They're panicking now.

@EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire I'm
Sorry to hear that your mental health has become so low. If you're able to you do need to consider if seeing them briefly once would save your mental Heath, especially knowing the risks you'd all be taking.

If yes then you should go ahead.

Anyone breaking the rules without this type of special circumstance I have no respect for, but for those genuinely on the edge who know for sure that this contact will make a significant difference I think that is different.

Thank you Flowers.

I should add that my parents are young and have no health issues. None of us will be going anywhere or mixing with anyone after Christmas. So all low risk.

People dying from covid are not the only ones that matter.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 19/12/2020 17:08

'I’m breaking the rules and will see my family regardless as planned. No way am I not seeing my family, they can fuck off the lot of them.'

'They can fuck off', what the people telling you how to protect your loved ones?

GetOffYourHighHorse · 19/12/2020 17:11

'Well good for you🙄 Remember not to complain if any of you or yours become ill and there are no available hospital beds'

Its incredible isn't it. If you've got mental health problems please ring your gp and get treatment. Otherwise if in tier 4 please just stay put.

midscram · 19/12/2020 17:11

@GetOffYourHighHorse There is nuance though. My mum lives around the corner, if we meet on the 25th we will have completed 14 days of self isolation so the risk is pretty low.

midscram · 19/12/2020 17:13

Tbh my mum will probably just turn up at my door with food!

Yeah. Ringing the GP will just magically make all suicide thoughts go away. Everyone knows that.

'Thats simply not true. The whole Kent ICS system is overwhelmed at the moment. Others are very close behind.'

I didn't say there weren't problems, the SE is now under pressure as the NW and NE has been for weeks. It is thankfully easing off in some areas whilst sadly increasing in others.

My point was lockdowns 'work ' in so much as they take the pressure of a little bit. I presume the SE will do as other areas have done and have 'pop up' ICUs in recovery rooms, HDUs etc? I'm sure they are taking advice from other areas who have experienced a surge. We clearly can't stay in lockdowns for ever. Let's hope now many parts of the South and SE are also in tier 3 they'll see a let up.

They have every available space used and all staff deployed but are still beyond capacity. They have nowhere to put additional beds as they are already beyond surge capacity. They are trying to find beds in Southampton and Oxford, but its really hard as they can't cope much longer. London can no longer offer support. There are no clinicians for ambulance transfer of critical care patients.

It is more than 'problems' it is full blown crisis, for Kent in particular. They need to minimise any further growth in demand of Covid and non Covid critical care patients. They have tried desperately to find every available bed and staff to care for the patients. There is no more and the expected numbers are not due to peak until 4th January .

I think if you asked Chris Whitty whether or not a suicidal person should visit their parents, he’d say yes. They’ve been quite clear that everything is a balance. EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire wishing you well.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 19/12/2020 17:21

'Ringing the GP will just magically make all suicide thoughts go away. Everyone knows that.'

If you are really suicidal you need to contact someone urgently. The Samaritans?

Or, if you are exaggerating and are just like everyone pissed off and miserable about the situation try to think that by not seeing family you are protecting them.

JassyRadlett · 19/12/2020 17:23

I’m breaking the rules and will see my family regardless as planned. No way am I not seeing my family, they can fuck off the lot of them.

Everyone who does this and keeps the infection rate high makes it even longer for those of us who want to see our families just as much but don’t have the option either because we’re protecting very vulnerable people or because they live somewhere we can’t get to until this fucking nightmare is over.

Let alone the people who won’t get hospital treatment, the businesses that will go bust, the people who will lose their jobs.

So by making your own life a little better, you’re making others’ lives a little bit shitter. Well done, Merry Christmas.

I have tried the samaritans before. They are useless.

I have a long history of mental health problems, self harm and have attempted suicide in the past. Visiting my parents might be the thing that saves me.

DoreensEatingHerSoreen · 19/12/2020 17:32

I'm a single parent in tier 2, I have an existing support bubble with my parents who are also tier 2, but we have to travel through tier 4 to get there, is that ok if we travel by car and don't stop?

MoltenLasagne · 19/12/2020 17:33

I think its really bad taste to question someone who says they're suicidal. Exemptions have been put in place for people with mental health issues precisely because calling your GP or Samaritans is not enough for many.

I really hope we can still have my Gran for Christmas (we've been self isolating in prep in a still tier 3 area) but honestly, with how the care home have been I'd be surprised.

IndecentFeminist · 19/12/2020 17:34

@GetOffYourHighHorse my mother nearly topped herself over the summer due to the shitshow that is our local (tier 1) NHS mental health support service. Gathered her pills and was then put on a psych ward for 6 wks.

So, for all your sanctimonious BS about making a phone call to cure suicidal thoughts, the support isn't there. Covid isn't the only thing killing people.

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 19/12/2020 17:35

@DoreensEatingHerSoreen... I’m sure that’d be ok. Unless they put police on the roads as they did in March, in our sleepy Cheshire town.

Yes same as before you can travel through higher restriction areas but don't stop
BonnieDundee · 19/12/2020 17:37

Yeah. Ringing the GP will just magically make all suicide thoughts go away. Everyone knows that

Assuming you can even get a GP appointment and mental health services have any capacity

Rosesaresweet · 19/12/2020 17:39

That's quite a selfish selfish view to take, but sure, go ahead if you feel that's worth it.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 19/12/2020 17:40

'So, for all your sanctimonious BS about making a phone call to cure suicidal thoughts, the support isn't there. Covid isn't the only thing killing people.'

Look, can we try to #BeKind please. It isn't 'sanctimonious BS' to suggest the Samaritans, they are an excellent organisation.

Covid isn't the only thing killing people true. It is however the only thing that is spreading rapidly and killing people in the thousands while hospitalising thousands more.

Of course there are mh exemptions. For the majority though not mixing households to protect your family is what they need to do.

IndecentFeminist · 19/12/2020 17:40

Have you read any further @Rosesaresweetor did you get too overwhelmed with indignation?
