Tier 4 - can I form a support bubble and go stay with my parents?

I live in London with my DH and our 10 week old baby. Can we go and stay with my parents (who live in a tier 2 area) over Christmas by forming a support bubble and if so, how long could we stay with them for? Sorry if this is a stupid question - my head is all over the place and I’m just so confused. Can anyone help?

Those with a baby under the age of 1 can create a support bubble with one other household. As far as I know support bubbles haven’t been cancelled so if your parents are your support bubble surely this is ok?

Monstermissy36 · 19/12/2020 18:44

Just to add our household aren't seeing anyone else at all for the rest of Christmas...

notangelinajolie · 19/12/2020 18:46

Oh yes please do. I am sure all Level 2 folk are welcoming level 4's with open arms right now. Not. Seriously OP, think about what you just asked.

And also, support bubbles are for one adult households - married couples who live together do not count.

TheWeightOfWords · 19/12/2020 18:47

No.

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/12/2020 18:47

@Monstermissy36

My son rushed to pack and jump on a train so he can be home in our tier 2 area before midnight... very stressful couple of hours 🙈
Let's all hope he's not bringing the very highly contagious new strain with him. Into an area that doesn't have it.
C8H10N4O2 · 19/12/2020 18:49

And also, support bubbles are for one adult households

They are not only for single adults - go read the gov.uk page on the subject.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 19/12/2020 18:52

Go OP.

Monstermissy36 · 19/12/2020 18:53

Well quite.. let's hope he doesn't but I'd imagine that counts for every other young person coming home from uni...

I'm purposely not seeing anyone else including my parents to reduce the risk. He won't be alone over Christmas.

Didkdt · 19/12/2020 18:55

It’s probably been said by now but a support bubble can be formed in a household with a child under 1 regardless of how many adults are in it

vinoelle · 19/12/2020 18:56

YOU ARE ALLOWED TO TRAVEL OUT OF A TIER 4 AREA TO STAY WITH A SUPPORT BUBBLE

Tier 4 - can I form a support bubble and go stay with my parents?
MrsTerryPratchett · 19/12/2020 18:57

Well quite.. let's hope he doesn't but I'd imagine that counts for every other young person coming home from uni...

And this is the issue. Because some do, we all should. It's utterly stupid logic.

linerforlife · 19/12/2020 18:58

You can 100% do this as you have a child under one. You will then be one household, and travel to them is allowed.

Nettleskeins · 19/12/2020 18:59

Well said, Vinoelle.

vinoelle · 19/12/2020 19:00

@yellowtail1 the gov website has been updated for tier 4 - see my post above. Please go, don’t feel guilty, it’s allowed, for as long or as often as you like. There is no limit on support bubble contact xx

MamaV2020 · 19/12/2020 19:01

I agree with you OP - they updated the guidance for support bubbles to include households with a child under one. On the gov website it doesn't say anything about only being a one adult household for that new addition. Just says you can form a support bubble if your household includes a child under one.

HesterShaw1 · 19/12/2020 19:13

@wizzbangfizz

No you are not allowed to travel outside of tier 4.
Incorrect.
QueenoftheAir · 19/12/2020 19:17

your household includes a child who is under the age of one or was under that age on 2 December 2020

This means if you're a SINGLE PERSON household ... that's been pretty clear for weeks. If you have a spouse/live-in partner, you don't need a support bubble. Support bubbles are for single person households.

Please don't make it harder for those of us who really need the support, because we are single person households.

AuntieMarys · 19/12/2020 19:18

We were having dh's dd and family round Xmas Eve for lunch. We are on our own Xmas Day. So now can't see them.

missbipolar · 19/12/2020 19:20

At least leave your DH at home so you can pretend your actually doing it for support

Mummaest2006 · 19/12/2020 19:20

It’s going to spread anyway ! As people will be travelling into different tiers for work to keep the economy going. 1 in 3 people with the virus show no symptoms. Doesn’t take a genius to work out it’s going to spread into all areas, not just because a new mum who no doubt has social distanced the whole time anyway to keep baby safe has visited her parents at Christmas..

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/12/2020 19:22

It’s going to spread anyway !

I cut myself chopping fruit this morning. May as well chop my arm off.

The OP is exempt so that's fine but this attitude is fucking stupid.

Benjispruce2 · 19/12/2020 19:24

Yes as your child is under 2 as per gov guidelines. I read this and was surprised as I wasn’t aware.

vinoelle · 19/12/2020 19:25

@QueenoftheAir that’s incorrect. If you have a child under 1 you are entitled to a support bubble regardless of number of adults

Tier 4 - can I form a support bubble and go stay with my parents?
Benjispruce2 · 19/12/2020 19:27

Sorry under 1.

Hardbackwriter · 19/12/2020 19:28

No, it doesn't. Being a single person and having a child under 1 are two separate reasons you might have a support bubble, the latter of them recently introduced. Don't just make rules up if you can't be bothered to check the government ones.
