This Christmas Holiday is the most boring ever

Getting me down, ever since Boxing Day we have just been so bored and it's that lethargic type of bored. Tried to go for a bike ride today but began raining so we had to turn back after 5 minutes. No snow in my area which would perk us up!

I love Christmas holidays usually but in Tier 3 we are bored! I know people have it much worse so trying to be grateful! Is anyone else feeling the same?!

We'd usually meet friends, go to play areas, cinema, bowling, trampolines, out for meals etc.

@Michaelbaubles

I went to Wilkos today and bought a load of half price wrapping paper, and I think it was the best part of the holiday so far.
I might do that tomorrow for a bit of excitement.
BrieAndChilli · 29/12/2020 18:20

Normally December is a whirlwind of Christmas events, shopping, nights out, school fetes and plays etc, school and work then either travelling for Christmas or people travelling to us. So the period between Christmas and new year is a chance for us to just chill, watch films, play board games and eat. But because we have been doing that all year it’s lost it’s novelty.

HensInTheSkirtingBoard · 29/12/2020 18:21

Yep, Tier 4 here and bored rigid. The week between Christmas and New Year used to be my favourite as the luxury of doing nothing was so unusual...now it's just dull after the best part of a year of stuff being cancelled / closed.

I can't bear the idea of yet another bloody walk and I might even do some actual work tomorrow!

Thankfully I don't have small people to entertain as well though so I can at least stay in bed for half the day.

LittleMissLockdown · 29/12/2020 18:21

Super bored here with a just turned 1 year old. I've spent the entire year going to rhe park and on walks and I'm so over it. We had snow today which was a nice chnage but the small person didn't like it and the pushchair was hard to manoeuvre and in the end we both came home wet and fed up.

I agree that many have it worse bit honestly I'm bored of being indoors staring at the same 4 wallls and bored of being outside going on the same walks looking at the same scenery. I so badly want to do something different.

PumpkinPie2016 · 29/12/2020 18:24

I sympathise with anyone finding it hard, but honestly, I/we are enjoying it. We are fortunate to live in a lovely place so nice walks out the door.

Been to the park with DS scooter- a cafe has a takeaway window so had lunch from there.

Played with DS with his new toys. Watched films/series, read books and generally chilled.

I am back at work Monday and need to do some planning beforehand so might do that tomorrow.

Maybe I am enjoying it because term time is a zillion miles and hour!

DawnLaura · 29/12/2020 18:26

Agreed. I’ve been furloughed since early Nov, partner is on flexi-furlough. We’re tier 4 and have a 2.5 DC. Getting out the house and going different places and seeing family/friends with our son is what keeps me going usually. I’ve found this lockdown particularly difficult and have felt so lethargic, unmotivated and emotional. Just want life to go back to normal.

grandmasterstitch · 29/12/2020 18:28

If someone else suggests a walk I'm going to smack them. It's cold and wet and dark and I just can't be bothered. I miss people and I miss sitting inside a warm cafe with a cup of tea rather than freezing my tits off perched on a soggy bench with a disposable cup. My 2 year old is climbing the walls and is watching far too much tv but there's literally nothing else to do

Fortyfifty · 29/12/2020 18:30

It wouldn't feel so bad if I hadn't been working from home since March but I'm just so fed up of being at home, being on annual leave and c sick at home has no appeal. Is usually look forward to January as a chance to hibernate, enjoy TV, stay in, save money, c recharge after the hectic events and build up to Christmas and new year all through December. But that's all we have done. Cook. Eat. Watch films. Watch TV. Played the odd game. Drink some more. I might set myself a reading challenge or give myself a DIY project to get through January. I find it hard to go to bed feeling like I've done so little and the next day holds the same.

Lexilooo · 29/12/2020 18:31

Yeah it is crap. I don't know what I would do if it wasn't for my horse giving me something to do and a reason to go out everyday.

PropertyHelp · 29/12/2020 18:32

Well I'm having a lovely time. My work has been bonkers, 12-14 hour days for months on end. Just to sit and breathe and watch some tv with the kids has been a massive tonic. We've been for walks with friends, I've painted a bathroom cabinet and am super chilled.
I have a little pang about not being able to spend NYE with good friends but SO not looking forward to going back to work.

shallbe · 29/12/2020 18:33

We don't usually do a lot in the Xmas holidays to be fair, it almost feels a relief to just enjoy screen time guilt free as we can't be doing much else. I only really go shopping which I've been able to do. We managed to get to the cinema on the 18th, I will struggle if it's still like this in February, I usually find that the hardest holiday with the weather being rubbish, not having the Xmas/autumnal activities of October and December.

AbstractDot · 29/12/2020 18:33

This is it, the less busy December just removes the downtime of this week. We could (technically) travel an hour to a Tier 2 area to do the usual activities but I think its the not being able to meet friends and family that is missed most. I've been positive about most of Lockdown but after boxing day I can't enjoy Xmas movies anymore so missing the cosiness of them too! Some decorating is booked in professional next week so that's off the cards. It is definitely easier with older children, you just can't get lost in a good boxset or movie with younger ones about

Yes boring! I mean it's nice not to be working, but lazing around reading, watching films, playing games etc has seriously lost its appeal!

ichundich · 29/12/2020 18:38

We've been ok going for walks, playing games and enjoying downtime when everyone (including the adults) can do what they enjoy. I do miss my friends though, and I'm starting to think that some of my friendships just won't make it to the end of the final lockdown. But spare a thought for the poor people in Croatia, who on top of Covid, have had their homes destroyed by an earthquake today.

NorbertMeubles · 29/12/2020 18:39

Tier 2 here but still bored as cant mix with others and I'm fed up to the back teeth of my family 😃

AbstractDot · 29/12/2020 18:39

Really happy for those of you enjoying the time, I've embraced outdoor walks and bike rides this autumn/winter it's just the rain thats spoilt it now. I used to work in education and I'm sure I'd appreciate the time off now if I was still doing that full time! My job now is largely from home like a lot of you and I'm not inclined to work when kids are around!

A moan is good. It won't be long and hopefully spring will bring an amazing new/old way of life back!

unicornparty · 29/12/2020 18:39

Tier 4 and I'm loving it. No rush to get up in the morning, then spending the mornings lounging around in pyjamas, playing Xbox (ds11), reading Mumsnet etc then we walk all afternoon. The weather here isn't freezing (East Anglia) so walks here are still enjoyable enough to get 6 or 7 miles in. Come in from a walk to cook dinner and by that time the football is starting which we enjoy. Sometimes play board games or online games with friends and family.

HensInTheSkirtingBoard · 29/12/2020 18:40

If someone else suggests a walk I'm going to smack them.

DP just brightly said 'Shall we go for a walk tomorrow?'...so I had to kill him, obvs.

AbstractDot · 29/12/2020 18:43

@ichundich

"But spare a thought for the poor people in Croatia, who on top of Covid, have had their homes destroyed by an earthquake today."

You are right of course but I saw a quote that made me feel OK to have this moan, something like 'telling people they can't be sad because some people have it worse is like telling someone they can't be happy coz other people are happier'! And I generally do try to think positive, I can't see my parents but I'm keeping them safe etc.

OP posts:
Waxonwaxoff0 · 29/12/2020 18:44

Why is there always one who has to remind us that other people have it worse Hmm

ichundich · 29/12/2020 18:45

No, of course you should be allowed to feel sad! I think it's fair to say that this year has just been rubbish for most people, even though some have it a bit better than others.

Tenyearsgone · 29/12/2020 18:46

No more bloody walks! There's not even a nice cafe or a pub to break up the boring walks. Sitting on a wet bench with a coffee is not quite the same as a pint or a coffee in a cosy pub or cafe.

SnufkinsSong · 29/12/2020 18:46

I'm definitely the same. At home with a 1 and 3 year old. We're just so fed up with walking around the same parks. Even with jumpers, snowsuits, waterproofs etc they still get so cold and the freezing drizzle is just dispiriting. I've had some tearful moments over the last week. We miss seeing friends and haven't seen my family since August. I'm working today and tomorrow (wfh) and it was such a relief to handover childcare to DH for a couple of days. We're not meant to care for little children in isolation. Bored, stressed and exhausted in equal measure.

WitchesGlove · 29/12/2020 18:46

@DipSwimSwoosh

I am enjoying not having to visit family cross country. We are in tier 3 and have done lots of swimming, indoor and out, been to the cinema and car park panto, climbing and a farm park, plus playing in the snow. Lovely to stay away from shops and traffic, and spend time playing with toys, board games, reading and watching tv.
Wow, which part of the country do you live in?
toomanypillows · 29/12/2020 18:47

I've loved the time off. Watching films, playing board games, reading. I decided to learn the violin and that's been interesting 😂🎻
Loads of time with DC and actually being able to clean the house.
I don't want to go back to work!
