I have been going out to take the dogs to the enclosed field we exercise them in, to take the car to be MOTd, to do the food shop. My OH has been going to work and back. We haven't seen a single police 'block' monitoring motorists in transit. Has anyone? Or was that just scare tactics?

North Yorkshire police were doing at one point to stop people travelling to the coast. No idea why as it was legal (although not advised). Makes me think they don't have enough real crime to deal with.

I'm in Tier 3 and went to a toy shop to buy lego today.

Lol

The police in York were doing road blocks on the a64 before Xmas and quizzing motorists about where they’d come from. They’ve now upped their game to going into restaurants and pubs and issuing fines to non locals.

Amazes me that anyone would admit to being non local. The police can’t force you to give your details, plus I don’t carry ID. I’d give them my brothers address. 🤷‍♀️ Not that I’d break the rules.

Seems they were doing it in March as well

I did actually travel from a tier 3 area to York which I’m allowed to do. Took the back roads to avoid arguing with the police.

Michaelbaubles · 27/12/2020 17:49

I’ve crossed from Tier 3 East Yorkshire to Tier 2 North Yorkshire every work day since the end of lockdown 2 and never seen a police check yet! So I think it was mostly bluster rather than fact.

JacobReesMogadishu · 27/12/2020 17:50

York police issue “shocking number of fines”

www.sunderlandecho.com/news/crime/shocking-number-fines-issued-tier-3-drinkers-who-flouted-covid-rules-visit-york-3075566

If I was a York resident who had been a victim of crime which hadn’t been investigated fully I’d be a bit unimpressed.

They were definitely on the a64 the day after the last lockdown finished. I went home via the a64 and saw them. Plus there was footage on Look North.
notalwaysalondoner · 27/12/2020 17:53

A friend on the train from Southampton to London got asked why she was travelling by police last week. That’s the only time I’ve heard of anyone being stopped. I don’t think the roads are being checked at all as (a) 99% of people will have a valid excuse eg work, exercise, food shopping, caring and (b) those that don’t will lie and how are the police supposed to prove otherwise?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 27/12/2020 17:53

Coppers in Hereford were going into pubs asking if you were Tier 1. If not, kicked out.

PinkPurpleFlowers · 27/12/2020 17:54

@Quincejam

My son who is a policeman laughed his socks off at this - stopping people on a dual carriageway trying to prove where they live and whether they could legitimately travel? How long do you think that would take?? The whole of his shift in a fairly big town is about 15 uniformed...
Thank God

Why do people want to live in a Police State ?

Don’t you even read, or know anything about any history ?? Literature ?

MotherForker · 27/12/2020 17:55

We're planning a trip to a North Yorks NT place this week. We're tier 3, but right in border. If they stop me I will argue with them (politely) as we won't be breaking the law.

Every time I see them tweeting about road stops and fines it winds me up a little bit more. What a waste of resources.

Mincepiehangover · 27/12/2020 17:57

I live in tier 4 and know a couple who was driving up to Scotland to spend christmas with family- laughed at me when l said l hope you don't get stopped. I am usually live and let live but it annoyed me knowing how many people are spending this year alone.

StealthPolarBear · 27/12/2020 17:58

@emmathedilemma

There’s a surprising number of cars on the road here given that the message is to stay local and the only place people can really be going is food shopping or for outdoor exercise!
Or to work surely
GabsAlot · 27/12/2020 18:02

the only ones i remember were in the first lockdown when you werent supposed to go anywhere it was more wales stopping people traveling for exercise

never see any around london and essex

Beccasb · 27/12/2020 18:06

They did a road block by us during the first lockdown, very early on, we’re in a small market town so we’re very surprised to see the police re routing people through a car park to check where they were going. Incredibly dangerous for the police in hindsight as they didn’t have masks. Haven’t seen anything since and we’ve travelled quite a bit.

BackforGood · 27/12/2020 18:13

Even if any forces (other than Yorkshire it seems) had the resources for this, how exactly would they be able to prove anyone's stories ? Confused

MoirasRoses · 27/12/2020 18:17

I drove to a tier 2 area from tier 3 for an outdoor Christmas event at Stockeld Park. Both my cousins took their kids as did a good 10 of my friends. All different days across December. It’s only guidance & the park said they were still welcoming guests from surrounding tier 3 areas. Didn’t see any police that is for sure!

I can only think people, crumble and confess! 😁. No idea otherwise how they manage to issue 160 fines. I suppose if someone tries to lie and say they live in York and the police ask them their postcode and it isn’t right that might be a give away. Of course people could just refuse to provide a postcode, they’re under no obligation to. I wouldn’t even tell a police officer my name if they asked.
mrshonda · 27/12/2020 18:21

North Yorkshire/West Yorkshire border on a rural road - friend in car was stopped and questioned, then asked to turn around as he was going for a walk just over the border (half a mile). They've been very keen up there.

You don't need to be a key worker to go out to work!

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 27/12/2020 18:27

They did in my area of Scotland....... for precisely 2 days. It’s just paying lip service and I can’t blame the police, they don’t have the numbers to do it

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 27/12/2020 18:29

As others have said they dont have the manpower

During the first lockdown i saw the odd police officer at the beach and one elderly lady was questioned when she was parked there but thats it

OxfordwillsaveusbyFebruary · 27/12/2020 18:29

We made a 40 minute journey within tier 2 but bordering 3 and 4

We saw 7 different sets of police cameras/multiple vans/cars rather like when they do the DVLA checks and photo you at point A and pull you over a short distance on. There were a couple of people being pulled over. I made this journey regularly in the 1st lockdown and 3 sets was the maximum I saw.
