My brother has booked for us to go to a rental holiday home in February half term. Will this be able to go ahead?
Very kind but I am very surprised he's done this !

@Mozfan

I’m hoping by February things might be looking up.
I would imagine we’ll be knee deep in the myre. We’ll be riding the wave of Christmas covid related deaths (lag is about 3 weeks) around Feb.

You’re deluded OP

I have a holiday booked - or should I say rebooked - for the third time - for April and no doubt we won’t be going

SomelikeitHoth · 25/12/2020 21:56

@TramaDollface I am not deluded.
I did not book the holiday

Easter I think is a possibility- really depends what percentage of the population is deemed necessary to have had the vaccine in order to get economy started again. But sadly no I think we'll be in lockdown until end Feb at least.

I’m in north wales and don’t think our FM will open up to anything above tier 2, if at all, until easter.

I work for a holiday home company and we are still taking bookings for any dates after the official review date of 17th(?) January. If restrictions are still in place, we offer a full refund or allow you to move your dates.

Well I wouldn't get too excited about it - I reckon it's unlikely. My brother works for a resort in Wales and he's been furloughed (again) until Feb. Fingers crossed for you though, you never know!

Digressing a bit OP, Easter is 4 April next year and so for the vaccination programme to be making a difference by then, you have to look at who is being invited in to get their first shot on 28 Feb, then it's 3 weeks to second shot and 2 weeks after that for it to have taken effect.

So prospects for Easter getaways will depend a lot on state of vaccination end Feb (will they have reached CEV by then?) and that dies give some planning time.

I wouldn't be optimistic about breaks earlier than that, and I think your DBro has been a little precipitate. It might work, if you are in a nice low tier area and Wales has opened back up. So fingers crossed their lockdown has the intended effect.

The Welsh police were far more active in stopping and turning back people in lockdown one than their counterparts in other home nations (well, they had to be after the initial Snowdonia debacle) and I think that is an important part of making a lockdown effective

The night England went into the second lockdown and Wales was into the first week of the firebreak my son was stopped by the police on the M4 around Cardiff just after midnight.
He had been on deployment at sea and was coming home to see us.
So they do stop people. They wanted to know where he was going and where he had come from. He had his military ID. Luckily his car is still registered at home.
He is home for Christmas and I was concerned about him going back but his base is now in Tier 4 so not concerned about being stopped now.
