My council area is 100/100k.
Just checked all our surrounding councils and we are by far the lowest. We are in Scotland so mainland is tier 4 which is as close to full lockdown as possible,

juliainthedeepwater · 27/12/2020 09:51

166 in Bristol - tier 3

lokijet · 27/12/2020 10:14

94 in North Yorkshire- tier 2 but before nov lockdown we were 300+ it may be boring but it does help

Fortunately death rates seem lower now (partly because processes and treatments are better, more infections measured in the wider population and sadly as some of the most vulnerable didn't make it through round 1). The flip side is hospitals are fuller as more people are surviving but still being treated - this is good news but explains why they are still worried even in areas like mine with falling rates

Finally 94 seems quite good until you recall we were quarantine countries where the rate went above 20 in the summer. We have forgotten what good looks like and have no "low risk" tier in England

MotorwayDiva · 27/12/2020 10:19

Interesting graph, but u would also like to see number of positive tests as a proportion of all tests to ensure we are comparing like for like

Bellyfat · 27/12/2020 10:24

Tier 4.
Cases are increasing at a really scary rate at the moment.

As someone outside the UK, some of these figures being quoted are truly horrific. It's not just about death rates - which are undoubtedly going to keep on rising - but also all those people with long covid and permanent damage. I saw an interview with a woman (under 60) who had lost both hands and feet. Your government's handling of this has been spectacularly bad, but a large chunk of blame has to go to those people ignoring the rules and downplaying the consequences.

My country (Germany) is currently on a 187 average and my city is down to 154 ( we were over 200 a week ago). The highest rates (5 districts over 500) are one corner of the country with a notoriously high number of conspiracy theorists.
So the lockdown is starting to bite, but I imagine the rates will be shooting up again soon as a consequence of Christmas. And it's pure luck that the new variant doesn't appear to be widespread here yet - it can all change so quickly, as some of you have noticed.

Crunchymum · 27/12/2020 10:38

I've just found a screen shot I must have posted on the last thread.

Case per 100k have gone from 116 to 619 (death rate seems static thankfully)

It is terrifying. Actually finding this comparison makes it feel even worse???

  1. Around 400 cases in the last week, which is an improvement actually. In my town, and the five towns nearest, each area has 2 or less cases. The clusters are all in the bigger towns at the other side of the region.
zen1 · 27/12/2020 10:43

London - 741 cases per 100K. I had no idea my borough was this high.

LimitIsUp · 27/12/2020 10:46

171 and they have moved us from tier 2 to tier 4, which beggars belief when we are significantly lower than average. Their justification is the rate of change.

A summary as at 26/12 on gov.uk

Positive tests over the last 7 days up 45%. Tests carried out over the last 7 days up 25%. I haven't looked at the insurance and outs of the type of tests but it gives an idea. Does seem as though positivity rate is on the up.

Your not even in this country so how dare you presume that 'a large chunk of blame has to go to those people ignoring the rules'
Spiratedaway · 27/12/2020 10:50

1304 pretty bad here Essex

mrshoho · 27/12/2020 10:51

didn't mean to write insurance Grin

Yeah because everyone in every other country does exactly what they’re told and us English are all feckless idiots Hmm

shinynewapple2020 · 27/12/2020 11:13

It is worrying to see the impact of this new strain on the South East and some of these figures from Kent, Essex etc are quite frightening. Numbers in South Wales too. We can only hope that the tier 4 / lockdowns in these areas will bring numbers down and stop it spreading further.

I know it's not a popular thing to voice on here but I really do think they need to hold off reopening schools in January. Perhaps return to openings for key worker and vulnerable children only .

FuckOffDailyFailure · 27/12/2020 11:18

London area too, so much like yours op. Not great here! A friend is working in a covid ward and it sounds bad Sad.

nancy75 · 27/12/2020 11:32

but a large chunk of blame has to go to those people ignoring the rules and downplaying the consequences

A large chunk of blame has to go to the government that would not close schools that were absolutely rife with cases.

I think it's both. The government have massively fucked up. Even people I know who normally support them have said this recently.

But I also read that countries with higher levels of compliance have done a lot better too.

Orchidflower1 · 27/12/2020 11:35

Because that is a contributing factor. I may have followed to the letter but I know of people who haven’t including my own mum.

If everyone only knows one person who’s broken the rules that’s enough combined with the mutant strain and lax government to be cause rises.

LadyCatStark · 27/12/2020 11:51

163 and been in tier 3 for months!

TicTacTwo · 27/12/2020 11:58

737 per 100,000
It was like half that a week ago and like half again the week previous to that.

mrshoho · 27/12/2020 12:03

Don't be fooled into thinking that we are suffering with such high cases in part because of the general public's lack of compliance. There will always be a percentage that don't but overall the UK has been compliant and in fact far more so than the government were expecting us to be. Many places in London and the South East came out of the last lockdown with higher cases than before it started. The rates were escalating in schools, manufacturing and healthcare. The insistence on keeping schools open despite the secondary age group having the fastest rates of infection is to blame more than the general public's compliance.
