How much school have your kids missed due to COVID this term?

Either being ill, schools having to shut or isolating as a contact?

I think we've been quite lucky. Both kids missed 2 days before half term as I was waiting for a test result (negative luckily), DD (in Y8) recently had a contact and was off for a bit but luckily the contact happened just before two days of planned school closure (nothing to do with COVID) so she only missed 7 days of school.

I have friends whose kids have been in and out loads and missed more school than they've had.

DD's secondary is small and split over two sites, so it was doing OK, but things really ramped up suddenly after half term and they had to move around curriculum because of teachers being off.

DS's primary seems to have not been affected much - a few kids being off waiting for test results (all negative).

I never believed in Sept that schools would make it to half term let alone Christmas without all shutting. I have kept back some days of holiday I can carry over as I fully expect some kind of shutdown or extended holiday Jan/Feb.

My younger two (primary) have missed around 4 weeks due to SI and bubbles bursting. My eldest ds (secondary) hasn't been back since half term. His school has had numerous cases, bubbles bursting and a lack of staff due to Covid. We pulled him out as we are both CV. I'm not sure if they will be going back in January yet.

Myshinynewname · 17/12/2020 10:39

We're tier 3
Y3 - 6 days over 3 separate incidents
Y5 - 7 days over 3 separate incidents
Y8 - 18 days over 4 separate incidents
Different schools/bubbles so most of these have been at different times. It's been a hard term to be a working mum.

Ifartglitterybaubles · 17/12/2020 10:40

Also we pulled the youngest two out last Friday so we wouldn't have to SI over Christmas and yesterday, we received an e-mail to say someone in his class tested positive. So thats another 10 days isolating...

m0therofdragons · 17/12/2020 10:47

3 days I think. Although dd1 would have missed those anyway as she was unwell just not covid.

m0therofdragons · 17/12/2020 10:56

Oh and one day is today as we pulled them out a day early.

3littlewords · 17/12/2020 10:59

Ds1 -Y9 none
Ds2 -Y6 5 days (only bubble to burst in the school the whole term)
Day- Y1 none

3 weeks. DS is year 9. He has had one period of isolation for 2 weeks due to a teacher testing positive and 1 week where the whole year had to stay at home because there were not enough teachers in to cover all the classes.

nevernotstruggling · 17/12/2020 11:12

None - year 3 and 6 in the same school. Plymouth.

Ffsnosexallowed · 17/12/2020 11:12

None. But one of dd's friends has just started his third round of isolation since term starter

DialsMavis · 17/12/2020 11:15

None for either officially, but both (year 13 and 5) have had a day off for a cold that they usually would have been sent in with, just so I could see if it developed into anything that seems even a bit covidy

BlackeyedSusan · 17/12/2020 11:17

29.5 school days. This is almost six weeks of school, half a term missing.

LadyCatStark · 17/12/2020 11:21

Sockmonster23 · 17/12/2020 11:28

Son had fever the other day and sore throat and was very tired he is pre school unlike him, he is fine now but decided to test as I’ve got my other son coming for holidays and he sees his great nan so wanted to be sure safely, so it’s the first day today and tomorrow for us. It’s just so close to Xmas and we are spending it with my mum.

Anyone know how long tests take to come back?

UncomfortableSilence · 17/12/2020 11:33

DD1 Y11-4 weeks as a close contact.
DD2 Y6-None

We're in London, one of the worst hit boroughs and her school has really been hit hard since the October half term.

BSJohnson · 17/12/2020 11:48

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 17/12/2020 13:22

BunsyGirl · 17/12/2020 13:29

One day for each child. Years 3 and 6.

Notahotelorabandb · 17/12/2020 13:32

None

OddestSock · 17/12/2020 13:45

2 days when we all isolated as we waited for a test result which was negative. Our school had one bubble close for 2 weeks at the end of November but didn't affect my children.
