Mass evacuation of London

madcatladyforever · 20/12/2020 09:36

just seen yesterdays videos of the mass evacuation of people from London to go and spend christmas elsewhere before it's too late.
Well done Londeners thanks for spreading the virus mutation ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.
Now waiting for tier 4 all over the country in the new year.
Because your christmas is so much more important than anybody elses health.
This is how it all started, no action in Wuhan, a few days later it's been flown all over the world, fantastic.
Mark my words the new year will be hell.

I’m in London and I don’t know a single person who has left.We are still here. Working. Not freaking out. Just getting the fuck on with things

AcornAutumn · 20/12/2020 11:44

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee

Mark my words the new year will be hell Ma Shipton is that you? I swear to god, it’s uncanny. I mean how could you possibly foresee upset & disruption? On what basis....
Oh I always wanted to go to Ma Shipton’s place, it was on my list this year!

I do think 2021 will be grim due to restrictions. I don’t believe anything will change due to the vaccine but I’m probably due for it in October anyway.

AcornAutumn · 20/12/2020 11:46

@baroqueandblue

Ffs OP could you have chosen a more alarmist title or were they all sold out?! I live in London, saw your title in the trending list and nearly shat myself. As it is there's no end to the emergency services sirens where I live, I don't need more scaremongering thanks very much. Jesus Hmm
I understand

I’m worried they’ll shut the Tube and attempt to Uber essential workers everywhere. I need the Tube to provide care for mum, before anyone has kittens, I don’t use it for fun.

Livelovebehappy · 20/12/2020 11:47

Weirdly, when infections were high up here, London were allowed to remain in their tier two bubble. And the North were slammed into tier 3, where we have remained despite our infection rate going down. Now the infections are through the roof in the South, you would think rightfully that Londoners go into a high tier. But the North have also been penalised by us having the Xmas 5 day bubble cancelled. Guess it’s just not possible for London to think that anyone else in the UK might be able to do something that they can’t.

Faultymain5 · 20/12/2020 11:47

I have to say OP if you didnt think we were going to be locked down after Christmas you've been watching the wrong movie.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 20/12/2020 11:47

Ma shipton cave, yes it’s really atmospheric, very woo hoo. Auld ma shipton she’d undoubtedly have foreseen this.

Off topic, but Ma Shipton's Cave is a huge anti-climax if you grew up in a hard water area. Might as well offer tours of the inside of my parents' kettle.

I'm a Londoner thinking of fleeing to the North. Please guv 'ave a heart and let me in.
I want to lead the tribes of London on a 40 day exodus. How far north can we get in 40 days? Google Maps keeps telling me to get an Uber.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 20/12/2020 11:50

attempt to Uber essential workers everywhere What? Christ we travel on public transport like everyone else. There is no Uber fleet
Taxi at xmas to/from work on the bank holiday
Routinely ferried about in a fleet of Uber. Naw

BestWatcherInTheUnit · 20/12/2020 11:51

I think the people saying "it's just normal Friday night commuter traffic" are being a little disingenuous. I live about five minutes' walk from a major railway terminus (think Victoria, King's Cross) and have used the tube fairly frequently since March to get to work, and have also made journeys out of Paddington etc. It has been extremely quiet compared to how it was before. I haven't seen anything like Y since before March. It's on a completely different scale to the usual post-March traffic.

Having said that, I can't get worked up about it. It was utterly predictable. By now, the new strain will be all over the country anyway, this isn't going to make any difference.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 20/12/2020 11:51

Lol, loving this for sardonic quips⬇️

Eeeeh, sorreh lass. Love to help but t'spare room's full of whippets.
mumsneedwine · 20/12/2020 11:52

I didn't see one suitcase in those pictures. So assume everyone 'fleeing' intends to spend the next few weeks naked. Happy Christmas to them 🎄

HeronLanyon · 20/12/2020 11:52

As a tier 4 zone 1 stay putter I assumed most were not Londoners but going to home cities/towns elsewhere to family. Surely ?
But anyway a distraction because surely we are all in this together and all working for the protection of all of us.
Tier 4 behaving to try to reduce press of variant in particular. All of us behaving so the most vulnerable won’t overwhelm the nhs thereby endangering every single one of us with no effective health service for all conditions.
Support all - NSEW. (Even south London Grin)

millymokk · 20/12/2020 11:52

That's Londoners isn't it? It's not them spreading the virus just because they're sodding off to their second homes for the holidays. They're all so very clever the virus knows to leave them be.

Chip much?

It's not London's fault that the rules have changed around Xmas. Three households mixing for 5 days was always ridiculous. It just took the government a ridiculous amount of time to admit they were wrong.
merrymouse · 20/12/2020 11:52

9 million people live in London. Many more people have to travel through a London station to get home. Most people who live in London weren't born there and so have family elsewhere.

If you assume that only a minority of people have caring responsibilities or are legitimately part of a bubble elsewhere, I am sure that is still less than the number of people who could easily fit on all the trains from St Pancra's between the time of the announcement yesterday and midnight.

I find the anti-Londoner sentiment very odd because what other reason would there be to get a train to Leeds for Christmas than to go home?

Toadintheroad · 20/12/2020 11:53

I’ve just been out and about in zone 2 London and saw loads of people I knew, and parks were packed. Not sure if London is deserted at all. But really op is this thread helpful? Mark your words!? So dramatic. Even if this is true why do you think feat mongering is going to help?

merrymouse · 20/12/2020 11:53

Londoners with second homes will not be squeezing themselves onto trains.

Other areas do have something that Londoners don't. They get to mix on Christmas Day.

Skipsurvey · 20/12/2020 11:53

that is Boris for you
the rules should have been changed earlier.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 20/12/2020 11:53

When I first came to ldn and my kettle got all crusty, I threw it out. Thought I’d a dodgy kettle
Till someone told me. That’s how it is, get used to a kettle with bits

Skipsurvey · 20/12/2020 11:54

my dd left london in March, under cover of darkness
nobody made a fuss,
All the students left their universities in March, well nearly all.
did people turn on each other like this!
it is so Black Mirror

sofiaaaaaa · 20/12/2020 11:54

Well done Londeners thanks for spreading the virus mutation ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.

To actual born and bred Londoners, London is home and where Christmas will be spent. It’s the gentrifiers whose “home” is in Surrey or the North or whatever that are escaping, they’re not real Londoners! We don’t claim them, they’re the same as you👐🏻
