing games & eating/drinking lots. Never read so much in my life!

I think most people are happy doing these things to be fair - just many have toddlers/small children who get in the way a bit!
Ellieboolou33 · 29/12/2020 21:22

Agreed, I'm off until the 11th 😩 so cold to go out for long walks (to nowhere), nowhere to go, no one to visit. I dislike January & February anyway but this is going to be unlike any other!

DrizzleandDamp · 29/12/2020 21:24

@Yetithesnowwoman no partner, and unlikely to ever get one. Ex H I’d 3hrs away, they were supposed to be with him but he’s too busy as always, he gifted me an accidental text on Xmas day confirming he has actually been shagging me ex bf for years (I left him over it but he convinced me I was crazy). He hasn’t acknowledged he sent the text and I’ve ignored it so just getting the odd “misssss my kids soooo much” and “why aren’t you answering your phone. He bloody knows why but cba to answer as he won’t actually come and see them and will just gaslight me and fuck with my head more.

Kids are 6. 8 and 10 and while they can be lovely and we did have a nice time before Xmas it’s all gone downhill from there. I just need to pull my fucking socks up really but struggling.

crimsonlake · 29/12/2020 21:44

I am just envious that you are all at home, I was back to work today and would much rather be at home.

I'll happily swap you, you'll can be all snug at home but the downside is you'll have to occupy a 1 year old all day who doesn't nap and is still yet to comprehend how to walk. 🤣
bookworm14 · 29/12/2020 21:58

YANBU, it’s shit. Just day after day of trying to entertain a five year old with no play dates, family visits, cinemas, soft plays, libraries, museums, cafes or anything else remotely fun. The prospect of months more of this is horrific.

On the plus side, at least no one has so far come into this thread to yell HOW DARE YOU COMPLAIN, DON’T YOU KNOW THERE’S A GLOBAL PANDEMIC?

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 29/12/2020 22:02

Yup but I'm heavily pregnant and really ill and sore so quite glad there no expectation to go anywhere this year. My kids are absolutely gutted that we're not having a new year's party though. Usually invite our friends and their kids and they get to stay up late, eat shite and run wild. Think they are more disappointed about that than anything else being cancelled this year.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 29/12/2020 22:05

Although today was the first day we have had some sun and it was nice and frosty so I made everyone go for a walk.

AaronPurr · 29/12/2020 22:07

You forgot the crucial part of the offer. Not only do you have to do this for one day, you have to do it for the next one, and the next one and the next one... Then before you know it, it's been 3 weeks, 5 weeks, 7 weeks then several months of the same shit. The weather and the calandar may have changed but the days remain the same. Another walk, trip to the park and maybe a zoom chat with the family / friends you can't see.

Flowers Cake Wine To all those struggling, it's the monotony that grinds you down, and I think you're all bloody amazing for getting through each day.

Ragwort · 29/12/2020 22:10

I'm sick and tired of walks, 'nice meals in', board games and film nights ..
Have done nothing else for nine months ........ at least the craze for Zoom quiz nights seems to have died out ...

MsMeNz · 29/12/2020 22:23

I've loved it, quiet, no rush or pressure to entertain or travel places. Am I a little scared and anxious? Yes I am. But I've really enjoyed the break from running kids to school and hobbies and working full time etc etc. But to be honest I'm the type to be entertained by books, jigsaws and decluttering 😁

LittleMissLockdown · 29/12/2020 22:27

Absolutely. Groundhog day doesn't even begin to cover it. Grin

2020inhouse · 29/12/2020 22:36

I’d love to be on my own, have a lie in
Past 7am, read a book, watch some TV etc. Instead I’ve gone from a horrendously busy work situation to trying to entertain my kids that do not get on with each other. T4 area, I am dreading returning to work because I am just as exhausted as I was when I finished up. I fantasise about having just one fucking day on my own. It’s been almost a year now. I just want to be by myself for a day, with no one, work or family, asking me to do stuff for them.

Ozzie9523 · 29/12/2020 22:37

Tier 4 here. Getting fatter by the day 😬
