Surely we’ll all be in full lockdown very soon?

With the recent travel bans and now freight banned from France, Hancock saying the new variant is ‘out of control’ etc - how long can it be until the whole UK is in lockdown? A few days maybe?

Commiserations re Tier 4. I'm currently in Tier 2 but would much rather have a full lockdown if it meant getting a handle of the situation faster.

I really can't see a viable alternative unfortunately.

DD sort-of has a new boyfriend. But we’re tier 4 and he’s tier 2

It’s a whole new take on star-crossed lovers Xmas Grin

PhilCornwall1 · 21/12/2020 09:22

Honestly I'd welcome a full, nationwide lockdown.

Fine to say that if your livelihood isn't going to be impacted.

Personally, it's the last thing I want to see happen. There have been enough people financially screwed this year as it is.

willsantausesantatize · 21/12/2020 09:23

I feel for people in tier 2 and 3.

Lovemusic33 · 21/12/2020 09:23

@cherryblossomx3

ah it's all bullshit. Doesn't work. Will just resurface when we let everyone out again. Meanwhile people loose their livelihoods. Mental health continues to deteriorate and suicide rates continue to rise. Domestic violence cases carry on climbing, children in abusive homes fall through the cracks. Future generations pay for this for the rest of their lives so their mental health also falls apart. The government continue to play the south/north political game so they can stand a chance at getting voted in again. In the meantime everyone argues amongst themselves over who's fault it is when really it is no ones fault as it is a virus and spreading is what it does.

Merry bloody Christmas.

I agree with last lockdowns but this time there is a vaccine, a lockdown could save many lives because the vulnerable will be vaccinated in the coming month/s. It’s also about easing pressure on the NHS. So when we come out of this lockdown we won’t see such a big rise in cases as many will be vaccinated.
cherryblossomx3 · 21/12/2020 09:25

@Lovemusic33

Says who? Says the government? Says the scientists? I'm supposed to believe a word they say?

And the financial side of it? The future generations?

There is other things that matter. Sick of it.

I totally understand why the Cornish pubs turning people away that have second homes there , but I bet the person that sold them the second home is now sitting on a nice pile of money from the sale of said house. They didn't worry about their local people not being able to afford their own home and was happy to sell it to them knowing they had a first home! I know you can't choose your buyers but they could have rented it out to a local instead if they are so worried about being overrun with ' outsiders' ! I can see Cornwall wanting independence once the vaccine has been rolled out completely at this rate.
This post makes no sense what so ever.

I bet most people selling dont even know if their buyer is a second home buyer nor are well enough off to have the luxury of choice.

The way you phrase it, it sounds like these Cornish people all had 6 houses themselves!!! And are in a financial position to rent out. I do wonder how this fits with people who have died too.

Just utterly bizarre to blame ordinary people who live in an area of the country with low wages for selling homes to wealthy people. The whole point of power dynamics and money doesn't seem to have entered the logic.

HappyHomeWorker · 21/12/2020 09:28

Tier 4 and full lockdown?*

cologne4711 · 21/12/2020 09:29

FFS yes. Accents from places currently in tier 3, pretty obvious what I meant. Not difficult is it

Well actually it is, because I live in tier 2 but know people with local accents, London accents, Liverpool accents, Manchester accents, Leeds/West Yorkshire accents and Welsh/Scottish accents.

I know there's a sizeable number of people in the UK who don't like "free movement" but people can live anywhere they want in the UK, they don't have to stay where they were born!

cologne4711 · 21/12/2020 09:30

I totally understand why the Cornish pubs turning people away that have second homes there I very much doubt this, pub owners need every bit of business they can get.

Lovemusic33 · 21/12/2020 09:30

Tier 4 and full lockdown?*
Pretty sure there’s no difference other than a full lockdown will be the whole uk rather than just some areas with high cases.
itsgettingweird · 21/12/2020 09:31

It'll happen before 31St.

Review of tiers due 30th. Think we'll be told morning of 31St we are in month long lockdown.

It will be past the rime of students returning to schools to see what effect that has and we know they are planning a staggered start and theirs chat of all teaching staff/education staff being tested before returning too.

I think they do need to make it illegal to have a gathering at new year.

The more this gets out of control the longer our lockdown to regain control.

Just look at March.

PhilCornwall1 · 21/12/2020 09:31

but this time there is a vaccine, a lockdown could save many lives

And you have cast iron evidence to back this up?

Enough damage has been caused by locking down. It cannot and should not continue.

JS87 · 21/12/2020 09:34

Maybe once the Oxford vaccine is approved? Depending on how much of it is made and ready to be delivered they might lock down and ramp up vaccinations as quickly as possible? When are more Pfizer shipments due?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 21/12/2020 09:41

IMO it’s about time they moved teens and probably early 20s students, too, way up the priority vaccination list. Around here anyway, they’re the ones I see congregating in not-remotely-socially-distanced groups outside Starbucks etc. - nobody wearing a mask.

Blacktothepink · 21/12/2020 09:41

Yep, lockdown in time for Brexit chaos Xmas Wink

baroqueandblue · 21/12/2020 09:41

Ffs, what would you lot moan and alarm people about with your doom and gloom superforecasts if it wasn't for covid? Confused

I hereby second any Biscuits that have been offered.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 21/12/2020 09:44

I do think children should move up the list, if the main spread is in workplaces, care homes and schools then stopping the spread there will impact everywhere else. Especially given that schools have very little, if any, social distancing so a more contagious strain will be horrendous if it gets into schools.

perhaps but I think there is a clear evidence for teachers to come before school children as they are more likely to become seriously ill than the children.

I read this on a thread about Cornwall ( not sure which one )
bellinisurge · 21/12/2020 09:47

@baroqueandblue , Johnson was deriding everyone suggesting further action on Wednesday. Then he had his arse handed to him on Friday and Uturned for London. Maybe you should start being a sensible grown up about this instead of a Johnson clone.

But it is really bad, Sainsbury's have reported a shortage of green vegetables and citrus fruits. We now really are in the shit!!
willsantausesantatize · 21/12/2020 09:51

I was just making the point that the locals in these beauty spots ( Cornwall etc) are happy to sell their homes for a profit to people from outside the area.
It must be the case because they are buying them from someone , somewhere.
I'm not judging them at all but you can't moan about tourists or second home owners when the sellers are selling them on to them then tun their noses up when they want to come and live in your village!
It's a tricky situation.
