Full lockdown from Boxing Day?

Does anyone else think this is what will be announced?

I reckon lots more tier 4 Boxing Day, maybe lockdown in January though they won't want people going out New Years eve.

Treaclepie19 · 23/12/2020 14:08

It's certainly looking likely isn't it.
It really feels like if that's what is needed then why not now? Of course I know why not now, it just seems like they want to take the responsibility away from themselves.

november90 · 23/12/2020 14:08

I think that most of the country will be in tier 4 and I absolutely dread to hear it, but I highly think I will, school and nursery closures in tier 4 :(

CremeEggThief · 23/12/2020 14:08

Tier 4 probably.

AuntieStella · 23/12/2020 14:08

Very likely

Though it'll be called expansion of tier 4, not lockdown

Some areas might stay in lower tiers, but not very many.

And I think there may be enforcement of restriction on inter-regional travel. Hopefully with some common sense for those who live close to boundaries (maybe living one side with work/school/nearest shops etc the other) but pretty strict for everyone else

freddiethegreat · 23/12/2020 14:11

Is there even an announcement pending? I mean I know they’re meeting, but haven’t seen anything about a press conference yet - barring speculation in the papers.

FedUpOfAllThis · 23/12/2020 14:11

Yeah that might be more likely. I’ve just seen that Matt Hancock is holding the press conference and not Boris so maybe more likely just tiers changing.

DialsMavis · 23/12/2020 14:11

I just read that it is Matt Hancock announcing, surely it would be the PM if it was a national lockdown?

FedUpOfAllThis · 23/12/2020 14:11

Yeah 3pm Matt Hancock is hosting it.

For those of us in NI the tiers seems very confusing!

Assume full lockdown from Boxing Day.

AuntieStella · 23/12/2020 14:12

And start of term to be online (earliest date onsite to be 11 Jan, reviewed weekly, and separately for primaries and secondaries/6th form colleges)

DC from key worker families, the socially vulnerable have to have some sort of onsite provision, and schools will be able to opt for having those with inadequate home tech onsite to use school ones)

november90 · 23/12/2020 14:12

I wonder which areas would be next to go into tier 4? Has anyone heard anything about that?
I'm glad I got my hair cut today 🙈

FedUpOfAllThis · 23/12/2020 14:12

Yes that is just what I was thinking when I seen it on sky news.

OP posts:
FedUpOfAllThis · 23/12/2020 14:12

I’m in tier 2 where I am so we shall see.

One would hope so, but he might be a bit busy with his oven ready deal (which he clearly forgot to defrost in time)
SophieB100 · 23/12/2020 14:15

Our local press (Norfolk) reporting that we will probably go up to tier 3 or even 4. Huge rise in cases in Norwich and surrounding area.

freddiethegreat · 23/12/2020 14:15

@november90 I saw speculation that it would be the tier 2 areas adjacent to the current tier 4.

FedUpOfAllThis · 23/12/2020 14:15

Lol quite possibly.

I can’t see any mention of any press conference outside of Mumsnet. Is there one today does anyone know?

SophieB100 · 23/12/2020 14:20

Yes
Sky News - breaking news.

jillypill · 23/12/2020 14:21

I don't see the point, will all the people who are with family or in a rental somewhere leave on Boxing Day? No so why bother.

november90 · 23/12/2020 14:22

Noooo!!! I'm in Lancashire and we've had the worst time with local lockdowns and tier 3 since around august time! Tier 4 will probably hit us next 😩😩😩
