Has anyone been fined?

Just curious if anyone has been fined for breaking covid restrictions?
Hear a lot about 'you could be fined...' but I've not heard of it actually happening apart from businesses holding big weddings etc

OP posts:

it

LadyLazaruss · 20/12/2020 07:38

Sorry - didn't mean that!

I don't know anyone at all, and a lot of people in my close circle haven't been following the rules.

damnthemanatee · 20/12/2020 07:50

I read yesterday that a student has been fined 10k after his third offence of throwing a party.
Good, selfish little shit.

Would they tell you? I suspect if any of my friends or family got a fine they wouldn't advertise it as they'd be ashamed.
Piwlyfbicsly · 20/12/2020 08:00

I only know one business being fined for staying open.

JanetPudding · 20/12/2020 08:01

My colleague did - her mums neighbour dobbed them in when she was taking her kids to her mums for childcare when that wasn't allowed. After several calls and a visit from the police they issued fines for her and her mum. Then after more phone calls they withdrew it.

FabbyMagic · 20/12/2020 08:02

Hmmm are you basically seeing if you are likely to get away with breaking rules/law?

LadyLazaruss · 20/12/2020 08:03

@damnthemanatee

Absolutely. Everyone is very open.

Hairwizard · 20/12/2020 08:04

Anybody grassing their neighbours up are fucking scum. Lowest of the low quite frankly.

LadyLazaruss · 20/12/2020 08:04

And that's not me praising them before anyone starts. I'm just giving my personal experience.

ChristmasTreeFairy5000 · 20/12/2020 08:05

Nope.

I'm not going to incriminate myself on MN, but no I have never been caught, let alone fined.

I'm aware that a lot of police forces are only issuing fines as a last resort, depending on the circumstances etc.

TBF, this has been sprung on the police last minute too. They won't have the resources to send patrols round to everyone's house on boxing day.

Goandplay · 20/12/2020 08:06

We know of 2 people. £1000 each. The first person was had a table booked in restaurant. Didn’t go but rest of the booking went. She was self isolating. They fined her for going out as she couldn’t prove she didn’t go.
The second was legitimately deserved for not self isolating.

Skipsurvey · 20/12/2020 08:08

someone told me someone was fined but tbh i think it was a web of lies, they allegedly were going from London in April to heir second house that they were doing up, in the south, just to check on it, and were fined £1000, but i could find no reference to that possibly happening on the government website

The person who hadn't broken rules should have refused and let it go to court.

They couldn't prove she was there either and she was likely able to prove she wasn't as no payments made by card, use of phone at home at same time.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/12/2020 08:14

This is only playground hearsay but a local kids football team got fined £10k for not insisting parents stayed in small groups 2m apart while watching. (This was September/October time)

ChristmasTreeFairy5000 · 20/12/2020 08:15

@itsgettingweird is right. They should have contested it. They have to proce you were there. A name on a piece of paper doesn't mean you're there.

UghNotThisAgain36 · 20/12/2020 08:18

We were in my brothers back garden at a distance to see my niece for her 1st birthday and the police turned up at the door as one of the neighbours 'dobbed' him in. No fines though, just threats.

I reported a massive party (30+ people) happening next door to me and the police refused to come out.

The new rules are utterly unenforceable, and the public know it. People will do exactly as they please.

Jumanji89 · 20/12/2020 08:20

I know two people fined for not quarantining after going abroad.

DollyParton2 · 20/12/2020 08:24

If this is about Christmas Day the Met have openly said they WONT be going around knocking on doors, that Boris new Tier 4 is basically unenforceable and they don’t have powers of entry anyway.

LunaLoveFood · 20/12/2020 08:24

The local press stated that the person who organised a protest against the lockdown that had over 100 people attend was fined £10000 and 2 people that attended were fined £1000 (and were arrested for assaulting police officers).

FreeFallingFree · 20/12/2020 08:24

A friend's daughter's friend was apparently fined £10k for an illegal house party. I was initially dubious because people do make nonsense up about fines - I've seen some obviously fake things on social media shared by people who really should know better - but the case was reported in the press and the time, street and surrounding detail all checked out.

MoChridhe · 20/12/2020 08:31

I know someone who works in the council. He has issued fines to a many non essential shops that shouldn't have been open.

HikeForward · 20/12/2020 08:33

Since I tested positive NHS Tracing have phoned me daily to ensure I’m still isolating and not going out! They remind me I’ll be fined if I don’t isolate. God knows why they think I’m going to break the rules! I’m so breathless I can barely walk around the house let alone go anywhere, even if I wanted to. And I wouldn’t risk spreading this for anything.

Surely that’s easily overturned? the police need to prove she was at the restaurant?

McFarts · 20/12/2020 08:40

My sister works for the police, and yes fines are being issued, the frequency of this happing has increased significantly since September.
