Why do people keep saying that others are prolonging this?

It’s driving me mad! It’s a virus! Socialising isn’t prolonging it or setting us back, it’s making it risky for the nhs to manage. Of course that’s something we need to consider but wake up! There’s other illnesses, mental health being key here, that matter.

The virus isn’t going away. Tiers or no tiers. It’s a virus! It mutates, as all Coronaviruses do. I’m so sick of the virtue signalling like meeting a friend for a coffee has caused the virus to stay around longer. It hasn’t.

Stop making people feel bad for needing their friends and family enough to risk transmission. Am I really on my own with this?!

housemdwaswrong · 20/12/2020 00:27

Because people have given up a lot to follow the guidance, and others haven't bothered maybe?

Raiseny · 20/12/2020 00:29

But it makes no difference to the virus, it’s here to stay. The only thing it makes a difference to is the impact on the nhs. So far everyone who has needed covid treatment has had it.

Seriously? Do you understand how viruses work? Of course socialising is prolonging it. You mix with people, you pass it to them. They mix with people, they pass it on. And so on. If you stop socialising you don't pass it on. It's not difficult to understand comments about others prolonging this. I for one and furious that I've stuck rigidly to the rules while other have taken the piss, and now I can't see my family over Christmas, or any time soon.

Raiseny · 20/12/2020 00:31

@Nordman so you want to stay locked inside indefinitely or until everyone is vaccinated?

You do realise that doesn’t make this go away any quicker?

OP posts:
Raiseny · 20/12/2020 00:32

It’s not prolonging the virus ...!!!!

OP posts:
housemdwaswrong · 20/12/2020 00:33

But they've only had treatment at the expense of everything else. Hospitals have shut down routine surgeries and clinics to accommodate covid... now, even that's not enough. My surgery was supposed to be February, and I haven't had a routine 3 monthly appt with my consultant for a year.

So if it's here to stay, what would you suggest we do? Nothing?

AcornAutumn · 20/12/2020 00:34

I hear you OP.

That doesn’t mean socialising is prolonging it. Actually, it means that not socialising is prolonging it. OP is right.
onedayinthefuture · 20/12/2020 00:34

Absolutely agree OP. The virus certainly didn't cause huge spikes in the summer when people were on packed beaches, busy theme parks etc. I would guess it's schools and most other things starting back in September oh, and the fact it's winter. Don't criminalise people for wanting some humanity. There are worse things than this virus (a hell of a lot worse things) but we are all being brainwashed into believing Covid is all that matters.

Mrsmorton · 20/12/2020 00:34

Op. You need to rephrase your question. I've been living like a monk since March. Am now in tier 4. I know I'm not fucking passing the virus on so someone else must be.

YouJustDoYou · 20/12/2020 00:34

Because they expect the world.to revolve around them.

housemdwaswrong · 20/12/2020 00:35

@ghoulbG so it would be outside waiting if it had no human host?

onedayinthefuture · 20/12/2020 00:36

Well aren't you lucky. Thousands of people don't get the choice having to work or go to school.

Raiseny · 20/12/2020 00:40

@Mrsmorton passing it on is irrelevant. It’s a virus and it’s with us. Whether you contract it or not doesn’t impact whether it stays around. In fact absent a vaccine it’s likely to be around longer without being able to spread. I’m not suggesting we do that but had everyone isolated completely since March (impossible) then the virus would still be here now regardless. If I were you I’d start living a little.

No, of course not, but absolutely no one with a brain in their head is proposing that we get to a point where it has no human host in this country.

ElephantWhaleRabbit · 20/12/2020 00:41

It gives them a “bogey man” to focus their anger and fear on.

Blaming wide spread rule breaking is more palatable than the truth - i.e. that the virus is now endemic and can’t be stopped unless we all hide under the bed for the next decade.

Tell that to New Zealand and the Isle of Man. They've got no cases. Because they have decent leadership

Raiseny · 20/12/2020 00:44

@housemdwaswrong not nothing, no. But locking everyone up is impossible and has its own issues and fall out to come.

Those suggesting that transmitting the virus prolongs its presence are really lacking in brain power.

OP posts:
housemdwaswrong · 20/12/2020 00:46

No, I didn't say that. But you said that that not socialising it is prolonging it. How does that work? The virus isn't going to survive outside with no host. So if it has fewer hosts because people are not socialising so are not transmitting it how is that prolonging it?

Yellowsubmaryne · 20/12/2020 00:46

Stop making people feel bad for needing their friends and family enough to risk transmission

Stop breaking the fucking rules and putting us all into lockdown. Of course socialisation is spreading the virus.

Virus spread = more hospital admissions = tighter restrictions = even worse mental health. Not rocket science.

My mental health would be much better if we hadn’t been put in T4. But thanks to people who think like you, my social options have been severely restricted and I can’t even meet my family for a socially distanced walk. Thanks a lot, I hope your coffees were worth it.

housemdwaswrong · 20/12/2020 00:47

@raiseny okay. I'm obviously dim (cheers for that btw). Talk me through your explanation of how viruses aren't transmitted by socialising. I'll try my best to understand.

Raiseny · 20/12/2020 00:47

@SleepingStandingUp the Isle of Man does have cases but it’s easier to manage as there’s barely anyone on the island. Can’t speak for NZ as don’t know enough about it.

England, like all the other countries will have to deal with this and live with it. It is absurd to expect we can control it to the extent that it is stopped. It’s almost amusing (if it weren’t so sad) that people seem to believe this

OP posts:
Raiseny · 20/12/2020 00:49

@housemdwaswrong I didn’t say you were dim. I didn’t say viruses weren’t transmitted through socialising.

I said socialising doesn’t prolong the presence of the virus. The virus is here to stay or until every person is vaccinated. Subject to it contributing to mutate of course, which it will do.

OP posts:
Nordman · 20/12/2020 00:49

Whether you contract it or not doesn’t impact whether it stays around.

It literally does. FFS, it's no wonder we are in the current mess with people believing this.
I can only hope you started this thread to pick fights and get attention. You can't seriously be so stupid naive.
