This Christmas Holiday is the most boring ever

Getting me down, ever since Boxing Day we have just been so bored and it's that lethargic type of bored. Tried to go for a bike ride today but began raining so we had to turn back after 5 minutes. No snow in my area which would perk us up!

I love Christmas holidays usually but in Tier 3 we are bored! I know people have it much worse so trying to be grateful! Is anyone else feeling the same?!

We'd usually meet friends, go to play areas, cinema, bowling, trampolines, out for meals etc.

I was very glad to get back to work today having spent 3.5 days on my own.
I think its probably worse for those that live alone, have very young kids etc.

herecomesthsun · 29/12/2020 18:47

I do keep suggesting walks but it is cold and we gave the kids lots of games at Xmas. They are also playing instruments. It is noisy but they seem happy, so hey.

TheGreatWave · 29/12/2020 18:47

Yeah super full. If you dare go anywhere (such as the coast) you just get Facebook shamed.

Sarahandduck18 · 29/12/2020 18:49

I’m so bored- no shops, no visiting friends, no coffee/meals out, no cinema, no panto, no sales shopping, no hillwalking, no cinema, no soft play, no NYE party planning, no funfair.

Just immediate family so conversations are so repetitive.

DCs fed up of local walks.

Thank goodness for streamed tv!!

SallyOMalley · 29/12/2020 18:49

I'm in tier 2 (but probably not for long). We were really looking forward to long walks, games and a quiet Christmas.

But then, in the early hours of Boxing Day, DH slipped on the stairs in the dark and broke his leg, needing an op to have plates/screws inserted. First day out of hospital today.

So a double whammy here! And if the schools close .... 😩

DipSwimSwoosh · 29/12/2020 18:51

I am in the SW

Popcornriver · 29/12/2020 18:51

Agreed. We've stocked up on lego, board games, crafty bits but there's only so much everyone can be bothered with. Same for walks and bike rides to the same places.

WhoWants2Know · 29/12/2020 18:53

I've yet to run out of things to do. I don't think I've been bored since I was a kid. 🤷‍♀️

Yetithesnowwoman · 29/12/2020 18:56

I haven’t run out of things to do, exactly, it’s just that they’re the same things... not enough variety. Also need to get kids out of the house daily but they’re even more bored by going for a walk as I am! Cue lots of moaning... Hmm

NearlyTheHolidays2 · 29/12/2020 19:02

Tier 3 and loving it. Downloaded Strava, going out for walks and bicycle rides, playing board games, watching films, baking and eating! Hoping to fit in some reading and Call the Midwife before I go back to work.

Tal45 · 29/12/2020 19:02

TBH I always think the days between Boxing day and New Year are a bit weird and boring after the excitement of Christmas. Of course then we have January and February to look forward to...

Dartsplayer · 29/12/2020 19:03

Tier 4 here. Yep soooo bored and every single day feels like groundhog day. I don't have the motivation to do anything. I'm actually even looking forward to go back to work (WFH) on the 4th just for something to focus my mind and to talk to other people other than those that live in my house!! Even though it needs to be done, I'm dreading an announcement of the schools closing - that might just tip me over the edge

Vindo · 29/12/2020 19:07

I'm bored out of my tits.

If it was just me I'd be happy doing nothing, but I'm so sick of trying to entertain my 1 and 3 year olds in (Scottish) tier 4. I don't think it's going to improve any time soon either.

LittleMissLockdown · 29/12/2020 19:14

If it was just me I'd be happy doing nothing

That's my problem. If I didn't have small human at home I'd be able to read, watch box sets, experiment with new meals and have a lie in. Having to amuse a 1 year old all day when you can only go to the park for fun makes the days incredibly long and monotonous.

Mincepiehangover · 29/12/2020 19:21

Tier and also bored! Am enjoying not getting up too early and being more relaxed but usually we go to a little theatre and watch a show with my mum and sister then go for lunch somewhere. Sister couldn't come home and nowhere open anyway! The less l do, the less l want to do! First time in years l have not had to work but bugger all to do.

Mincepiehangover · 29/12/2020 19:22

And yes def if it was just me l would be fine but having a child makes it harder

LynetteScavo · 29/12/2020 19:50

I'm not bored yet - I've still got loads to do like decorate a bedroom. I would usually see family this week, so I'm sad I haven't been able to see them in person, but I'm certainly not bored yet.

XiCi · 29/12/2020 19:54

I love the lazy days in between Xmas and New year where you do absolutely nothing. A real recharge I don't get at any other time of year. I actually do have plans to go the cinema, go out for meals etc but really cba. DC really happy to hole up with their Xmas pressies for a couple of days as well.

charliebear78 · 29/12/2020 19:57

I am enjoying going out for walks something we only really did as a family at the weekend/or Summer, Now though we are fitting in family walks everyday(unless pissing it down ha)
I am really missing going to Cafes and restaurants though, and again if it was just me I would be ok, if I have a good book I can read for hours happily.
I instead have a 6 year old that wants constant attention and to be entertained..it is so hard when there is nothing open!
He watches an annoying plonker on YouTube called Unspeakable and the constant laughing and shouting gives me an headache.
I am expecting more of the same to be for weeks to come and this just leaves me feeling really low.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 29/12/2020 20:01

Christmas school holidays are always the worst. This is why we booked (on Boxing Day last year) to go skiing this year. So much for that.

I'm so bored that I've stated doing school work to fill the time.

Silversun83 · 29/12/2020 20:08

This.

I could quite happily think of ways to spend the day in tier 4 if it was just me. Rather than thinking of ways to entertain a 2 and 4 year-old. Which, let's face it, isn't always a bundle of joy in normal times, let alone in the midst of a pandemic when you can't break things up a bit by seeing other people.

We are generally an outdoorsy family so enjoy spending a lot of time at the beach/woods etc all year round, it's just when it is literally ALL you can do. Got the zoo booked later this week so I guess that's something slightly different.

maddiemookins16mum · 29/12/2020 20:19

This is why I volunteered to work Christmas Eve (had three days off before), and am working NYE, but have been off since getting home on Christmas Eve. I still then have three days off when I finish on NYE. It breaks up the time off for me (plus means I don’t go back in on the 4th Jan to hundreds of urgent emails).

Feministicon · 29/12/2020 20:26

@HensInTheSkirtingBoard

If someone else suggests a walk I'm going to smack them.

DP just brightly said 'Shall we go for a walk tomorrow?'...so I had to kill him, obvs.

😂😂😂👌
userxx · 29/12/2020 20:30

I'm sure others are relieved to have some enforced down time too.

Nope, not here. It's like waiting to die.

DrizzleandDamp · 29/12/2020 20:34

It’s fucking awful and I can see no joy of happiness in life. Too cold and miserable to persuade the kids out, nothing fun to do indoors, no childcare relief not even my “bubble” who don’t want to help really.

Kids are fighting and it’s like a black out of negativity even if I try and do “fun” stuff life baking/persuade them to walk/ persuade them to the shop to buy food we are rapidly running out of/watch films/play games.

All of it ends badly all of it, and nothing will change until summer other than the shit cycle of work/school/bedtime/work.

Would seriously be happy to not exist right now:
