Quick poll: who intends to continue with Xmas plans in tier 4?

To help with my discussions with family who were due to come entirely within the rules as they were pre 4pm!

Genuinely in a total quandary as to what to say- all low risk people but it’s our decision as our house. If I thought that a big chunk of the affected population would “rebel” or that everyone else was towing the line that might help, so thanks in advance.

Decided not to take my kids to see family for a day as planned already after seeing first hand how a local hospital has all but collapsed. But going from tier 2 to 4 to see my mum as is in our bubble, I'll and alone.

Will be more of a short mercy dash now and re evaluate in the new year.

So in a nutshell, the plans have gone out the window.

Summer2021please · 19/12/2020 19:46

I can understand. Of course it’s guidelines but the guidelines haven’t really helped long term so far so I don’t blame anyone for not trusting them. How long are we going to have to lockdown them come back out then lockdown again? I’ve followed the rules but it’s getting stupid.

I’m in tier 1 so not bad but what baffles me I could meet 5 friends in a pub all week yet can only see one family on one day! I only really intended to see my family for one day anyway but didn’t plan Christmas Day. Would it really make any difference if I didn’t see them Christmas Day and opted for Christmas Eve instead? Seeing them for one day anyway!

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 19/12/2020 19:47

We have just dismantled our Christmas.

The worst thing is grandparents (with dementia) desperately looking forward to seeing grandchildren. But we are too much of a risk, if this new strain is more easily transmitted.

It's just shit.

But really, it worked when we did proper lock down in the summer. Fucking about just prolongs the agony.

We didn’t have a lockdown in summer?
Petronius16 · 19/12/2020 19:49

to “virtual normality” by November, “hopefully in time for Christmas”. Over by Christmas

Said PM to Parliament, reported July 15 2020.

nugget396 · 19/12/2020 19:50

Still going ahead with our plans.

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 19/12/2020 19:51

@RunningFromInsanity

We cancelled. Is one Christmas alone really that bad? We have the vaccine now. There is an end in sight if we follow the rules now.
I don't think it's just about 'one' christmas. For me, it is the flim flamming of this government and the buffoon that leads it. I have spent money on food, drink and presents for people I am not not going to be able to see. People are allowed to be angry and disappointed.
Hopeisnotastrategy · 19/12/2020 19:53

Just stay home.

PrettyCherryBlossom · 19/12/2020 19:54

We’ve cancelled. It’s awful and depressing but the thought of spreading this new strain is even worse.
People need to adhere to the rules to give us a chance of getting through this more quickly. Sick of hearing about people bending the rules to suit their circumstances (except for terminally ill people).

MrJinxyCat · 19/12/2020 19:54

Tier 4 and cancelled our plans even though I’d taken kids out of school early to isolate, very selfish of those carrying on like they deserve it more than anyone else...you don’t!

RunnerDown · 19/12/2020 19:55

In Scotland. Where numbers are low. But totally prepared to cancel Christmas plans and go back into lockdown if it stops rapid spread of the virus. It’s a no brainer

Mayra1367 · 19/12/2020 19:55

The less people keep to the guidance the longer we will all be in this mess .
A vaccine is now being rolled out and hopefully the end is in sight .
We haven’t seen family since February a will be spending Christmas in our bubble. I can understand people’s frustration but hope people don’t just keep ignore the latest guidance.

FuzzyPuffling · 19/12/2020 19:55

Did you think we were only being asked to stay at home for 3 weeks in March?

When I go for a walk tomorrow- small flat, no garden - will you be out there too shouting at others who dare to go for a walk?

No of course not. Don't be daft. Stay in you home area, if I need to spell it out (Obviously I do)

Helocariad · 19/12/2020 19:57

I understand people are angry and disappointed and I feel for people in Tier 4! Our family live abroad so we never even made plans to visit this Christmas. Living in Wales we are sticking to the rules of seeing one other household on Christmas Day.

nugget396 · 19/12/2020 19:57

Crazy how many people think the vaccine is the “cure all” and the end of this whole thing.

I care for my mother who is miles away. I go by public transport. Life happens.
Mydogmylife · 19/12/2020 19:57

@Oysterbabe

We're in a T2 area and will go to inlaws Christmas day and leave boxing day. However a family from a T4 area are going to be there too. They packed up and fled to the inlaws this afternoon and will stay there until boxing day. I'm not delighted about meeting them and really disagree with what they've done but will just go along with it and keep the peace. On boxing day they are travelling up north to see the other set of parents too Hmm I think there will be a lot of people who ignore it and the new strain will spread across the country too.
Surely tier 4 should not be there? I wouldn't go, and make it fairly clear that they are the reason. Selfish bastards, then travelling up north , do they really think the rules are only for other people?

@YouokHun

My Dad is dying. This will be his last Christmas. We live in the same village and we are in Tier 4. I can’t put off this Christmas so that I can spend time with him next Christmas because there is no next Christmas. I can’t leave my mother and him alone and contemplating this.

What would you do?

In your case, I would see my dad. Just be careful, especially because of your mum.

No, one Christmas isn’t so bad. But on top of months of not being able to see family and friends in any kind of meaningful way, then it is shit. And seriously disappointing.
Disfordarkchocolate · 19/12/2020 19:58

We cancelled plans for my Son, DIL and Granddaughter to come to us weeks ago. I was so looking forward to seeing them. They've just gone into tier 4 so I'm glad we cancelled early.

When I see pictures of busy shops etc I just don't know how people can do it. I have lost my Mam and an Aunt, I nearly lost my Dad too. That is heartbreaking, not one Christmas on your own.

AKAanothername · 19/12/2020 19:59

We've had to cancel our plans. Had booked a holiday cottage for us and two other couples back in January. Rule of six came in, all ok. Christmas Bubble for five days, reduced time but still ok. Tier 4, three days before we're supposed to go away... fucked! Really looking forward to doing the supermarket shop for our Christmas lunch for two.

WanderingMilly · 19/12/2020 19:59

I shall be doing exactly what I planned to do, with whom, and on the same days....and I shall be travelling at times too.
No, I'm not in Tier 4 (yet! who knows...!) but I'd be saying the same even if I were....
I'm seeing one person on Christmas Day, other family members outdoors on different days, all masked and gloved, no hugging, no indoors.

Mydogmylife · 19/12/2020 19:59

Also in Scotland - we pretty much are going into lockdown from boxing day aren't we? Our tier 4 country wide for 3 weeks, tier 3 still pretty strict only in the islands .
cavaliercleo · 19/12/2020 19:59

Cancelled plans to see parents who live in Tier 4. Didn't consider doing anything else. You might not agree with the government but it's up to us all to stop the spread of the virus by being sensible.
