Another “angry with the neighbours for flouting the rules” thread

MrsExpo · 21/12/2020 18:25

My neighbours are both police officers - the husband is quite senior in rank. We are in Tier 3. This afternoon, their DD has arrived for christmas, clearly intending to stay for a while. She lives and works in central London, where she lives with a long term partner (he hasn’t come, as far as I know)...... What the hell is the point of having rules? Speechless really ..... Angry

@Pinotwoman82

I know a lot of people moving all around England for Christmas.
Not because they are about to kill themself, not fleeing domestic violence, not breaking up with partner but because they want to and want to.

Pinotwoman82 · 21/12/2020 21:07

But how do you know? How do you know? You don’t do you !

Lorius · 21/12/2020 21:09

I'd introduce on the spot £1000 fines for people out of the house too often or for non-essential reasons.

There would soon be far fewer people in desperate 'need' of visiting family or buying a bottle of gin Hmm

Tolacar · 21/12/2020 21:12

My family isolated and had Covid tests so we could go and see my parents in tier 2. We are tier 4. I made the sacrifice to stay at home despite the devastation and terrible sadness I find myself in. I thought I was doing the right thing by following the rules but the blatant actions of others make me feel like a fool. My mental health is suffering as I too wanted to be with my parents but my conscience is strong. It’s a bloody joke. You get no support for following the rules and you get criticised for pointing out those who are clearly selfish and flouting the rules. Yes everyone’s situation is different but we can all come up with excuses. There is no consideration for others in all this.

Whatwouldscullydo · 21/12/2020 21:13

And how do you define non essential?

Who put you in charge of deciding?

A bar of chocolate might seem non essential but if your kid is underweight ir diabetic it might be pretty important.

No one needs a box of fish fingers. Unless of course your chikd will only eat fish fingers.

Maybe if someone disnt leave the house that secind their partner would have smashed their face into a wall.

Better off minding your own business

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 21/12/2020 21:14

I honestly couldn't even get slightly bothered by that, never mind speechless ffs.

Anyway, how do you know she didn't isolate forn2 weeks then have a test before she came. I highly doubt they divulge every detail of their and their adult daughters life to their random neighbours, but of course, you know them "quite well" 🙄

LJC1234 · 21/12/2020 21:16
@LJC1234 France aren’t exactly doing great either - 40 plus deaths per 100k compared to 60 odd deaths per 100k for U.K. and macron had it too - mingling at Brussels .
We should have done all of this you listed out immediately when the first cases occurred. It was the inaction and then extremely slow action by the U.K. when other countries were examples of what to do / not do that’s caused this issue.
Now it’s the sticky plaster and the Hokey Cokey of what’s actively encouraged and allowed and then suddenly not allowed - it’s becoming farcical.
May be the plan is to push us all to the brink - where neighbours turn on neighbours and we turn to the lovely barely tested vaccines
Just FYI I was quoting someone else! None of that's my idea Smile

Oooh, policing people's shopping - that's normal.

How would that work then? Armed guards at the supermarket checkout??

Fucking stupid.

thelimitdoesnotexist · 21/12/2020 21:20

@MrsExpo

I know the family quite well. No issues in the relationship, no MH issues, partnership still intact, no safety issues.

She’s just come because she wants to be with her family at Christmas (don’t we all!!). But some of us are prepared to forego that for the greater good. Some are not. Over and out.

@MrsExpo

You have absolutely no clue if there are issues in their relationship. Do you really think you’d be privy to such personal details of your neighbours families life who you only know “quite well”??

Get off your speechless high horse thinking you’re doing it a much better than anyone else.

LifelsAPigsty · 21/12/2020 21:21

@Lorius

Frankly I think we need a proper lockdown. Too many people are not following the rules and are putting others at risk.

The rule should be- unless you are a key worker, stay the fuck at home at all times.

None of this outdoor 'exercise', meeting other households for a 'walk' (which is even allowed in tier 4 for some reason ), or trips to the Range.

Each household should be allocated one supermarket trip per week to be used for buying essentials only- not gin and chocolate

I'd also like to see something similar to the French system where people have to carry a form every time they leave home.

I would support a financial reward system for good Samaritans who report neighbours who do not stay at home.

There should be £1000 fines for rule breakers.

We would soon be able to eradicate the virus if people followed the rules and stayed the fuck at home.

Is this satire?
thelimitdoesnotexist · 21/12/2020 21:22

@Lorius Stop trying to make £1000 fines a thing!!!!! It’s so ridiculous!!!!!!

thelimitdoesnotexist · 21/12/2020 21:23

@LifelsAPigsty Lorius is posting this in all threads this evening. I can only assume it’s a wind up. Will try and report to MN.

LifelsAPigsty · 21/12/2020 21:25

@Lorius ah, I don't think it is satire. How utterly depressing.

Tell me, in this fantasyland of yours, where people still have to go out to work and mix with others, how exactly is Covid going to be eradicated?

I'll join you.

HeronLanyon · 21/12/2020 21:30

We can’t worry about rule breakers. We can wish they didn’t. we can get angry when those in power don’t set an example. I’m assuming The majority of us are following the rules as best we can and by that I mean following them. Lots will not be. We can’t change that. You either accept that or drive yourself mad !
I would only report if it was eg a house party (even then I’m not sure) or venue flouting the rules. Definitely think less of whoever if it is a clear breach.
Lots of reasons why your neighbours may not be breaching.
Not unreasonable to question it but move on (not out).

Bluntness100 · 21/12/2020 21:30

I think the ops “over and out” translated means “ yes I’m being really horrible and don’t need anyone to tell me that, so I’ll do a pretend runner from the thread”

HeronLanyon · 21/12/2020 21:31

You will have absolutely no idea about mental health issues op.

You cannot possibly know any of that for certain since none of it is stuff that they are likely to advertise publicly to people who are not close family or friends.

You are neither of those. You are loosely acquainted as a near neighbour.

I vaguely know my neighbours - their names, how many children they have etc, sometimes whether their DS has a girlfriend, but no details. Nor would I expect to know. I certainly have no idea about the state of their mental health and it is none of my business.

user1486131602 · 21/12/2020 21:46

They are allowed one other household, their daughter, to visit over Xmas
Please just make sure you are safe, stuff what they do!
Health is wealth!

What do you have against Gin Xmas Hmm

Feministicon · 21/12/2020 22:02

@ImNotCutOutForThis

Live and let live. I can't get worked up about it. A friend of mine is a gp receptionist. On her fb was her and the GPS , nurses and clerical staff all out having a Xmas doo

3 tables of 6. All hugging, posing, selfies etc. Bottles of wine flowing.

🤔
ElephantWhaleRabbit · 21/12/2020 22:04

When do people have the time to monitor what their neighbours are doing?? Seriously, get a brew, maybe a mince pie, and watch Homes Under the Hammer.

Sunshinelove8 · 21/12/2020 22:06

@LJC1234 sorry! That comment was @Lorius

How do you know what is the ‘greater good’ for everyone?

The Greater Good is a utilitarian concept and just because you think isolating defines the greater good, others might think that the greater good means seeing family when they are at the end of their tether / it’s their last Christmas together / because there’s no risk (they’ve reduced it as far as possible)

One day, you have to accept that your greater good is not everyone’s greater good

It’s being grown up
