Mass evacuation of London

madcatladyforever · 20/12/2020 09:36

just seen yesterdays videos of the mass evacuation of people from London to go and spend christmas elsewhere before it's too late.
Well done Londeners thanks for spreading the virus mutation ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.
Now waiting for tier 4 all over the country in the new year.
Because your christmas is so much more important than anybody elses health.
This is how it all started, no action in Wuhan, a few days later it's been flown all over the world, fantastic.
Mark my words the new year will be hell.

It's not like Hull was full of Londoners looking for a place at the inn last night

Xmas Grin

How do you know they are Londoners? I'm a Londoner, all my family live close, why would I randomly travel to another part of the country?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 20/12/2020 10:16

Do you even know what evacuation means. OP?

BewareTheBeardedFatMan · 20/12/2020 10:17

If 150 people bring it from London then Glasgow has lost a month where they could have been preparing, increasing restrictions to slow the spread and vaccinating the vulnerable.

But it's already in Scotland.

What a load of nonsense from beginning to end. I can't even be bothered to go through the various points 🙄
GachaBread · 20/12/2020 10:18

This government and the media have done a right number on the people. Got you all turning on each other, I thought the gang culture with postcode wars was bad but this is a whole new level....

London and surrounding areas were all tier 2 a few days ago and now this. The government must have known about this new strain for some time and they also knew that announcing a tier 4 restriction would send people out in droves not just to escape out of the area, but last minute xmas shopping, beauty treatments, to move money, stock out of businesses that now have to close etc

millymokk · 20/12/2020 10:21

Tbh all the threads have been blaming Londoners which logically make sense. I haven't seen one thread the other way around.

Cowmilk · 20/12/2020 10:22

After looking news papers for images or videos off packed train stations, yabu! That is nothing compared to normal rush hour traffic. Ok, I haven’t traveled since the pandemic started so I can only compare it to pre pandemic memory. People are still being socially distant and things look very calm.

MrsGradyOldLady · 20/12/2020 10:22

Well it's been circulating since September so wind your neck in OP. They government have done exactly what they did before Eid - waited until people had put their money into the economy to prepare for their celebrations and then banned them at the last minute. What a remarkable coincidence 🙄

Ifailed · 20/12/2020 10:24

Yep, they had a secret meeting, all 10 million of them, and agreed to spread it ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.

Jbh333 · 20/12/2020 10:24

Daily mail love to post an article to whip up a bit of divide about SE vs the rest of the country.

London has loads of people living and working here from all over the country maybe they were trying to get back to there hometowns?!

Makes me laugh on the daily mail comments people think all Londoners are mega rich, second home owners that can swan off at a moments notice and are selfish stuck up.

AntiHop · 20/12/2020 10:24

I'm a londoner and the video of st pancras last night was not a normal night. That was an intercity train so not likely to be full of commuters who would usually be travelling home a few miles. There were lots of people with suitcases. That was clear evidence of people floating the rules.

Teddy1970 · 20/12/2020 10:25

Surely these people are Northerners who work in London are going back home? If you are a true Londoner living and working in London why would you just randomly pick a place in the North and think "yup, I fancy going to Newcastle five days before Christmas, I don't know anyone or have any family there but fuck it, I'll go anyway" these SE bashing threads are getting on my fucking tits.

Ingot · 20/12/2020 10:27

Put away your rabble rousing Daily Mail FFS. There has been no mass evacuation. We are still here apart from some Northerners going home. Stop whipping up divisions. There's enough of them already. Just fuck off

User158340 · 20/12/2020 10:27

@SantasBritchesSpelleas

I have to say, the pictures I saw online didn't show particularly crowded stations. As a regular train traveller, I've seen far more crowded stations on a normal day.
It's not a normal day though. On a normal Saturday 60 thousand people pack into a football ground. The trains have been quiet since March so a normal busy Saturday is a big deal given current case numbers.
AcornAutumn · 20/12/2020 10:28

@ThePlantsitter

It is not a "mass evacuation". It looked like any normal pre-covid Friday night to me on the news pictures. I'm not saying people should have done it but get some perspective.
Honestly, this title.

Mass evacuation. I can assure you, we’re still here.

hf2345 · 20/12/2020 10:29

Good for them hope they hve a lovely chrismas with there families

AcornAutumn · 20/12/2020 10:29

@Apandemicyousay

These are going to be non-Londoners going home. Why would Londoners be leaving days before Christmas? This variant is already all over UK, it’s more prevalent in London & Kent
Also true.
Al1langdownthecleghole · 20/12/2020 10:29

@bunwell

Having been identified in September, the new strain will be throughout the Uk already.
This.
AnneLovesGilbert · 20/12/2020 10:30

You’re having a goady week, I’ll give you that.

lynsey91 · 20/12/2020 10:31

According to the Mail it's "desperate people leaving"!

Why are they desperate? I didn't realise they are escaping from a war. It's ONE bloody day which they do not need to spend with others unless maybe they are alone and looking at the pictures there were mainly couples and families.

So many pathetic and selfish people. Are they so desperate for some turkey and a mince pie? So desperate for presents?

ceeveebee · 20/12/2020 10:31

It may well have looked like a normal Friday night. But it was a Saturday night.

LuluJakey1 · 20/12/2020 10:31

They were told quite clearly last night that they should not travel outside the south-east, even then, never mind after midnight last night. The trains were to Leeds, Manchester and the North.

MothExterminator · 20/12/2020 10:32

OP (and others), can we please try to not group all people from an area into the same stereotype?

People in London often live in tiny flats with no outdoor space. Lockdown is hard.

And even so, we (and I believe countless others) have just cancelled all plans for Christmas and will now spend the coming weeks in a small flat. Starting from scratch with Christmas food preparation. Telling the children that all the isolating in order to be able to safely see grandparents and cousins was for nothing.

The ones of us who follow the rules are depressed enough without seeing London bashing. How about “some idiot Londoners”? Please?

sunflowerstory · 20/12/2020 10:32

Why would a "Londoner" take themselves off on a Christmas jolly to Grimsby?

If you're committed to taking a divisive stance, it's not Londoners who are travelling.
