Going on holiday

Not sure how to create a poll So if you could please share your opinion.

Our holiday to a very safe destination had not been cancelled. Flight still going ahead.
We had been isolating for over a week and paid for expensive pre travel PCRs for all of us.
If our PCRs are all negative, why should we not go?
How is this fair?!?
I worked from home and hardly had seen any people all year.
We had not been anywhere for the whole year.
Desperate for some sunshine and walks.

Christ sake.

No, you can't go abroad on holiday right at the present time. Hmm

PimlicoJo · 20/12/2020 17:26

My friends are going on holiday tomorrow. They live in a Tier 4 area with one of the highest number of cases in England. They will go unless their holiday is cancelled.

TheAirbender · 20/12/2020 17:26

It is Dubai, please don’t come. We’ve got hoards of people from London coming every day ... I dread to think of the impact come Jan.

Brighterthansunflowers · 20/12/2020 17:27

You really have to ask why you shouldn’t travel abroad in the middle of a pandemic for a completely nonessential holiday? FFS there really is no hope for this country is there

baublesbaubleseverywhere · 20/12/2020 17:28

@LovingLen yes you're right, I missed that.
But I'd still make the point about insurance. Once this all started the OP needed to prioritise getting insurance, if they didn't already have it. And if they did, make sure it covered them for all eventualities.
It's an utterly rubbish situation, but of years, this is the one where having comprehensive travel insurance is absolutely vital.

Tui have cancelled all their flights. I'd hope other holiday companies would do similar since it's illegal to go on holiday for a significant number of the population.
IrmaFayLear · 20/12/2020 17:37

The OP says she booked her holiday in January. Well, so did I and cancelled it pdq when there was a - you know - pandemic .

Agree that it’s pretty selfish of people to want to travel to less covid-y countries. I doubt whether we would have appreciated it if scores of people from Ebola-stricken areas had tipped up in Cornwall for a break.

Bobbybobbins · 20/12/2020 17:37

I would say it's not worth it and I love going on holiday. As well as the obvious potential for taking the virus abroad or catching it on holiday, lots of countries have cancelled all flights from the UK today. You may not be able to get home. It's a very fast moving situation

DuncinToffee · 20/12/2020 17:38

@MrsTerryPratchett

Going from Tier 4 to a very safe place.

It's all a bit cunty, isn't it?

Exactly
FourTeaFallOut · 20/12/2020 17:41

But I booked my holiday three years ago. It's just bleeding from the eyeballs. I really need a break. My neighbour's best friend's cousin got to go and everything was fiiine!

damnthemanatee · 20/12/2020 18:15

If you somehow manage to go @BEANBAG765 I really hope you won't be stamping your feet when you and your family can't get home.

ChasingRainbows19 · 20/12/2020 19:19

Also the all in together thing only really counts when it affects you? Anyone one travelling out of the U.K. whatever tier is ridiculous right now and I’m glad countries are stopping them. This will never end if we don’t take some accountability for our actions. Restrictions will continue while it’s out of control and if people insist of bending them to their needs it will go on and on....

This is pretty serious considering countries are literally closing their borders to us by the hour. It’s a pandemic. I get it’s disappointing but everyone of us have encountered disappointment or much worse this year.

MadameBlobby · 20/12/2020 20:04

A lot of countries aren’t allowing flights from U.K. due to the new strain

LazyMaureen · 20/12/2020 20:26

As you're in tier 4, I'm pretty sure you can't go.

LazyMaureen · 20/12/2020 20:27

Plus I really wouldn't risk leaving the country at the moment, in case you can't get back in.
