I have been going out to take the dogs to the enclosed field we exercise them in, to take the car to be MOTd, to do the food shop. My OH has been going to work and back. We haven't seen a single police 'block' monitoring motorists in transit. Has anyone? Or was that just scare tactics?

@LitPeach Why do you answer the responses to your post instead of just repeating the same nonsense on different threads?

ImnotCarolineHirons · 27/12/2020 20:49

@LitPeach is either on a total windup or has completely lost the plot. You do know over 99% of people survive this virus? Why should everyone be locked away in a dystopian police/army patrolled state? Police here in U.K. by consent: "engage, educate and as a final resort, enforce". They don't have anywhere near the powers to do what you want and no sane govt who values their votes will let them.

Walks and buying stuff in Tesco have always been allowed even in first lockdown.

You're mad if you think absolutely destroying the economy, mental health, and even physical health is worth it. Toddle off to North Korea love, you'll fit right in.

Spiratedaway · 27/12/2020 21:37

@LitPeach

Absolutely OP- the enforcement or lack of is a joke.

I'm in tier 4 and you'd never know people were supposed to be at home with the number of cars on the road and people out and about.

We need a proper lockdown. Army patrolling the streets issuing £5000 fines for non key workers caught outside with prison for repeat offenders.

I'd also like to see the government look at using phone data to catch non key workers out of their homes and fine/jail them accordingly.

What are you on?
NeverForgetYourDreams · 27/12/2020 21:39

They have round here. We are one of the few remaining tier 2 areas and police have been on the two major roads into our area.

OrangeBananaFish · 27/12/2020 21:57

I live in North Yorkshire, but live 1.5 miles away from Co. Durham. I've been in and out of Darlington a couple of times, I've also been to the supermarket today at Bishop Aukland (also County Durham), even drove through Barnard Castle back before lockdown 2.0 (with the previous tiers). Not seen a single police car stopping anyone at all.

BackforGood · 27/12/2020 22:00

LitPeach has been posting, shall we say, somewhat controversial thoughts on other threads today too, and then not answering when people ask her about them.

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 27/12/2020 22:12

So it seems that it depends on the county and/or tier whether there are checks around.

On a different note, how can some MNters remember who said what on different threads? I'm very impressed!

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 27/12/2020 22:16

@BarryWhiteIsMyBrother Because it was only tonight that it was said lol

sociallydistained · 27/12/2020 22:23

As if when there's about 101 reasons to be out travelling still.

LitPeach · 27/12/2020 22:26

@BackforGood

The problem is that too many people are not following the rules. As a result, tens of thousands of people are dying unnecessarily.

What we need therefore is a total lockdown until April at the earliest.

People have shown that they cannot be trusted to exercise the privilege of being allowed to leave home sensibly. They therefore have to be forcibly kept indoors to keep people safe and save lives.

Bluntness100 · 27/12/2020 22:32

Checks are Madness. You’d just lie and come up with a valid reason to make it essential. How the hell would the police then check what you were saying was true or not. What would they Have, thousands of motorists lined up as they radioed around trying to work out if you were lying or not..

Nicknacky · 27/12/2020 22:33

@LitPeach So how was me going for a run today, for example, not following the rules?

MandosHatHair · 27/12/2020 22:34

I'm glad they don't, DH has to cross counties for work, he has a letter in the glove box from his work confirming what he does etc but I wouldn't fancy a copper who had stopped every other car breathing in through his car window on a daily basis.

Nicknacky · 27/12/2020 22:34

@LitPeach And is it true what a poster said that you had previously said about your kids?

mintich · 27/12/2020 22:35

2 of my friends have been stopped here in Essex

JacobReesMogadishu · 27/12/2020 22:41
@LitPeach And is it true what a poster said that you had previously said about your kids?
There was certainly a poster on another thread a bit back who said her kids hadn’t left the house since March and her name rings a bell.

Nicknacky · 27/12/2020 22:44

@JacobReesMogadishu I have spoken previously to a poster who had done that but it wasn’t Lit unless she has name changed. Or there is more posters than we think have done that, which would be a worry.

Whatisthepoint10 · 27/12/2020 23:21

Roads?? People easily fly internationally from the Tier 4. Lack of control and enforcement is shocking

Scarby9 · 28/12/2020 00:06

The gantries (sp?) up the A1 in Durham / Northumberland have been warning about travel into Scotland.

Spikeyball · 28/12/2020 00:16

"A few £5000 fines for the covidiots 'popping out' for walks in the park or buying Prosecco from Tesco would soon put a stop to it."

I thought it was gin they popped out for. I prefer Baileys.

LitPeach · 28/12/2020 00:29

@Spikeyball

Personally I would close supermarkets so that no one could buy any non essentials. Too many are going out to numerous shops multiple times per day.

Food should be provided by the army in the form of weekly ration packs dropped to doorsteps. Then no one would need to leave home at all unless a key worker.

It would also be easier to spot and fine rule breakers as 'out for essential shopping' would no longer be an excuse Hmm

Siepie · 28/12/2020 02:44

There were checks during Lockdown 1 in my South Yorks area. I remember the news stories of someone travelling to London to buy a loaf of bread, so there must have been checks on the motorways too.

During the November lockdown DP had to travel 3 hours down the motorway for work. She took her work ID and a print-out of the email explaining why she needed to travel, in case she got stopped. There were a lot of cars on the road and no police checks.

To be honest I'm glad if the police are focusing on 'normal' crime now rather than checking random motorists.

lovelemoncurd · 28/12/2020 03:11

What? You're actually expecting road blocks and police checks? Oh ffs!

LuckyC27 · 28/12/2020 04:53

Travelled Christmas Day in a tier 4 area (part of a support bubble) more cars on the road than I expected and I didn’t see any police. It must be way too hard to police, plus the likelihood is they end up stopping those in support bubbles rather than cars full of people breaking the rules so would be a waste.
