SomelikeitHoth · 24/12/2020 21:15

My brother has booked for us to go to a rental holiday home in February half term. Will this be able to go ahead?
Very kind but I am very surprised he's done this !

Unlikely but who knows. You’ll know the week before

Username7521 · 24/12/2020 21:19

We’ve got South Africa booked. Coming to terms with the fact that we’ll probably be in lockdown

Rosehip10 · 24/12/2020 21:25

Wales has the second highest corona virus rate in the world - I very much doubt it.

Mozfan · 24/12/2020 21:32

I’m hoping by February things might be looking up.

Newnamefor2021 · 24/12/2020 21:42

I doubt it, cases are through the roof here. I just cancelled a holiday to France in March.

tinytemper66 · 24/12/2020 21:48

I am in Wales and doubt we will be up to much. Our 30th wedding anniversary is at the end of February and was hoping for a few days away. I doubt this will happen.

In the south maybe, but not all over. The north is doing better than a lot of places

North.
Conwy: 85.3 (Up from 81.9)

Gwynedd: 82.7 (Unchanged)

Anglesey: 40.0 (Unchanged)

And south

Merthyr Tydfil remains the local authority with the highest infection rate in Wales with a seven-day rate of 1,225.0 cases per 100,000 population.

Bridgend has the second highest rate with 1,118.0 per 100,000 population. Blaenau Gwent is third with 981.9 cases per 100,000.

Frazzled2207 · 24/12/2020 21:53

Extremely unlikely. Even if the covid situation is enormously better, the FM is extremely keen on as many restrictions as possible.

JemmimaJones · 24/12/2020 21:56

We are in lockdown in Wales and it is in indefinite but will be reviewed every 3 weeks as in the first lockdown. No one knows what will happen as no one knows if the numbers will go up or down especially now there are two varients plus the original. I wouldnt be making plans to go anywhere until the summer when the virus will probably decline somewhat.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 24/12/2020 21:57

I’m genuinely shocked by anyone booking holidays at the moment.

boysonthesofa · 24/12/2020 22:04

Have you been watching the news?!!!

I don't think this is true. I believe Wales are actually 30th.
Sennedd · 24/12/2020 22:09

I read that Wales was second to Lithuania!

And me! I just can’t think of anything worse at the moment. It doesn’t feel right to be travelling anywhere, and quite frankly knowing Drakeford everywhere will be probably be closed anyway.
Coasterfan · 25/12/2020 02:01

I have Easter weekend in wales booked and think it is highly unlikely to go ahead so I would say feb half term is even less likely!

SomelikeitHoth · 25/12/2020 08:27

I was very omg ! when he handed me a card with the holiday details inside. Haven't spoken to him about it yet. Wales in full lockdown from 28 December.
I'm just can't understand his thought process ??!!

I very much doubt it. Roll out of the vaccine v slow in Wales too.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/12/2020 08:35

WHY would anyone do this?

I don’t think we’ve even peaked yet!

They brought the date forward. We've been in lockdown since the 20th.
Ginfordinner · 25/12/2020 08:42

TBH with so much uncertainty, and the speed with which things are changing I'm surprised that anyone is booking anything right now.

Agree.. not shocked but think it's too early to plan anything, especially until at least Easter - wait until getting the vaccine. Just because we're going into a new year it doesn't mean Covid is suddently going to disappear. We've got to be realistically positive and still be responsible. Until rates start dropping we should try to contain the spread of the new variant. I'm sure we all are gagging to go back on holiday.. I know I am, but the time has to be right and safe for everyone.
Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 25/12/2020 14:24

It is irresponsible. I don’t understand why people put moving around unnecessarily above the health of our nations. I’d ring owners up and ask to change dates to much later in the year - October half term perhaps?

Polkadot89 · 25/12/2020 15:52

Those saying wait until October half term etc holiday cottage and hotel/b&b owners won’t wait that long to open! Of course they’ll open over the summer. Tourism is one of the biggest economy boosts in Wales and other parts of the UK. By Easter hopefully things will be looking better. Still mask wearing and social distancing, but not like now.

U8myufo · 25/12/2020 15:55

To be fair, some place has taken the booking, which goes towards giving people the impression that it's a good time to visit! Nobody knows what will happen by Feb, but I would say the Christmas mingling cases will start showing up in stats around the time that lockdown is due to be reviewed so I predict that we will be in lockdown all of January.
